What is making me laugh (and cry) here is that there are numerous people banging on about the link between these parties and the sad deaths of the 2 English 20 somethings last month. If I remember rightly those 2 had been in a BAR and they had been focused on alcohol (check all the photos). There was a party on a beach with a guitar!
In short people using the Koh Tao incident as an excuse to ban these parties are a little like using an incident of drunk driving as a reason to lower the speed limit....just doesn't make any sense.
...
Great post.
I wonder how many of those shouting "close the parties down" have actually been?
If anyone has had a bad experience at a party, please recount it here.
If your peace and quiet has been disturbed, let us know which was there first - the party, or you?
And perhaps you could also explain why you were expecting peace and quiet on an island famous for partying.
And when did having a good time become something only you were allowed to do when you were young?
Well, actually. KPG was not known at all for parties when I first settled here.
In fact, Koh Phangan was not even on the map of Thailand at that time and
no one lived permanently on Koh Tao.
When I was a lot younger, people (just like some of the idiots here on TV) used
to tell me, if I don't like something, why don't I move. I moved. I travelled the
world and finally ended up on this completely unspoiled island with just over
250 inhabitants on 168 sqKM. Absolute paradise.
Then, a few years later, those same idiots followed, still using the same super
idiotic comment. If you don't like it, move. So again, I moved twice on the
island because I had party venues starting close to my home. Means music
till late in the morning, people throwing trash or pissing in my garden, people
complete disregard for other peoples privacy and property.
Now after 26 years, finally someone has an idea. A petty stupid idea. Ban
all the parties on the island apart from the Full Moon Party.
Apart from the full moon party which goes completely uncontrolled, without
organised security, at least the smaller parties, eg. Half Moon Party, Shiva
Moon Party, Sramanora Party, Jungle Experience or the many "Micro"
Parties like the Pirate Bar Party or the Party in Haad Yuan have to provide
their own security.
Most of the smaller parties are held on private land, not on the beach or
public land. So according to the article, there would be just a handful of
venues affected.
So reading this news, it doesn't looks to me as if the government would
ban too many parties and there is an option, get approval, BUY a licence ;-)

How could you miss the chocolates when Tueschers are available in Thailand?
Just such a shame it's too hot for a chocoholic in Thailand to fully enjoy chocolate
Kirsch Staengely on line but they too, melt by the time they arrive
You are kidding right?
Always fresh, our chocolates are prepared each week and flown immediately to our store in Bangkok. In this way, we continue to bring you these marvelous chocolates acclaimed as the world’s finest by gourmets and critics alike.
Aside from the world’s finest chocolates, our unique cocoa lounge will also offer pastries and special wines from the different regions of Switzerland.
Sadly, Bangkok is not all of Thailand and by the time I got my chocolate, it was melted.
But please, you can send me weekly samples and I'll let you know which ones didn't melt

First of all- [for all the Bits and Americans] - Switzerland is not Sweden.
It's cold but not that cold. The climate sucks in both places but Swedenis the place with the pretty girls, Switzerland the place with the pretty cows.
I left the mountains in my teens and the only thing I ever missed onoccasions, was a few Swiss Francs.

No , they shouldnt get away with it.
But people expect to be told at checkin. They then have a choice of discarding a few things or paying extra. When they are on the plane, their choice is removed, and they are forced to pay. I'm sure the airline is aware of this and that's why they do it. That guy should sue their a---
.
Suing?
Are the signs not big enough?
Maybe you should go to SpecSavers before you fly next time.
Perhaps you should read the AirAsia website...
"
What are the rules for hand carried baggage on board? You are allowed one piece of cabin baggage of up to 7kg and/or 1 laptop bag or 1 handbag onboard, each of which should not exceed the size dimensions. Our overhead compartments in the aircraft cabin are built to hold a certain size and weight of baggage. Anything exceeding these dimensions put our guests at risk of injury from falling objects should there be turbulence mid-air.Size Dimensions: Cabin baggage should not exceed dimensions of 56cm X 36cm X 23cm.
Weight: Cabin baggage must not weigh more than 7kg
Such baggage should also fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment in the cabin. The approved cabin baggage must be tagged with a cabin bag tag.
You are also allowed to bring along your musical instrument onboard instead of a laptop or handbag, provided it does not exceed the approved weight and size.
If your musical instrument is larger than the stated dimensions we would advise you to buy another seat to safeguard against potential damage in the cargo hold.
"
Very misleading information indeed! The green text does that relate to each piece or in total?
Nothing confusing about that <and english is not even my native language>
It says clearly:
ONE

"Cabin Baggage up to or Cabin Baggage not exceeding"
could mean?

