Catch is...will they listen this time? How many foreigners with correct credentials have advised before only to be ignored afterwards.

Makes perfect sense.
Step 1 - buy better machinery with the strong Baht.
Step 2 - man said machinery with low skilled/wage workers...oh damn...they all left to go back to their countries after the immigration crack down.
Step 2.1 - man said machinery with Thai workers at a higher wage
Step 3 - try to sell/export your more expensive goods (due to expensive machinery and higher wages) at a better price then your competitors who have better deals with their own govt.
Makes perfect sense...right?

Yes, I was referring to 2555, Thai year.
BUT, funny thing is that my comment about the Canadian dollar being at par with the US dollar could work for 1955 as well since the exchange rate AT THAT TIME was 0.9860 $US/$CDN.

The moment this writer finally took his rose tinted glasses off and saw the world as is. Welcome to Thailand.

Old photo. You can see the date as 18 JUN 55. Good year since the Canadian Dollars was at par with the US. I miss those days

an issue city planners blamed on street vendors.
Unless said street vendor is selling sledgehammers and heavy equipment, I don't see how a soup vendor cart could manage to break a sidewalk.
Maybe if the sidewalk was poorly built in the first place, then yes. But that would put the blame on the construction instead of the street vendors.

Rescue workers arrived to find local residents stealing beers from crash site.
Why does this not surprise me...

Street racing by foreigners....did the BIB check their work permits? Pretty sure that it's a Thai only thing to do.

Good idea. Then he can take the money and pay the police to do their jobs... or maybe not. Never mind.

...is it a memorial or a bloody shopping centre
Is bloody useless is what it is. If you're going to build a tower, might as well make it one of the tallest and be in the top 10.
What I don't get is how they are going to accomplish this in a swampy region.

Anybody else notice that the police (both) are not wearing their seat-belts?

Very well written report. Worth the time to read. Unfortunate that no Thai in a position of power will ever read it.
-
Why bother? Only foreigners know how to use them. And the expats know better then to stop since they will just get rear ended by the locals who are clueless as to why they have to stop.
Case in point, they even had to use the police to divert the traffic...

Just waiting for this:
In other news...With easy access to 'How to' video for making forgeries, breaking into ATM machines, circumventing password protections, opening hotel room safes and what not, Thailand is now considering blocking YouTube due to it's rising popularity with would be criminals.
Imagine the revolt - same as saying that they want to block Facebook.

The sister should of stepped forward with her proof that Jidarat Promkhun could not be involved, the same day the news broke out (or before then) instead of now. Presenting this proof now, so long after the events took place, just smells fishy.
On the other hand, maybe she did and reporters are only telling us about it now. In which case the news is late in reporting relevant information...

And then they wonder why there are so many rape cases (reported and un-reported) in this country.
Oh no your honor, it was not rape but 'blum' since she was dressed so provocatively and it woke my inner desire. -said the rapist.

Isn't that what they call 'Medical Tourism' ??? If you invite people to come to your country for medical purposes, you can't really blame them afterwards for filling up your hospitals...

Is it me or does it look like the red line will go through the red light district (walking street)?

This reminds me of the 70's back home in Canada when stories would pop up about female mechanics working with in a male dominated field. 40 years later and the same type of stories appear in Thailand. They sure have a lot of catching up to do.

And another cop-killer walks away freely. Amazing Thailand is correct.
-
Happy to see that there are some smart Thai people who recognize the problem and are willing to speak out about it. Unfortunately, it will fall on deaf ears as nothing will change for the foreseeable future.
-
If people want to play the blame game. How about this? Option #3 - Blame the city for not providing enough areas where pedestrians can cross in safety.

Something missing ?
may be the missing thing is the brain or good manners of the guy who bumped her
Or maybe she was being a nuisance to the rest of the passengers and this was the only excuse they came up with to get her out...
We don't know the full story.

Maybe the next contractor will change "Pattaya Tai" to "South Pattaya"...
