  1. Hi all,

I was down on Soi 8 couple of days ago for nice quiet daytime drinking session. :D

I ended up staying longer than planned was a little :o and ended up chatting these gals in a beer-bar ( not sure which one)

Its all abit hazy but my ex gf appears ( haven’t seen her for 6 months)

No ‘hello’ but she starts giving me some grief in Cambodian or some other lingo she uses up there ! then she storms off . :D

So one of these gals translats that she had put some kind of a curse on me via some local nut back in Buriram.

She was always a little crazy, talking about ghosts and weird stuff that happened up there :D

She seemed pretty concerned about it and told me I should be very careful :bah:

Anyway several drinks later I decide to go home and what happens next !!!!! crashed my new honda wave into the local 7/11 a block away from my apartment .. :D

Luckilly only got some scratches but busted up the bike pretty good so had to walk back to apartment ...

Think I should be concered about the curse or is it just a coincedence, ????

Write out 10,000 times: I will not drink and drive.

That should keep him away from Soi 8 for a while :bah:

  2. i travel on the red bus line now and again just to see the changes they have made with out informing their prospective passengers.

it seems to me that the big problems this line has its

    1. no time tables, can wait more than 1 hour for a bus.

    2. the driver seem to change the bus route at will.

    3. no real advertising for the newby on the red bus line, even though there is a lot of newbyts looking with interest.

    4. the driver horning farangs along the route but when the farangs respond break down in lingo, results in no sale.

so in summing up i still catch the bus just for the fun of it, but if i wanted to go somewhere within a time limit i would catch a baht taxi.

why would i catch a bus, firstly to wait a hour or more for, pay twice the price for small journey, and not really be sure if it is still going the way it did, last time i caught it. IMHO regards

Sounds like the same fiasco as it was before, going wherever the driver has a mind to go and long waits not even knowing if the bus is going to come your way or not........you are right why bother with it? Novelty value only.

  3. In the Hollywood Disco parking lot in the last 18 months they built a two-story motorcycle parking garage and took it down, built a fairly large one-story mystery structure in front of the entrance and took it down, half built a multi-story structure in the semi-soi to Soi 16 (Soi VC) and took it down, put in some beautiful and large palm trees and removed them, built a spirit house and eye-glass place which are still there. What's up?

Well it is a disco.......nothing stands still for long!

  4. Hi mulphy........I like Soi LK Metro for a number of reasons, one being that it`s a short cut through to internet places which I have used in the past.

The thing is I am usually delayed in getting on line by having a few bevvy`s at either San Miguel bar or LLoydies old place LLoydies bar.

I often have a refreshing mug of coffee at the corner bar (name escapes me).

Will pop in and have a bevvy with you as I am back in Patters next week. :o

  5. I really wish I could make up stuff. But I am not very good at that.

    :o

Put 5000 baht on the table and I will take you on a tour of Pattaya. Not only will we see everything I have written about but I will include a side of Pattaya that few Farangs ever see. You can see female farang sexpats and female Thai sex mongers and just about anything else you want to see.

So you doubters put your money where your mouth is. :D:D

I assume Pattaya Fox you actually live in Pattaya and are not a wanna be expat. Message me. I will take you anytime. The truth of what I have written is readily checkable. I know we are not going to like each other but heck give me a call I can put up with almost anyone for a few hours.

Yes Pattaya Fox this is a direct challenge. :D Kind of like pistols at dawn. I have slapped you in the face with my literary glove. Put up or shut up. Or send your seconds. I love a night out anyway. Looking forward to hear from you.

    REPLY.

Now you are really going over the top kerryk........... you expect me to pay for your weird night out :D

Having lived in Pattaya for 5 years and next week I will be back on my 50th trip believe me your little jaunts to your sordid seedy hangouts would do nothing for me. Your fantacies and sexual hangups thank goodness do not play a part in my world.