"I am committed to do good things and create understanding with people and am determined to solve problems," he said."
His word is is as good as anyone on this forum.
Ohh, I thought PM Prauyth said:
"The NCPO is not god who can solve all the problems. Members of
the National Legislative Council must help tackle those problems.
Don’t dump them on me.”

Pretty hard to be a above ground anti government movement as it's illegal under this appointed PM
Prayuth was elected as the 295h PM of Thailand; NOT appointed.

Well, your quote is old news of the 21st of August
and as usual in Thai affairs, needed clarification.
One month later, as expected, came the clarification
"Please understand me. I wasn't elected. I know myself well," Prayuth said </quote>

Another Thai man with no self-control of his actions where is his mother to teach him some manners and respect to other people eg; fellow passengers.
I'm sorry but I don't think this man was under mannered, he is upset of course, like I would be, they should check the luggage in the beginning, not in the plane, the men has no option, will miss he's flight, they delay the flight .. bad option
the men is upset and just higher he's voice volume, its not shouting, violent, and he talks polite using "krab'
Why should they check your carry on luggage?
To stupid to do it youself on the weight scale supplied next to the HUGE hand luggage sign?
How do they know the cabin luggage you show at the counter is all you take in to the plane?
Next you expect someone to clean your bottom after going to the loo in the plane?
Now I don't know how long you live in Thailand but can't be long enough, otherwise you would
know, most Thais say "Khaa" or "Khrap" more or less after every sentence. Never mind their emotions.

I said it in the other topic wait and see.. all the English were patting themselves on the chest while i said wait and see its not going to happen.
Guess i was right they were blinded by patriotism and forgot how it worked in Thailand, plus like others have said no country in the world wold let other countries do law enforcement on their turf. Observers no more. That is it.
So what did the Australian police do in the Ukraine or Bali?
What is the British Police doing in Brasil, Georgia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, ......
What is the American DEA and FBI doing in Asia or South America?
Yeah, some are just observers, some just for PR and others, do investigate.
Best example of foreign police catching culprits is probably:

I'm thinking that we are witnessing the final showdown between the military and the police in their power struggle.
Other posters have also alluded to this - Prayuth, in his new "international" role has been rudely awakened to the fact that Thailand is not the perfect, superior, isolated paradise and does have to answer to world opinion - like it or not.
He must be acutely aware that, in the eyes of the rest of the world, the disgraceful actions of the R.T.P. have caused Thailand and therefore he, as it's representative, severe embarrassment and, being that this man is far from stupid, he might just have decided to throw them to the wolves in an attempt to regain international credibility.
If I'm right, and time will tell, he will have made a very shrewd move.
He will have cemented his status as a true statesman whilst also salvaging the reputation of Thailand, ensuring that the Thai military are firmly in control of events and allowing the first real shakeup of the worthless R.T.P.
I'm only speculating, of course, but it would indeed be a fascinating scenario if it turns out to be true.........................
It would be far too much to hope for.
But what an opportunity to completely cull, and I mean completely cull the top ranks and appoint some junior police officers. The country would be no worse off with new police chiefs as it appears the majority now on top are pretty useless, corrupt and ineffective only interested in their own benefits.
There is also the need to the equivalent of the Wood's Royal commission instigated in NSW a few years back - now that really sorted out the goodies and the baddies.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Commission_into_the_New_South_Wales_Police_Service
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the opportunity to swing around Thai and World opinion
and give backcredibility to Thailand is presented on a golden plate. The timing is just right.
The world’s media attention is
once againstill on Thailand due to this appalling investigationinto the Koh Tao murders. World media has highlighted murder, corruption, drug dealing
and human rights violations. Every single issue Thailand has been condemned for in the
past, in one spot, on a couple of tinny island in the Gulf of Thailand.
Wouldn't this incident be the right moment to clarify to the world, why the takeover on the
23 of May 2014 was necessary "in order for the country to return to normality quickly, and
for society to love and be at peace again".
Isn't it just the right time to show the international communities how sincere his Excellency
is with his promises to bringing happiness back to people, eradicate corruption, battle against
inequality?
I'm convinced, if the Thai government would make an example and prosecute every single one
involved with any "criminal activities" exposed in this one brutal murder case on Koh Tao and
punish them according to Thai law, World and Thai opinion would instantly change for the better.
Would probably be that long needed warning shot who wakes up all of Thailand.
The chance to give his Excellency, PM Prayuth Can-ocha and Thailand as a Nation a new lease
of credibility within the local and global community is right here.
America might [or might not] put Thailand back up in the second tier on the next TIP report.
Economic forecasts might improve again,
Tourism will bounce back again,
For sure, Prayuth’s and Thailand’s popularity rating would increase dramatically.
Hopefully, I win the lottery and his Excellency PM Prayuth Can-ocha has finally made a step
in to the right direction and give the Thai people a chance to rebuild a “Land of Smiles”. The
majority of Thai people are good people and have suffered enough under past administrations.
It’s time to change at least some of the “Traditions” this country suffered for such a long time.
Suppose, time will tell if this is a new start for Thailand or just an other face saving promotion
campaign for Prayuth Can-ocha and the system.

