  1. A computer like Turings was stand alone. The internet is a system for networking computers. I have a little experience in it as my career was in networking in Silicon Valley for companies that had a hand in the development of various protocols that the internet functions on today. My last company was bought out by Cisco Systems who some might have heard of. This is not to belittle Turing. He was a genius and ahead of his time. But he had nothing to do with the internet. At least not to my knowledge. Never know. I could be unaware of some development on paper he did that led to something in the internet today.
  2. OK wanna expand on that? This should be good.
  3. Weird prediction. I recall predictions Obama would be assassinated. Or Biden would step down. Trump will serve until 2028 unless he suffers a medical emergency or dies. No one is getting ousted just because one side doesn't like his policies.
  4. Holy <deleted>. I never realized Southland which is 7/11 in the USA had a parent company in Japan.
  5. Maybe because some people are in a wait and see mode. I look out further than a one day event or "perhaps everything gets more expensive". The markets have a tendency to react wildly at uncertainty. If the market continues to sink and prices rise and it appears the world won't come to a reasonable agreement about tariffs in a few months THEN I will criticize Trump. The problem with the left is it wants to critique before knowing the outcome.
  6. Need to differentiate between the people of Iran and the psychotic regime controlling them in Iran. I think most of the people of Iran would choose a return of the Shah if it meant getting rid of the nutty suicidal mullahs.
  7. """“The American dream is not ‘let them eat flat screens,’” he said, arguing that it is instead about having good jobs that are not lost to foreign competition and wages that are high enough to afford homes.""" Is this wrong? Is the dream to have the latest iPhone and hip clothes and wonder if you will be able to educate your children? Or is job stability and earning enough to own a home more important?
  8. Why do people start threads that are false on basic premise?
  9. Not sure of your point. Your message omits a large percentage of people so no total can be reached. BTW I had no point other than a quick google to discover if the percentage of 4% was real (which I do not believe but whatever). As I said I did a quick google. I'm OK if you find a different source and different result.
  10. I was curious about the 4% and did a quick google. Seems it is more like 1.7%. https://www.wral.com/story/fact-check-mace-says-people-either-have-xx-or-xy-chromosomes/21876510/
  11. It isn't just the media. The DEM party regularly makes unhinged statements and displays outright hatred of any leader from the GOP party. They did it to Bush W and are in overdrive now against Trump. Prediction - whoever wins the nomination for the GOP party for POTUS in 2028 will instantly be categorized as worse than spoiled milk by the leftist medias and DEM party. Gets tiresome that they don't actually try proposing some issue related solutions to very real problems such as controlling spending before we are bankrupt or as one astute former DEM politician once said "It's the economy stupid".
  12. Really sad that people believe the nonsense some sources promote. Then act surprised when rational people don't buy the nonsense.
  13. Happens a lot here in the USA. Lia Thomas is one such example.
  14. A lot of that is more information. In the 50s 60s even the 70s much of the problems of the world were not reported in "our world news". So an uprising in Cambodia didn't impact us. Murder of 1000s in Africa between tribes never made the news. Now every world woe is front and center. I can see why the current generations think the world is horrible. But it isn't really new.
  15. But they ended the draft when I turned 18 which made me VERY lucky as a HS drop out. Pretty sure the army would have loved me.
  16. Thank <deleted> you didn't act confused about Motown. I mean COME ON. Motown baby. 😃
  17. I was lucky to be born in 1955. 😃
  18. Anyone cheering the failure of a large employer of Americans manufacturing state of the art cars is truly an A-hole. Just because one hates Trump and Elon is working to implement his DOGE effort doesn't make it right to vandalize peoples cars and cheer the losses incurred by so many American's who are innocent of offense. Truly despicable behavior from the left.
  19. Just looked it up and there were 392 US Casualties prior to 1965. https://www.militaryfactory.com/vietnam/casualties.php
  20. Kennedy sent in "advisors" in an effort to stem communism. Reality is they were already fighting. Johnson sent in whole scale troops. And yes the start of it was between the French and communists.
  21. OP is exactly right excepting the VN war thing for US boomers. They ended the draft the year I was eligible. We have enjoyed an incredible age of prosperity and security and opportunity. I know I have benefited being a HS drop out who has amassed enough wealth by age 42 to retire and play golf around the world. Not many places or times have offered such opportunity to one not from the inner circle or highly educated.
  22. Baffles me that even if they agree to demands WHY does our federal goverment give money to private universities?
