  1. For this 2450, is it catch and release, or do you get to bbq it later ( if it's an edible fish)?

It is catch and release but there are a couple of species that you can take home at a price per kg!! Pacu is one and very nice to eat, not sure what else you can catch and take home but whatever it is it will cost you extra, bloody expensive!!

  2. As previously mentioned Cha Am fishing park would be recommended but also Gillhams down at Krabi is worth looking at. It is not cheap but it is superb venue with World class Fishing and is not a tourist rip off. Type the venue into You Tube for some examples . The average size of the Siamese carp at this venue is now 50 lbs + with several going over 100 lbs apart from the exotics like Arapaima etc . A more affordable venue than BSR would be Wan Chai( no, not Hong Kong ) fishing park near Bangkok where the rate is around 100 baht a day although this venue is primarily Mekongs. The facilities are basic however.

Gillhams is 5000bht per day certainly not cheap but a wonderful place!! Cha Am 200bht per day, BSR 400 bht per day. Both Cha Am and BSR hold Monsters!!

  3. Thanks yes i have contacted this place, looks good , its really expensive though

It's worth making the trip to Cha Am or BSR(Bangkok) plenty of big fish, great place's with good food and most importantly cheap fishing, yes it cost's to get there but it is well worth it, I am off to Cha Am soon, the fishing is awesome!!

  4. I'd like to ask without starting a new thread as it's related "why would you want to stay in Phuket", i've lived here 10 years and my opinion has never changed, i've always had a love/ hate relationship with the place, siding on the latter more, familiarity breads contempt, any destination or places that you know are better then phuket and would recommend to relocate to worldwide

Firstly, I probably would go mad if I had to stay here full time. Go away for a week or more and Phuket feels great again.

Palawan in the Philippines is breath-takingly beautiful, cheap and the locals are very hospitable. Nothing like Luzon.

I am here full time and most definitely mad so all is good lol

  5. I doubt there are any fish in the Tin mine lakes, the local Thai's would have emptied them long ago, the only lakes that contain fish are the ones with security guards.

  6. In defence of Phuket Fish park I went to visit the other day and in the 15 odd mins I was there saw 2 redtail, one pacu and a nice sized carp caught by the only angler there.

    Prices are ridiculous though.

Kind of proves my point that no skill is needed.

If patience and skill are not your thing and it's sheer volume of fish caught that matters, then it sounds just the ticket.

Yes skill is needed to land the huge fish contained within these lakes, landing a 50 kg fish is not easy, if you are inexperienced you will lose the fish, you are able to fish these lakes and still use your skill!!!

  7. Where would you suggest people fish, why should it matter if as you say the fish throw themselves at the hook, it's a sport,it's fun but not at tourist prices!! Only the very dedicated would want to sit on a bank all day not catching a thing, the majority want a day of arm aching action at a reasonable price, reasonable price is not available on Phuket!!

The OP said carp fishing where you might get a single bite all day. Where skill and presentation of the bait is all.

You want "arm aching action" with no skill involved, go sea fishing.

Where is the good arm aching sea fishing around Phuket? the majority of people will not want to go sea fishing!! so for the people who would like to go fresh water fishing where do you suggest? as for the op there is good Carp fishing(not here on Phuket, you can catch many other species while you are waiting for the elusive Cahoo, no Need to sit all day and maybe catch nothing!!

  8. What's the point fishing in a fishing park? No skill, stealth, or cunning needed.

The main fish stocked are cat-fish and snake-head which figuratively throw themselves on the hook compared to Carp, Tench and Bream.

  9. I used to pay 600bht for the day and caught some great fish, far to many Russians and far to many Pacu!!!! it has Been over a year since I have been there so things may have changed, well yes the price has gone through the roof!!

  10. There is only 1 place to fish on Phuket and that is far to expensive, better to arrange a trip North where the fishing is fantastic and a fraction of the cost of Phuket fishing park, Phuket is now geared up for tourists!! as far as I know you can get a discounted price if you live here, not sure how much that is though.