I just had to throw up a website to celebrate the fantastic news http://thailandjustice.com/

Well it's a darn site better than yours...???
Definitely not
It made "Thailandchilli" throw up,
It made me crack up,
and it made you [and some others] defenders of ....... nothing

Just wonder:
1.) will there be any english speaking staff at hand at this english language "complaint" center?
2.) why is "complaint" in between quotation marks? -
If you decline to pay extra when asked ,you can be called back several times to "clarify "a point, obviously costing time and money especially concerning. marriage extension, you know the system,so there.
Yes, I agree, you have a valid point. And I well know the system here. Trouble is that it's just so easy to pay and that only encourages the corruption. If we all made a stand then the officers would have to back down. Oh ... and I dream on .....
Maybe a Mass Burning of Expats in some immigration office would do the trick?

For all tourist, if 200 baht is going to impact your beer comsumption, well 1f 7$ usd breaks the bank, stay home. Where are you from, paying sales taxes, service charge 10%, tips. Somethings need to fix here, but bitching when your on holiday for 200 baht, take it home.
Are you serious? Are you real?
You really believe, having to pay a bribe for a service is the same
as voluntarily giving a tip for exceptionally good service?
Well, at least one defender for corruption on this forum.

Inflammable.
Flammable.
You say tomato and I say tomato.
Except I think this incident was actually petrol, no?
All a bit confusing innit?
Did he try to commit british or american suicide?
Did he try to kill himself with gas or with gas?
But as it says 15KG I assume it is gas
otherwise I assume it would have said 3 gallons of gas.
Would be easier for the media if this Swiss guy would
have tried it the Swiss way with Benzin.
C'mon guys, don't you think the gas cylinder pictured on the back seat of the car gives a bit of a clue??
They are just decoy ;-)
So all us TV experts can anal-izing it.
-
Only if it was flammable gas, e.g., LPG, and I suppose we can assums that because it's most readily available, but could easily have been a non combustible gas like nitrogen or carbon dioxide. Even if it was LPG, it may not combust/explode, unless the gas/air mix is within the combustible range, but dangerous nevertheless.Luckily the security guard had the sense to extinguish his cigarette before he opener the car door - otherwise there'd be a nice big hole in the Tesco car park.
I can't imagine breathing LPG as a way to end my life. It's vile.

Who is the idiot that wrote this article? First if mother is Thai and father is biological father is Thai wouldn't child also be Thai? Not adopted father's nationality Idiot.

Beware, don't look in the mirror!!!

Slightly off topic but I have just seen that the accused parents are coming to Thailand to see them.
They are obviously poor people. I hope they are looked after and they can see their innocent boys.
Maybe it will allow the authorities to finalise the "deal"
"Innocent" boys?
How do you come to that conclusion?
Guessing someone's innocence just as others are guessing their guilt?
For me they are just suspects, not innocent, not guilty.
No different than CSI LA and their brainless followers who are spamming
international travel websites with unproven allegations,
which in turn, makes them as bad as the Thai Police.
-
What in the world are the Thai press' motives for revealing these types of stories at this stage? Do they think because a foreigner is involved that it will deflect any criminal intention from Thais? Their perpetual premature release of stories headlining foreigners is a noteworthy discrimination and attempt to taint the readership thinking. The prematurely released stories never have all the facts, there is little or no substantiated evidence, and in the case of the Koh Tao double bludgeoning murders, there is a conscious effort to prematurely accuse and deny any possible involvement by THais. This all serves to illustrate Thailand's deep rooted discriminatory attitudes and behaviors.
Premature?
There's a kid missing and police was already looking three, maybe four months for it?
Maybe even a bit more, maybe even a bit less. Suppose they were just not quite sure
how long and what they were looking for?
Now a Swedish news paper reports the case and suddenly, somebody remembers again
what they were looking for since, - well, some months.
So yes, I would expect the police to publish pictures of the MISSING CHILD or his dads
fairly early in their investigations. Or would that be too PREMATURE in your eyes?
Maybe police should just say they are looking for two *****
<names, race, nationality withhold due to data protection>
who are wanted in connection with *****
<reason withhold due to possible defamation charges>
and the Missing Child poster will be publish after the sentencing?
<picture withhold due to age of the possible victim>
