  1. Publicus, you can write hundreds of papers about the technicalities regarding the legality and appropriateness of how the governments are usually overthrown or dissolved in this country but, would you mind to spare a thought about their rampant corruption, abuse of power, and disrespect of law?.

People with good will and optimism is expecting that something better will come from all this mess, in the form of stronger anti-corruption laws, better implementation of justice, more transparency, and better checks and balances system; pessimists are expecting nothing but a catastrophe; and Thaksin’s lovers are expecting to kiss the ass of his master again, and to get rid of the “elite” to become themselves the one and only elite in the country (North Korea Style).

    North Korea, eh?

Yeah, I really want to listen to you. w00t.gif

North Korea Style, yes. Not Gangnam Style

And Dennis Rodman will play for Thailand. Sorry... I mean, for the "Lanna Republic of North Thailand Under the Command of the Supreme Dear Leader Thaksin I:

  2. One can't help but notice the stark contrast between this interview and Surapong's press conferences. The U.S. regards the PDRC as a peaceful protest. Thaksin's cousin does not. The U.S. ambassador also says this :

" She said she agreed with US Secretary of State John Kerry that democracy consists of many elements, including the rule of law, transparency, strong institutions and an independent judiciary, besides the election, which she sees as an important factor. "

Indeed. The U.S. emphasizes that in addition to elections -

    - the rule of law

    - transparency

    - strong institutions

    - an independent judiciary

    - are vital. And that is why Yingluck and Pheu Thai are in trouble. They want to get rid of the checks and balances that would impose transparency on them, and make them accountable. It's why people are on the streets. But more than anything, this indicates that the U.S hasn't bought into Surapong's narrative. They regard the PDRC as a peaceful protest, and the elements of democracy detailed here in this interview that are so vital and justify public discussion - that public dialogue - which the U.S. supports - is important.

    +1

And it would also be amazing if the US would suggest open televised debates of the leaders.

It would be priceless, and a treasure for the positive development of this country, to see Yingluck and Suthep talking face to face and without predetermined agenda in front of the camera.

  4. Why do you need an N7? Or better, what do you need/want?

Hi. I am sorry for hijacking the thread, but since the OP has already bought his N7... smile.png

I was also in the search of the N7, arrived to this thread, and then confronted myself with the interesting question from lomatopo biggrin.png

Why?: I don't know. I was starting to feel sick after having been searching options for 3 days, and that one was stuck into my mind.

For what?: Yep. That seems to be a better question.

My phone is a Galaxy S4 mini, and I want to buy a tablet to use some applications with a bigger screen. The applications will basically be:

    - epub Book readers

    - Thai learning software and dictionaries (ie Paiboon Thai/English)

I believe that 7" - 8" will be large enough to use it as a e-reader, but not too heavy to hold for a long time (as a 10" tablet)

What is your opinion about the alternatives to the N7 for a similar price? (14,000 THB max) i.e. Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Tab 3 (8")... ?

  5. It would seem that many of the posters here have not read the article they are just following a crowd which has lost it's way. there was noo political statements involved other than the visable ones given by the red shirts who were ordered to dress in black.

so I will reprint the article here in order for you to understand what happened.

Nonthaburi PCAD Rally Site Seized By Redshirts

    By Khaosod English

    x13956548631395654912l.jpg.pagespeed.ic.

Redshirts activists punch a monk who voiced his displeasure at their dismantling of rival political rally stage in Nonthaburi province, 24 March 2014

BANGKOK: -- Redshirts activists have dismantled the rally stage set up by anti-government protesters in Nonthaburi province today.

Supporters of the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD) have previously installed a rally site, complete with loudspeakers and a stage, near the office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission in the province.

But pro-government Redshirts under the name People's Radio for Democracy (PRD) later arrived at the scene, and proceeded to dismantle the rally stage.

A leader of the PRD claimed the operation was meant to "seize back" the area from anti-government "rebels". The PRD has held rally in front of the NACC office in the past to protest the Commission's corruption case against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Although no PCAD supporter was present at the rally site at the time of the incident, fistfights erupted when a monk approached the Redshirts before berating them for their actions and making other impolite remarks to the activists.

