  1. Is 159k standard all over thailand?

If yes, it is a miracle after all these price add ups in honda shops.

159 k for a 300 cc maxi scooter is a cool price imo. Double of a pcx 150.

double the cc, double the price, i also think its a good price, plus also i think Honda wants to push Sym out in the cc and price range.

i still think Sym looks better and offers better value, but Honda for sure is better at resale and service

he says there will not be any price gouging on this one and it will be 159k in every shop

seems a bit strange because he usually gouges an extra 5-15k per bike smile.png

Just pay the THB 5000 deposit and find out later that Mittyon indeed tops up 10-15 K.............."Sorry, Misterrrrrr!"

  2. The funniest thing ever occurred was a case with "2 cheaper than one".

Bought a 2-pack of orange juice; the two packs of orange juice were packed in a transparent plastic carry bag @ THB 121

Passing the shelf where 2 single packs were displayed, I noticed a price of THB 56.

I called over a staff member and asked "Why?"

Of course, there was the famous: "Mai roo!", so I put back the 2-pack and took 2 single packs. The staff member stayed behind with a puzzled look on her face.

Thailand has Consumer Protection Laws, but most important: Thai also hate to loose face. As soon as you complain about something, they will do everything possible to keep their face, even if it is going to cost clientele.

  3. The Thai bum gun by far. I've seen the bidets in hotels I have been at, but tI didn't quite know how to use so I avoided. (Looked kind of creepy.)

I must also say that Thai bathroom technology is far superior to Western bathroom technology.

The Thai bum gun is yet only one example. Simple and effective. The other major superior advancement is having a drain hole in the bathroom. Like why can't anyone in the West think of that. Like a Thai bathroom, all you have to do is use the bum gun and spray down the entire bathroom and it all drains out. The entire bathroom is clean very quick and efficiently. A Western bathroom you can't just spray down with water cause there's no place for it to drain. I mean what kind of thinking is it that you already have a drain for the bathtub and shower, yet don't put in a drain to spray down the entire bathroom?

Well let's see. First, LOS would need to consider putting some d@mn cabinets and a closet with shelves in a bathroom so you could put some things away for krise sake. Next, after a shower it's really nice to stand on carpet and pad while I shave, comb my hair, get dressed, etc. Third, I can close the blankety blank shower doors and not make a mess of the place. Fourth, if you want to use a bum gun at my house, you crap in the sink, use the garbage disposal and hose to clean it down, and you don't need to make a mess all over the @#% hardwood maple floor. init? tongue.png

Well, at least 2 civilized people here.

The reason that Thais do like a wet-room (hoong naam) is that they do have the habit NOT to use water hoses, but buckets or smaller water-throw-containers, or whatever they're called. They splash all over and if you ever have seen a Thai taking a "shower" you understand their "hoong naam" habits and you understand why there is a drain............ONE drain only in an original Thai hoong naam.

Being civilized, you do have a separate shower-area, a bath-tub (or both) and that is the wet-area in a bathroom; no real need for an extra drain.

  4. You pay for a room, you stay in it. You paid for it. If you don't want to stay its because your stupid. If you're not stupid, you won't pay for a room you don't want to stay in. If you're stupid, thank you for your money.

Stupid reply. OK, the guest who cancelled has to suffer, but no reason to call him or her 'stupid'. There are obvious reasons to cancel a room, leave early or don't show. It totally depends on the hotel-policy, booking-site-policy or whatever other policy, you get a refund or not.

Of course, there's hotels and hotels........Rattanakarnamanoon Mansion with 4 rooms @THB 400/night may be reluctant to give you any refund and they make up the policy in your presence, but hotels as Marriott, Dusit and similar may allow you a refund although not guaranteed.

    Usually, a travel-insurance covers it.

  5. No FREE internet at

    - Taiwan Taoyuan Airport

    - Los Angeles LAX

    - London Heathrow (provided by Boingo with pay as you go)

    - Paris Charles de Gaule airport (only 15min free after that you pay)

anyone need to know some other airports.......

Maybe you guys need to travel a bit more to know what goes on in the world before breaking down the coun try that allows you to live in it..........

