  1. You are correct with the point that there is a lot of confusion. The Police are interpreting the law as they see fit and many bars including the Outback are taking a safe line of no smoking at the actual bar face. We are open air but the second law says that we must provide a non smoking area and a segregated smoking zone. We, like many other bars are waiting to see how the chips fall while keeping very safe. The personal fine is 2,000 baht but the bar fine is 20,000baht for allowing smoking at the bar. No bar is willing to pay that just so that a couple of guys can have a durrie.

So are you a customer at the Outback bar or one of the owners? Because you use the term "We are open air".

I am the manager - not owner

    CB

Exactly as I thought a bit of free advertising for 'your' bar in the context of the smoking topic. Other bar owners like myself would be given a 'warning' or a 'holiday' for such a stunt!

May I remind all business owners, managers or entrepreneurs that advertising or promoting your business interests on this site requires a sponsorship which can be discussed by contacting [email protected].

As far as your bar begs is concerned you have been given plenty of leeway in the past and many a free plug so I don`t think that you have any reason to grumble :o

  2. I use since nearly two years the laundry of the A1 Hotel (that's the cruise ship shaped Hotel at Beach Rd). If you go down Soi 2, it's just before the Hotel itself at the left hand side. So you get the "Hotel Laudry Quality" but you don't pay more then at other laudrys.

Just a question. Is hotel laundry quality supposed to be a higher standard then regular laundry's?

Don`t bank on it. A lot of the smaller hotels send them out to be done and quality can vary but the price will be much more than if you took them to a laundry yourself. :o

  3. Can anyone tell me where i can get a decent buisiness card made in a day or better an hour - in Pattaya.

    thanks

Upstairs in Big C Second Road there is a kiosk before you get to the iced cream parlour.

They will do them while you wait :o

  4. Two Elderly English Men brutally attacked following road accident.

A scene of chaos greeted Police who were called to the “Made in Thailand” car park in North Pattaya in the early hours of Tuesday Morning. At the scene two foreign men were lying unconscious on the ground and a car and two pick-ups were damaged following an apparent collision. Mr. John Snelders aged 71 and Mr. Benjamin Lloyd aged 80, both from England eventually came round and received treatment for their injuries at the scene and were later transferred to Hospital. Both were inside their Toyota Vios pick-up, at the time of the crash. The driver of the car involved in the crash was Police Senior Sergeant Major Chiwit from Pattaya Police Station who was off-duty at the time. Two Thai Men in the other pick-up involved in the crash did not remain at the scene and were thought to have attacked the two elderly English Men, according to the Police Officer. He further explained that he was attempting to clear the accident with all three parties involved, however the two English Men were not cooperating. The other two Thai Men involved in the case proceeded to attack the two English men and ran away. Police are now searching for the two attackers at this time

  5. Can anyone help? I have retired to Pattaya, and am having trouble getting onto a network of friends or even acquaintances. I am a fairly reserved 56 year old, shy even, but most days I only ever talk to the check out chick or bar maid (Singha please, and Check bin Khrup), and its starting to drive me crazy. I was a fairly senior emergency/trauma nurse in my previous life, and would be happy to give some of my time (of which I have a lot) if there is a voluntary organisation that exists. Any ideas?

Why don`t you go along to the Pattaya Expats Club?

The club meets every Sunday morning at the Grand Sole hotel on Second Road :o

  6. Walking along Beach Road during the day is not a problem, however during the last few years walking along there late at night or in the early morning can be a big problem.

No matter how confident you feel about being able to defend yourself history has shown us that this area is a hub not only for prostitution but for a number of desperate people including drug addicts. thieves, robbers, pimps and down and outs who will not hesitate in attacking someone if an altercation arises.

You may not be a victim in fact you may walk along there completely unhindered, but why take unnecessary chances, after all most of us would avoid the dodgy areas of towns and cities of the Western world.

I would urge everyone to use common sense and avoid walking alone in lonely areas of Pattaya during the hours of darkness.

  7. British National Arrested for Allegedly Selling Cocaine

In the early hours of Monday morning, undercover police acting on information, arrested Barry Sim, a 36-year-old British national, at the Buffalo Bar on Third Road on suspicion he was engaged in selling cocaine. Mr Sim was brought back to his residence in Soi Khao Talo in Eastern Pattaya, where he claimed he had purchased the two packets of cocaine allegedly found in his possession. Police searched his house and found a device used to check the veracity of illegal narcotics which Mr Sim claimed he kept to avoid being ripped off by unscrupulous elements. Police believe Mr Sim is in fact a dealer rather than a user and he has been detained pending further investigations.

  9. The food is reasonably priced and served quickly. although they forgot to put the cheese in the cheeseburger which I ordered.

The whole place has a comfortable relaxing feel to it. The music is good. All four of the TV screens show the same videos and maybe if possible different screens could show different topics which may attract more customers who are not particularly interested in watching the music videos.

The outer area is very relaxing with great ambience with views across the bay.

One of the best ideas is the all around shutters which can be pulled down at the hint of a storm arriving and therefore no-one has to run for cover except the users of the very outer tables.

All in all it should be a winner. :o

  10. It sure was a great night.....although after downing the 5th Rubber Nipple (what is that drink made of??) things became slightly blurred :o

Great to meet friends old and new and a big thanks to the management and staff for helping the evening go with a swing.

The Outback Bar is a great venue and would probably be perfect for future TV gatherings. :D

  11. Over the last week or so I have spoken to quite a number of these guys enjoying their R & R..some of them have gone up to three months without leave...the excercises are supposed to finish towards the end of the month.

  12. I saw two people complain that their watches(200 to 300 Baht) didnt work.

    They were ignored.

This applies to the small stall just behind that pretzel place.

    Beware.

The stall which I think that you are referring to is on ther ground floor behind Auntie Annes and seems to do good business. Out of interest there is a sign on the stall which states No Returns.

  13. I hear that some hotels are now using the Pattaya taxi meters for airport runs 850 baht not including motorway or 1200 inclusive.

I have approached 2 taxi meter cabs parked up within the last 7 days and neither were prepared to make a local journey using the meter. I was quoted fixed prices of 250 baht from Naklua to Jomtien and 150 baht from Central road to Jomtien.

  14. Englishman sets his house on fire following argument with girlfriend.

In the early hours of Friday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Chaiyporn from Banglamung Police Station made his way to house number 81/3 at the Satisook Village following reports of a major fire at the location. Police were met by Mr. Daniel Thomas aged 32 from England who was clearly intoxicated. He is the owner of the house and explained that earlier in the night he had engaged in a verbal altercation with his Thai Girlfriend. Tempers erupted and Mr. Thomas admitted to setting his house on fire. Over 1 Million Baht’s worth of damage was caused and luckily no one was injured in the blaze. The investigation into the fire will continue over the next few days as Police give time for Mr. Thomas to recover from the effects of the alcohol.
