  1. i saw this and thought i would add my 2 bahts worth about teamtalk and then i read the opening post!! Hopefully its only for the duration of the world cup but thats my first website of the day to catch up on the footy news..

It truly is bordering on the ridiculous!

  2. I went with hamptons (www.hamptons.co.th). They helped me secure a good unit after lots of comings and goings. Professional and they have competent English speaking staff too which is a great help!

Check them out and if they are not to your taste then you can look online for other agents...

  3. As a born eczema sufferer (and I am 100% asian) i have found it has actually improved since i have been in Thailand. It never completely goes for me but there are times where it doesnt bother me at all.

As bambina correctly points out there are different types of eczema. I am sure you are aware of this already though.

Mine was mainly from heat sweating and stress. Good advice from Bambina in the post above. Prickly heat powder worked wonders for me. Steriod cream too but use this sparingly and i only use this in extreme cases.

When out and about having a small cloth with you might be a good idea since when it got hot and sweaty and that brought on the itchiness a few ice cubes wrapped up in this cloth left on the itchy area did the business.

Also i found that going into the sea helped it out too.

  4. I go through periods of reading and other times of not. Jut been through one of those periods and in that i read:

    Falling Down - Nick Hornby

Touching the Void - Joe Simpson

The Wasp Factory - Iain Banks

    Ecstasy - Irvine Welsh

Down and out in Paris and London - George Orwell

Finding George Orwell in a Burmese Tea Shop - Emma Larkin

I tough call to say which was the most enjoyable read, but its between Touching the Void and Down and out in Paris and London.

Really getting into George Orwell at the moment and i have just started reading Keep the Aspidistra flying and i have Homage to Catalonia to read after that. A brilliant writing style...

  5. Patpong seems to have quite a bad rep here among most of the posters. Admittedly it does attract some rather unsavoury types but there are a couple of decent places around there. I dont mind popping in there once in a while to have a nose around and have a quick drink. Got my regular DVD guy (regular movies only!) there too...

Lucifers is always good for a bit of a dance although the cheesy trance music can get a bit much sometimes! and i have heard that a coupld of new places have opened up now too and they stay open past the 1am/2am curfew.

  6. I would like to believe that the Govt wouldn't stoop this low, but with the tantrums Mr T throws anything is possible.

It reminds me of a case in the UK a few years ago, a farmer was upset about something and used his muck spreader to redecorate the outside of a Govt building or Police station or something similar!  Anyone remember it?

yeah i remember that. it was on the news. I think it was a bank the farmer was pissed off with.May have been Natwest but not sure...

  7. People should not have conversations whilst the film is on...its just plain rude! I have had some old woman sitting behind me put her stinking feet up onto my arm rest. I had to glare hard at her for several seconds before she removed the offending objects. She was obviously not Thai, Chinese or HK i think and god only knows what a Thai person would have done or thought.

I have also had a family with her kid watching a movie and throughout the film the did was running up and down the horizontal seat isles knocking into all the seats in front including mine. She did nothing to stop him so in the end i didnt want to make myself out to be the villan and just moved rows...

There is a certian etiquette to be observed in cinemas yet some people are completely oblivious to it.

  8. I need to do the exercise here cuz of the food and as gazza says the pavements are not so easy to walk on....high kerbs or trees and phone boxes blocking the way.

I still walk around Bkk a bit though. I often walk from my apartment in soi 36 to Thong lor...market place or J Avenue and back again...i do get strange looks from my Thai friends when i tell them i would rather walk back.