    Shame on you

Come on Dirk.....of course there are numerous airports where there is no (free) wifi, but the topic is about DMK, not LAX or CDG. And yes, it's a shame that a country that is pretending to be the #1 in technology and the #1 in attracting tourists isn't offering such a simple thing as (free) wifi at an airport where 17,000,000 people are supposed to depart from or arrive at.

is this about DMK not having free WiFi???

'Exactly..and of course you are forgetting that in Thailand the airport is a King Power shopping Mall with aircraft stands attached.

They want you in the expensive duty free not on the internet. As for Singapore it's a developed country while Thailand is still developing

if you dont like it here in the "developing country" just go home and enjoy your NOT so free WiFi there.

Dirk, reading your post, it seems that you are the one who is complaining here.

So, pack your bags and "houdoe". smile.png

  6. There are 2 alternatives:

    - use the Garmin BaseCamp software on your home pc-laptop in order to prepare a trip and transfer it to your Garmin.

    - use Google Maps to look for a destination and once you've found it, use the coordinates option on your Garmin to set the destination. The coordinates on Google maps can be found by "right-click" on your destination and then opt for "What's here". Click "What's here?" and a green arrow appears on your destination; "left-click" on the green arrow and a small screen pops up with coordinates. Choose for the correct coordinates-config (depending on your garmin-settings).

Warning: There are a lot of destinations like restaurants, hotels and many other POI's in google maps. Not all of them are 100% accurate. Use the Google street view option in order to search for the exact location or use the POI-option on your Garmin once you're near your final destination.

Another matter: Using your GPS in Bangkok may result in the message: "GPS signal lost" if you're driving under elevated highways or Skytrain-tracks. You'll get used to it, but the first few times, you'll freak out!

  8. In the past we could recognize the Scandinaviens, the Germans, the Spanish, the French by their looks.

More and more people are getting mixed and I guess, that in 2 or 3 generations there are no or less differences.

Same is happening in Thailand, where Cambodians, Laotians, Birmese and other Asian people are more and more mixed.

I am living here for almost 10 years now and I can't see a difference between a Thai, a Cambodian, a Laotian or a Birmese. Some people see the difference and otherwise they can hear the difference.

  9. You can turn left at a red light. I didnt know this till a policeman waived me through.

    Unless there is this sign.........

    DSC01689a.JPG

To the OP.........the common rule is that the one who is first a a junction will go first.

The reason that most drivers take a turn very slowly, is the simple fact, that if they get hit they are almost never at fault.

Same reason for changing lanes, taking U-turns, parking back-wards and any other special activity on the road.

  10. "another dent in the reputation of Pattaya" dent? really, I'd say the reputation of Pattaya

is pretty much totaly mangled, shattered and died long time ago...

You're right, although it's not (another) dent in Pattaya's reputation; it's more a confirmation of Pattaya's reputation.

BTW........the driver of the pick-up is ready for an extended session at one of Pattaya's shrinks.......if there are any!

  11. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (P6200 DLXP5) some time ago and after using AIS net sim for some time with absolute disappointing speeds, I decided to give True a try. The AIS speeds were 6kbps up to 2.5Mbps download.

Got a True sim card and applied for a 3G, GPRS/EDGE package with unlimited download up to 3G with a max. speed of 42Mbps.

Unfortunately, I'm only offered GRPS/EDGE with a speed of maybe 60Kbps down and 100Kbps upload.

According to the True staff, my tablet doesn't match with their package.

Is it a True problem, a Samsung problem......an Android update issue? I'm running on Android 4.0.1. (Ice Cream?).

  12. I entered Birma on a VOA a few months ago.

As SeaVisionBirma stated, you can enter on a VOA, but everything has to be taken of while outside of Birma.

I used the services of an agency http://www.myanmarvisaonline.com/

Did everything online and especially, did everything they asked for.

Went down (or up) to Birma and the exiting the plane everything was perfectly arranged........guide directed me to the VOA booth, papers were ready and waiting and after getting the visa-stamp at immigration, the guide was waiting to settle the bill of USD 75.-

Not particularly cheap, but absolute hassle-free and perfect communications through email.

BTW the guide at Yangon airport didn't leave until he was sure that I got a decent cab.
