Thailand Listed No. 4 Among Most Affordable Destinations
Emdog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
When I saw the prices, I thought "Finally, real prices not the expat working for western corporation expenses cost of living junk". Ah, but then we get the "Aussie beef costs more than my daughter's wedding", same for wine. You're in a different country, what you pine for (rather than enjoying Thai food) is like a 7 year old crying for Maypo. Have you priced Thai food back in your home country? Very east to get great pad Thai hear for 40-50 baht. In US can easily run $15 (about 500 baht). I've stayed a plenty of great little hotels in Bangkok and Pattaya in 500 baht range: clean, comfortable, air con. And price often included breakfast. Prices aren't always higher in big cities. People (well, expats) remarked how cheap Jomtien was. I thought the opposite, having moved from Phra Kanong in Bangkok. And quality much lower.... -
DeSantis seeks $98 million to fund Florida’s own military
Emdog replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
Besides early citation by placeholder, there is this in US Constitution " Article I, Section 10, Clause 3: No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay." Seems Trump has more company in the "I haven't a clue what the Constitution states" crowd. Dumber than a box of rocks -
Ron DeSantis exposes the pornography in school books
Emdog replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I would like to see some specifics regarding this porn: Name the schools that have these books in the general library. Even name the librarian. Until I get some specifics, it seems too fuzzy, similar to "some people are saying xyz". Name names and places, then we can talk based on facts & not just what a grandstanding politician says is "true" -
You live in Thailand? Live near other farangs? (If you are one). People of like interests and cultures often hang out with each other, as opposed to a larger majority that is different. That is not segregation. It is choice, the individuals choice. When the government decides who you can and can't associate with, that is segregation. Think of the Warsaw ghetto of WW2. If you can't see the difference between "must" be separate versus "choose" to be separate, there is little hope for you

I like her. She's <deleted> off many.... recall the tsunami and how she insisted on taking DNA samples etc of victims and that led to feeling of stepped on toes for those gov types who just wanted to burn them. I also believe she had input on that put up job of those two Burmese workers monkey trialed into conviction for killing the couple on Koh Tao that angered the local pirates and their official henchmen But I could be wrong...

Emdog replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
No idea what you are talking about there. Recall decade or so ago seeing handbill for concert Big Ass and underneath Potato. Thought it was one group and what a great name.... "Boom boom cash" is what the bar girls send back to Isaan, right? -

Bangkok air quality falls below safety standard on Wednesday
Emdog replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
as Pattaya is mentioned, right now BKK is 153 and Pats is 155. People may rail about motor vehicle pollution and how that needs to be cracked down on, but look at 2.5 map of Thailand: autos are just light frosting on the cake. Field burnings, here and neighboring countries are the culprits. Officials may rail about vehicles, but that is just a bit of "look over there!" distraction -
Malcolm X's family to sue FBI, CIA, NYPD for his death
Emdog replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Huh. I always thought it was the nation of Islam who killed him for turning his back on their racist form of Islam and speaking out against Elijah Muhammed for womanizing and so forth -
he's lying again.... He's a good enough liar that neither the Republicans nor the Democrats looked into his claims about his past. Now that takes pretty good lying....well, good enough.... put most of the blame on the demos, as they had most to lose. The Republicans have clearly shown with former president that massive lying is not a handicap, so why look into George?

Spy at UK's Berlin embassy jailed for selling secrets to Russia
Emdog replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
BBC was showing sentencing hearing live, for quite a bit. Was interesting at the very least. But then 6 pm came and poof! gone. to run a few "ads" for various sponsors I don't think they ever went back. -
Pattaya Pioneers Free Condom Machines Named “Love Bang, Love Safe”
Emdog replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
They will need to keep someone standing next to the machine to prevent someone from taking all of the condoms. Steal them all, then whatever you can get for them is pure profit.... I'm thinking of the vinegar bottles in red tubes on Jomtien Beach for first aid in case of jellyfish sting. Gone before you can say Jack Robinson. -
Three-Month Burn Ban Put in Place to Curb Haze, Wildfire
Emdog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha ordered the implementation of any possible measures to keep wildfire under control..." Field burnings are now considered "wildfires"? So hard to keep up.... -

The Chinese maybe thinking "Let's run it up a trial balloon and see if anyone salutes it", to mangle a couple metaphors.