  11. The best reason to leave Phuket and the one that will eventually drive me away is traffic. It's horrible now and only going to get much much worse. Take, for example, the hundreds of new houses going up in the area around BIS. That will add a few hundred more cars on an already nasty part of the main highway.

For some reason, the authorities think that the best way to solve any traffic congestion problem is to install yet another light! Nothing could be worse in many cases.

Phang Nga Town is my most likely next place of residence.

Yep traffic is a nightmare and one very good reason to leave Phuket, not at that stage yet but it is always on my mind. Plenty of places to go if it does get to much!!

  12. Personally, I like Belgian beer. St Patrick Day will never be the same again though.

So there is only one Irish bar in Patong? Or is it a particular person that will be missed?

Particular person and his family. Also the fact that I could get there in about 2 mins on the bike.

Can understand that, where you thinking of going now then?

  13. I brought a Infiniti R100 rower. It's the same machine as you would find in Amazon as R100. I got it here for about 30K. It's still cheaper than purchasing it from the states.

You should be able to find it in many sports store or try these stores call Marathon.

Cheers mate for the information, I will try to find.

  14. Yeah it is dire down there. When I was living in Phuket I joined for a month for 2000 baht but that was with the previous owner. When I heard the new prices my cofee went all over the screen. coffee1.gif

Not fished there in a long time so can not comment on the fishing now, when I did go which was often it was 600bht for the day, nothing very big in there but that might have changed now, everything here is so expensive, golf here has crazy prices!! Looking forward to my Cha Am trip soon.

  15. Yes the 2,300 included a guide for the day, transport and all fishing gear. This was for their"closed" day on a monday where you are also charged another 150 baht per head for the priviledge of being allowed to bring your own food and drinks along.

Unfortunately Phuket is mostly tourist orientated so you would expect to pay a high price for the fishing and anything else, golf is the same, I prefer to make the trip North where the fishing is far superior and far cheaper!!j

  16. Crazy prices in Phuket, no way would I pay that, the park is geared up for tourists, the fishing in the North is far far better and a lot cheaper, it's worth the trip!!

Did the price of 2300bht include a fishing guide?

I believe you can get a reduced fee if you are an ex-pat( not sure about this though.

  17. Fished there yesterday and going again today.... Landed a 20lb plus Catla lost a Siamese, which where not as active as usual but where biting. Had customers on Arapiama Pond last week best fish of the day 120lb.

Cheers mate, sounds good, love it there, always had great fishing and fish, looking forward to fishing there again so much, wish I lived nearer, Phuket is a bit of a trek!

The shame is Phuket could so easily have a fishing park like it. There's so many lakes there and plenty of people wanting good fishing. Transport would be an issue of course. Tuk tuk more like <deleted>, <deleted>!

If there was such a lake here in Phuket it would be very very expensive, everything here is geared up to tourist rates, it is worth the trip to Cha Am just to get away from the tourists and tourist prices.

  18. You are right there, and the reason being is that posters can not seem to keep it civil, every thread attracts posts that are either insulting or inflammatory, They spoil it for the decent posters.

Quite agree, though I do get the impression a number of posters are deliberately inflammatory in order to lure the usual suspects into an online argument (not a deliberately inflammatory comment BTW!)

    That's the fun.

I quite enjoy the banter, no matter how contentious some of the posters are.

Just gets a little disturbing when some can't differentiate between real life and online. Some just need thicker skin and learn to roll with the punches because either way, the moderators will clean up the mess if it goes overboard.

I agree banter is great, you can also have a laugh without being rude/insulting towards the thread starter, words either spoken or written can sometimes hurt people, yes having a thick skin is great but not everyone is made the same way, nothing bothers me I know the things people say is not meant in a bad way because they are typing to an unknown person. To someone else it will cause a bad reaction, so let's keep it fun!!

  19. Doesn't help that a huge number of posts get deleted or locked. Sometimes I go to add something to a topic and often find it's already been closed.....makes the place pretty boring as often they are the best topics
