  1. Maybe there's a market for a private militia, you know African style, for those who really need to rent jetskis here. Like a group of armed thugs bigger and badder than the ski boys that you hire for the duration of your water sports experience. Sure it would be pricey, but surely a fraction of the cost of getting scammed. Just a thought. coffee1.gif

    Well, Pattaya has a SWAT-team!

  2. Is the buyer of the car responsible for making sure the importer paid the tax?

What next? Cars to come wrapped in a paid excise tear strip. The buyers are supposed to call customs to check whether the importing company has smuggled it? Huh?

If a buyer of a luxury car pays THB 3m instead of THB 8m he may be held responsible, because he is supposed to know that such a price-difference isn't normal.

If a buyer of a luxury car pays THB 8m for a THB 8m-car, then you may suppose that he is not aware of the scam behind the scene.

  3. Balo , That's highway robbery, those dam bastards! Where's JT when we need him most?

He's on baht buses fighting with Iranians, russians, Germans, Ethnic American Indians, Mexicans, Spanish, Germans, Thais, Laotians, Chinese, Japanese, British, Somalians, Lebanese, Yemenese, Gutaemalans, Afghanistanis, and anyone else the US has had a punch-up with or who's had a pop at them over the last 250 years...

  4. I do use a Garmin with a Thai Roadmap and the complete European Roadmap.

It is advised to turn off the map that you won't be using. Don't know why, but that's what the Garmin shop said.

Plotting coordinates should be possible: "Where to?" -> "Scroll down the menu" -> "Coordinates"

Take care that you set the correct coordinates-format.

In Thailand I always work with coordinates and it works perfectly.

  5. He said he was wearing Great Garuda amulet, surrounded by tiny diamonds, at the time of the accident, which he believed contributed to his miraculous survival cheesy.gif

From the looks of the car I would hardly say he was lucky to survive.

Probably the amulet got him the MD job too...........and every night he is singing the Beatles golden oldie: "I'm a believer!"

  6. Pre Planning or online check will save some time, but in most cases you have to let your documents checked and luggage checked in anyway.

Most time is lost if people traveling together are trying to get a seat up to their wishes.

A bright example is KLM check in in Amsterdam:

    - or check-in online and you skip the check-machines at the airport

    - or check-in at the airport using one of the 10 machines

    - check in luggage is going automatic through a machine.....just some simple questions, push some buttons, stick your label on to your luggage and ready........no more than 3-5 minutes.

In case of a machine which doesn't "understand" names or what ever or in case of overweight of luggage, their is a helpdesk. Regular and well-prepared travelers can do everything in minutes.

  7. Firstly, are you even sure that money was the reason she backed out of the job?

Even if it was, I would think most people would be apprehensive about bringing up their dissatisfaction with the amount you were willing to pay. Not only do they not want to appear greedy, but they don't want to insult you by implying that you're cheap.

If you really didn't know the going rate, I myself would have guessed on the high side. But that's me.

If a live-in maid gets paid 5500/mo I thought 1500+dinner for four days, 3 hours each day is on the high side. I also asked a few Thais and they said that was a fine offer.

that's the rate a live-in illegal from Laos or Cambodia might get somewhere in the boonies. i have no idea where you live but i claim that no Thai maid/nanny will work for 5,500 Baht a month.

Why not? Live-in..........she doesn't have to rent a room and probably F&B as well as transport are included.

Added up...it will probably near a THB 10,000 per month rather then THB 5,500

  8. My condo is cleaned every month....it's included in the contract.

Also included in the contract is a final cleaning of THB 800 which will be deducted from the deposit.

Calling the OP a whining teenager is a bit over the top........the OP is just asking whether the landlord will do a thorough cleaning after he has moved out.

Whatever you clean and how good you have cleaned the place, there is always something to complain.