Some of the Redshirts became enrgaged and mobbed the monk, who was later rescued from the angry mob by police officers.

    Thank You, Northernjohn.

An we have to keep in mind that this article is from Khaosod, the Red Shirt newspaper. So the allegation that he reportedly made "impolite remarks" may not be so true.

  6. Finally, since the red-shirt mob was still waiting to beat the monk again, it was the unarmed Royal Thai Army who had to intervene to escort the monk to a safe place, in front of the PASSIVE COPS that did nothing to protect the monk. As you can see on the video, the Police was only interested in registering the bag of the monk (and found nothing interesting).

ps: at the video you can also hear the monk that politely says to the red-shirts that it is not good to create problems for the community. Then the Red Shirts start to beat him shouting that he is a PDRC. I cannot imagine what they would do to a person that is not a monk and is actually an anti-government protester.

  7. The final backstop for the Thaksin cheerleaders is the assertion that Thaksin is just another corrupt individual, no more and no less. Its a last play of a 'get out of jail' card. Unfortunately it is rather a weak card. If Thaksin was just about financial corruption he wouldn't be where he was now. Instead he would be just another member of the Thai establishment. What singles out Thaksin is that his aim is total state power. The corruption is his means of getting there.

It's not a final backstop, it's a statement of fact.

It's a fact oft repeated in the hope that it may do some good and break the cult-like spell Suthep and his backers have cast over a feeble minded few.

Thaksin can only gain power through winning elections and he can also have power stripped from him by losing elections.

Those opposed him are in quite the opposite situation, they can only gain power by ignoring, sabotaging or annulling elections and can only be removed from power by the good citizens taking to the streets and giving their lives to stare down the barrels of their oppressors guns.

The only way this country is going to see the back of Thaksin is by legitimately beating him in an election.

    Do that, and he's history.

    Gone forever.

Keep up with all the coup nonsense and you just make him more popular and more powerful.

Yes, it seems like Thaksin is becoming more and more powerful, like if he were feeding and growing with the opposition of those who can open their eyes and see corruption, disrespect of law, tyranny, and abuse of power.

He reminds me of an evil creature in one story at the Suttas (Buddhist scriptures) about an evil bad smelling creature that takes the throne of the king, and the more the villagers fight him, the stronger he grows, feeding himself from the opposition of the people.

Fairy tales don't work on the masses anymore.

    They all have iPhones.

Seriously? And what does it means to have an iPhone? rolleyes.gif

Your master, Thaksin Shinawatra, may have an iPhone but he is one of the most ridiculously superstitious tycoons on this planet. laugh.png

Describing his irrational behavior, or the visits to sorcerers and khemer voodoo gurus to perform rituals and Black Magic could fill thousands of pages. Not to mention his business with the Dhammakaya Cult.

Some of his most notorious freaky moments, that called the attention of the international newspapers, were the ordering to the Red Shirts to spill their own blood in front of the Government House and the house of Abhisit to perform a Voodoo Black Magic ceremony, and digging Magic Crystal Balls and golden elephants at the Manchester Stadium.

Just google ‘Thaksin Shinawatra black magic voodoo blood”.

  8. Does not have to be all reforms in place before an election.

All that is needed are electoral reforms to keep crooks out of government and make an election as fair as possible.

Then hold an election followed by all the other reforms as decided on by an independent body and taken to a referendum with the result binding on the Govt.

Exactly what I have been saying since the first snap election was called and Yingluck refused no negotiate and she sure as hell wouldn't agree to reforms before elections then.

Here is what I posted for discussion on PDRC and Dems facebook pages (where I am very active and actually get respect from the Thais) for discussion.

If Yingluck and the PTP refuse to accept reforms before elections, maybe they would agree to 'electoral reforms' to make them free and fair..... It would only take no more than 2 weeks... Then new elections can go ahead with the Dems...

    Following suggested reforms.

1.... Evidence of attempted vote buying will result in disqualification of that party's candidate with a life ban from all government positions/employment and also given a 5 year prison sentence (mandatory). 10 breeches of this rule by the guilt party, then party withdrawn from election and banned for life.