Although I`ve probably forgotten more than you will ever know :bah:

  6. Fox has the following meanings:-

    1. Carnivorous mammal of the genus Vulpes genera.... (I love meat and the rest just sounds sexy) :D

    2. Crafty, Sly or clever person. ( Perfect qualities to get by in life) :D

    3. Slang.. A sexually attractive person... ( sorry I can`t fit you in to-night........but I`m free on the 15th May) :D

    4. Archaic.... A sword ( macho at heart) :D

    5. To turn sour in fermenting ( never touch Chang) :bah:

    6. Characteristically having a Big Bushy tail ( always an advantage) :bah:

Then add Pattaya to that lot and it`s :o

  7. Actually....you can ignore that last remark......think what everyones getting at is that if I open a nationwide flex acocunt with a visa debit card Ill get the onshore rate at the ATM anway......god this stuff is so confusing !!

In my opinion Nationwide like any other bank outside Thailand will charge you the offshore rate after all the baht to Sterling rate surely has to be calculated as offshore. If it is a Visa card then Visa will calculate the exchange rate based on the offshore rate.

The Nationwide apparently does not charge a fee for transactions at foreign ATMs. Others charge a fixed fee of say a few pounds and some charge a percentage fee of the transaction.

But all foreign bank issuers will have to calculate the exchange rates I am sure in accordance with the offshore rates set at the time of converting the withdrawal or at the rate set for that period.

If you read the other recent thread " How the nationwide calculate their baht rate " by topfield.....you will understand what Im getting at....it seems as though for some unknown reason, this card offers the onshore rate....dont care why...Im not complaining !

I do not see any reference in these previous threads to Offshore and Onshore rate calculations by Nationwide when withdrawing at ATMs in Thailand with their flex card.

Nationwide do not charge a fee per transaction or percentage per transaction when withdrawing from ATMs which will give a rate advantage in the overall convertion of the amount which you are charged in Sterling for the withdrawal in Thai baht over the other Financial Institutions who do charge a fee or percentage per transaction.

However the conversion rate from Thai baht into Sterling will be at the offshore lower rate.

  8. Actually....you can ignore that last remark......think what everyones getting at is that if I open a nationwide flex acocunt with a visa debit card Ill get the onshore rate at the ATM anway......god this stuff is so confusing !!

  9. The current exchange rates in Thailand for the £ are around 69++. However International exchange rates for baht/£ are in the region of 65. It has been like this since the government introduced currency restrictions.

When I use my nation wide debit card in kasikorn ATM, which exchange rate is used?

Have just received my Nationwide debit card and do not want to end up getting the lower rate

    Any info please

    Good question.

I believe that If you are withdrawing Thai baht by Visa, Mastercard or other credit or debit card from a Thai Bank by either ATM or inside the bank and the card is issued from outside Thailand you will get the lower rate (offshore rate).

If you exchange Foreign cash or travellers cheques in a Thai Bank or Thai exchange you will get the higher rate (onshore rate).

The lower rate has been as low as 64baht to the GBP Sterling offshore and as high as 70.3baht to the GBP Sterling onshore.

So if visiting Thailand it is probably better to take cash or Travellers cheques and pay the 1% commission or so than to lose 5 to 6 baht to the pound.

  10. QUOTE(Phil Conners @ 2007-02-17 16:15:07) post_snapback.gifAnd btw, Axel, Spore is still only an hour and a half away, even if they are in a different timezone :o

Thanks Phil, I am regularly on either CX or TG. 2 hrs 20 min. Who is faster?

    CX712 SIN 13:50 BKK 15:10 02:20 hrs

    Thai Airways Intl (TG 404)

    dep: 12:25 - Singapore (SIN) terminal 1

arr: 13:45 - Bangkok (BKK) terminal

BKK-SIN flight time is definetly 2hrs 20mins..!(takeoff to landing by stopwatch)

Because of the one(1) hour time difference between singapore & thailand, you "lose" an hour travelling eastbound, and "gain" an hour travelling west, (in respective local times).

Next time I`m going Sing to BKK I`ll def book a flight on Phils Airways to get me there 50 mins sooner.

