  1. I would think they could build a dozen with the huge mark up on the food they sell. Turkey was double the price of Mackro.whistling.gif

Don't forget turkey is sold by weight. Maybe the turkey at Rimping was also double the size. This past Saturday when at Rimping we purchased frozen butterball turkey breasts and price was just slightly higher than I would pay back home in Canada.
  2. The meat section of the Rimping near the Iron Bridge have been kind enough to slice my home cured bacon for me.

I would say that is pretty darn decent of them considering the fact that they are in business to sell you products. I remember 4 or 5 months ago at Rimping Nim City. My wife bought 2 salmon steaks and because we would not be going home for a few hours asked them if they would pack them in some ice. They told her to go to a machine and buy ice.
  3. This past May we used Chiang Mai properties to help us find a house that we would like to buy. We found them to be very punctual with appointments. Never tried to push us into buying any one particular house. When we finally did make a purchase they guided us all the way from the offer to purchase right through to the registry office.

    Stay away from CM properties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    x2, simply dreadful.

Appears as if I was one of the very few lucky ones.
  4. Not American but was at Dukes that night, very American menu isn't it? Food pretty ordinary and bill bloody expensive, ripped off once was enough, plenty of better and cheaper options around. Before the loyal bite that is just our honest opinion.

Sorry you found the food pretty ordinary. However to each his own. Perhaps you would share with us where you obtain plenty of BETTER and CHEAPER options

  5. Nice to see a guy with 60,000 baht try to save some baht by chatting up a 48 year old beach road lady.

How much would a hideous old dog like that quote on the street I wonder? It's surprising he thought she would be attractive enough for him to get a rise at 69. He must have been completely plastered and lucky to survive the sleeping pills on top.

To a 69 year old male a 48 year old may not appear to be a " hideous old dog" as you say.
  6. My Thai wife tells me that the reason Thais do not like to buy a pre owned house is because they believe that the house is most likely haunted by spirits and ghosts. I had a hard time to believe my wife so asked another Thai about this. He confirmed what she told me. If I were in the market for a pre owned house being sold by a Thai I would make a very low offer and when they balk at my offer remind them about the ghosts and spirits.

  7. First let me start by saying that the last time I bought a new car in my country was 2009. Went to the dealer at 9.00 AM. Found the car I wanted. Then arranged trade in for my current car. Haggled a while about trade in value. Finally got them to come up by $2500.00. Next they offered financing at 0% interest, which I accepted rather than pay cash. Then on computer they checked my credit score. At 11.25 I was out the door with the new car plated, insured and road ready.

Now last Monday my wife and I decided to buy a new car. Went to the dealer of our choice, Picked a car in the showroom that we liked. Salesman said it is not sold you can have it. Tried to get the price down but was told in Thailand the price you see is the price you pay. Fine. Then how about incentives. Salesman not sure would have to talk to someone superior. Came back and said if you buy in next 10 days will give you 5000b off 1st class insurance. Will give you free 3m window film. free lic. plate holder and free registration so I would not have to go to registry office. then came trade in talk. Had to wait 2 hours for trade in specialist to arrive. After we recieved trade in price they offered financing that was 2% below what we were getting for term deposits in bank. then filled out all the papers. Gave them everything they needed. Copies of bank statements from home country and Thailand. Copies of last 3 years income tax reports. My wifes blue book and chanote for home ownership. Then told to come back next day and meet with financing specialist. Total time elapsed day one 6 1/2 hours.

Day two had an appointment at 1.00 pm with financing. He showed up at 3.15 pm. Took 30 minutes for more paper work.Total time day two 3 hours. Then we were told financing from manufactuer would phone us the next day with questions. Which she did.

Day four. Dealer phoned and told us to come in and bring 25% down payment in cash. Plus first month financing. Plus payment for insurance. Apparently the way they do trades in here. is when your new car is ready for pick up you bring in your old car and they give you cash for it. Asked when new car would be ready for pick up. Was told 10 - 14 days. But I said you have it here in stock. Yes but we have to have film applied and go to lic. bureau. So by the time we receive new car it will be almost time for 2nd finance payment.

Now I am not complaining. Just pointing out for any new car buyers how it works here in CM.

  8. I wish that there was a local version of V8, but they always add someting sweet like carrot or pineapple juice to the vegetable juice and ruin the taste. bah.gif

Agreed. Same for the local versions of fruit juices in cans & cartons - pomegranate, mangosteen, etc.

Freshly-squeezed stuff (without the sweet syrup) is great.

You can buy sugar free fruit juices in tetra packs. Available in all the large food stores here.
  9. I was searching at Rimping recently for "2 in 1 coffee". no such luck. I've got to keep off the sugar!

Anyone know who might have this or is back to KL to buy it whenever....

I know I can always use Nescafe, but the White coffee is rather nice, but not 50% sugar or whatever it is that Thais love to have..

Why don't you just buy black coffee and add your own milk or coffee mate?
  10. Somehow these people living in the area for thousands of years and survived must have learned how to prepare for this yearly event.... The Eskimos did !!

But the Eskimos are smart inteligent people who set up gambling venues and got rich as opposed to ripping off foreigners.

Are you sure you are not confusing Indians with Eskimos? Eskimos live in far northern areas with little population pretty difficult to get rich in these areas with gambling casinos.
  11. Yes, I meet very few retired North Americans, far more Brits and ANZ.

Personally I prefer Asian women to Latin, but I admit I'd probably do both if I had the dosh.

And Thailand is definitely safer, a honky living in Columbia's really asking for trouble, and even Rio's probably more dangerous than Pattaya 8-)

I guess that in Latinamerica violence is the main problem but fortunatelly we also have lots of Asians,(Japanese, Chinese and Thai), I like Thai women cuz they are the only ones in Asia with nice asses but they usually lack boobies crying.gif

They usually lack boobies? My Thai wife has perfect 10's. But maybe you prefer basketballs.
  12. Dr Seree Senaratana is a general surgeon who is often highly recommended.

However, he only works at Ram (since 1993) and I'm not sure about laparoscopy.

It will only cost a few hundred baht to speak to him for starters though, as I'm sure you'll get at least two opinions.

    Here's his CV

    Edit: Speaks excellent English.

Thank you for the information. Will try to make an appointment with him when I go to the Ram next week for other issues.
  13. Does this doctor also do hernia operations? Also like Uptheos would you mind telling us how much it cost both for the operation and your hospital stay. I think its good if we have an idea how much various proceedures cost in Chiang Mai. Thanks

What kind of hernia? Inguinal, umbilical, hiatal -- or other?? Those types of hernia operations are almost always performed by a general surgeon and not a colo-rectal surgeon. Some have been trained with the laparoscope and others not.

Inguinal. But I am looking for laparascopic surgery.