2... All pre-election policies to be scrutinized by a specialist panel from the EC (election commission). To look for policies like the rice scheme, that are only aimed at getting voters in a specific sector of the electorate. Instead all policies MUST be for the benefit of the entire nation not just farmers from the north.

3... Village elders and leaders found guilty of pressuring the village's voters which way to vote to be punished with a 5 year prison sentence and a life ban from holding their position again. Also the party they are urging to vote for to have the same punishment as for vote buying.

4... Any party that is suspected to have any involvement with Thaksin or any member of the Shinawatra family wives or relatives to be immediately dissolved and all its members banned from politics for life.

5... Any person who have had any past criminal convictions or who are currently under investigation by the NACC are banned from registering as a candidate.

This will take no more than 1 to 2 weeks, and then elections can be held.... The Dems will win by a mile, then they can oversee the rest of the national reforms to eradicate corruption completely.

So will Yingluck and the PTP actually agree to a quick electoral reform and quicker and most importantly 'unaffected' elections as a compromise????

If they say yes, they would probably defuse the tension immediately and it will go a long way to declare that they have confidence to contest a really free and fair election. Of course none of the PTP or Yingluck will agree with point 4. But as long as the EC comes out with this and backed by and signed off by the courts... The there is little they can do.

Some of the Dems won't like this point 4 either, but I am sure they will be willing to accept it because they believe in true democracy.

But either way... They won't be able to refuse it as long as they have agreed to allow the EC to make the reforms.

#1 - A good one. I don't think the party candidate should suffer though...He/She is not always responsible for supporters offering money to support their buddy...Alternatively, throw the book at both they who offer money, and those who accept it, equally.

#2 - Not democratic.....Govts. always have an eye on being re-elected and must be responsive to an electorate with policies that do it.. Suggesting the Election Commission alone in this example, indicates how skewed this would be....Currently the election commission is the 'anti-election commission", in league with the PAD-Dem's and coup-mongers.

#3 - The Party should not be held responsible. OK to excoriate local bigwigs though.

#4 - Ridiculous and not worthy of comment.

#5 - Would be OK, after the NACC is de-politicized.

#5 - should read: "After the NACC is Thaksinized", to serve the interests of The Master

  9. Tip of the iceberg... If authorities would really want to fight against prostitution, they would start to clean all entertainment venues, starting by ALL massage parlors on Ratchada, Nana Plaza and Cowboy and so on... This Chacherngsao operation is probably the result of the owner not paying enough money to the police. CORRUPTION is the CANCER of the Thai Society. Police = Mafia. They control all and nothing will never change unless there is a deep and final cleaning of the Police, main root cause of the rapid downfall of this country which is no more State and no more Authority, other than money and corruption. This country is a total ANARCHY. I am just reminding facts that are very well known, but it reaches such an indecent level of hypocrisy that the whole country is now DOOMED.

Bugger me, I bet you are a laugh-a-minute to have a pint with. What a proper boring rant....

Decency and Respect for Women are not measured in number of laughs and pints.

I have no praise for this act, for two reasons.

Number one is that Buddha himself opposed idolatry and rejected the whole concept of statues and other images in the spiritual journey. Essentially he believed they were the opposite of his teachings, which were about the internal voyage and the acts of compassion and balance that you projected outwards to the world, a world in which the trees rocks and birds are as much "you" as the meat and bone your soul carries around. So basically the Buddha would reject all the images of himself, including the one proposed in the OP.

Secondly and obviously, it is utterly shameful to destroy art of any form, especially older pieces. Very sad to see.

You consider a canon to be art?

    GC0152b.JPG

    ori__1758519028_1101548_GRADE_A~_Antique

    Is this art?

    No, it is design.

    no its a cannon, a weapon..biggrin.png

if we consider this art, then we could also consider an ICBM or an AK-47 "art"

I remember reading something one time which said something cant be "art" if it has a function other than being "art"..

therefore as this has another function, its a cannon..it cant be art....its a pretty cannon..thumbsup.gif

Cannons can be much more than pretty.