Do you land at Don Muang or the new one Phil?

  11. Just take the above for example. Do you really think that any of us who have a long connection with Pattaya believe that this has happened to you?

Oh, I don't know if he witnessed them all or not foxxy. But i have personally seen the crazed elephant, drunken fights, countless motorbike crashes and although i haven't personally seen the machete fights and shootings, those type of incidents are in the paper's enough.

Unfortunately mrbo thats what kerryk does he takes press stories and sensational snippets and puts them together and makes out that it has all happened to him!

Pure fantasy trying to create silly stories for his own strange satisfaction :o

  12. Read some of the Stickie submissions, makes me laugh, he sits around tourist bars in a major tourist town like Pattaya, but describes it like he's living on the very edge, almost a second Vietnam experience! :o

In one month in one bar on a street in Pattaya I have been charged by one crazy elephant, three motorcycles, 6 drunk Englishmen, one drunk Dane, witnessed three fight with machete wielding motorcycle drivers and one shooting. This is significantly more action than I saw in Vietnam in one month.

Oh kerryk It is no wonder that you get the ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs because what you write is a load of rubbish and I fear that it comes from a person who has no grasp of reality, or pretends that he can fool the majority of the readers here.

Just take the above for example. Do you really think that any of us who have a long connection with Pattaya believe that this has happened to you?

Of course not it is pure fantasy and designed by you to create interest and aimed at the less experienced Pattaya visitors or expats and to satisfy your ego that you can write.

Your fiction may be interesting to those who have a poor knowledge of the subject being written about or who confuse fantasy with reality but if you feel that your childish ramblings fool people who know Pattaya well then I fear that it is your small brain that needs to be examined by a good shrink.

The art of a Good fiction writer is to hold the audience in awe and anticipation right to the end, not to show the readers that you are a baffoon in the first thread.

  13. Does anybody know where the Enjoy Internet cafe is??

There's 3 of them that I know about.

All on soi Buakhou, one at the night market behind the family mart, one near Pattaya Klang and one towards soi honey, all on the same side.

I've used 2 of the offices for years on end and never had a problem and one of the reasons why I keep returning is because they never rip you off. There is more to this story me thinks, :o

Thanks I`ve used the one at the night market behind the family mart for a year or two now but never knew what it was called, I think they charged 25 baht for the hour and always polite and provide free water. :D

  14. Why would I use this bus if I have to wait 25 minutes for it when I can get a songthaew in a few seconds for a 3rd of the price and be at my destination in a couple of minutes?

Well I won`t be waiting in the heat for the coloured bus and neither will I be running to the bustop for the priviledge of boarding one when the baht bus is so convenient. :o

  15. Not a big deal - they can tout their services, but I rarely see anyone using them. I suppose someone must do, or they wouldnt be there. I always have a private car service waiting. :o

Me too....................infact I have just booked for my next arrival..........car cost to Pattaya incl all tolls 1200baht :D

  16. Tourist discovers it wasn’t Ovaltine

    11-News-18.jpg

Dangers of taking strangers to room A British man had a lucky escape with a poisonous cocktail mixture after inviting a Thai woman back to his room at the Welcome Plaza hotel in Pattaya.

Mr Brian Unsworth, 68, was still woozy when interviewed by police but could remember the outlines. He said he had gone for a walk on the Beach Road and stopped for a breather on the steps of the Royal Garden mall. Here he had met a Thai young lady who said it might be a good idea if she went back with him for unspecified activities.

Back in the room, after some pleasantries, she said she had some Ovaltine in a labelled packet and invited him to partake of the well known bedtime drink with hot water. The next he knew, he woke up with a splitting headache and found that 200 pounds, 1,000 baht Thai cash and credit cards were missing. Police checked the ID registration at reception and took away the woman’s details and her accommodation address. With luck, she will pay for her crimes before the trail goes cold.

Mr Unsworth had been administered a Mickey Finn and was fortunate that it was one of the lighter brews.
