Personally I'd make the Thai embassy in Nigeria giving this visas ask each individual to prove their income and how they got it prior to giving a visa. The entire nation is more trouble world wide than the effort of dealing with them

Only 'stupid retirees' are people that cut all ties with their homeland and sell their house to live in another country that des not give the citizenship easy. I would never, ever sell my UK house to live here - it provides an income and most importantly an escape route that does not include me living in a bed and breakfast or a cardboard box ! Plus most of the people struggling in the west are mostly people that have not planned for their retirement , smoked and drunk and wasted their money in life - what on earth makes you think these same people would adjust their lifestyle to living in Thailand in later life ?

Considering some US cities you do not get arrested for less than $1,000 (UK I think £200) I'd say chuck ALL thieves in the clink for a week for every $100/£80 they steal - if they know that the penalty is basically nothing , they'll carry on doing it all day !
