Frozen pension policy turns British expat's dream into a nightmare
delgarcon replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
For those of you that are already living here, as far as the uk gov is concerned, youve missed the boat I'm afraid. For those who are thinking about retiring in Thailand, here's some advice on how to keep your pension up to date. 1) Keep your UK bank account open to use for the payment of your pension 2)You need an address where HM Gov can write to you (a family member, an ex wife who still loves you😄 for example) who will e-mail you the correspondence, particularly life certs, which you can download, print and get the local pharmacist, for example,to sign and stamp. 3)You have 16 weeks from the date of the letter accompanying the certificate, to return the certificate IN THE BROWN ENVELOPE, which your co conspirator must keep and post when he/she receives the signed cert from you. 4)Keep a record of the dates of correspondence in case you get a letter from HM gov asking you where you have been living for the last year. You have to tell them you were in Thailand when you were sent the L.C. for example. I don't believe that you will be asked for proof of where you were living (I wasn't), just make sure you don't drop yourself in it. Remember that the Pension service is very busy and that they're not going to waste time chasing a few quid. In 12 years I've never been asked why some of .my life certificates have been signed in Thailand. -
Thailand Crowned Best Country to Visit in 2024
delgarcon replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Top of my list is Barbados. I spent the best part of 2 winters there, before I came to Thailand and I loved every minute of it. Fun people, great night spots and restaurants, a fantastic climate and beautiful beaches that you could, very often, have to yourself. On both occasions I rented inexpensive apartments for 2 and 3 months and if circumstances had been different I'd probably be living there now. -

My UK state earnings related pension is now £14,000 per annum and as I've just turned 80, I reckon I've got nothing to complain about. -
Don't worry, it's only a dream!

Online TM47 90 day report (Rejected)
delgarcon replied to banglay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I've been reporting online since we were given the option, but I too have had my last 2 reports refused. I really thought that after all the problems, in the beginning, with the online system,we were finally out of the woods. Unfortunately, if it works don't try to fix it doesn't seem to work in Thailand, more like if it works, let's f...k it up. -

UK police catch British pedophile at London airport
delgarcon replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What realism have you accepted, that you're going to die during the next 5 years? Most people, including me, consider themselves lucky reaching 80 and we realise that we are in the later stages of our lives, but just remember that we are a long time dead, there's no rush. Do your best to stay reasonably healthy and we'll speak again in 5 years time!😉 -

I think it probably depends on where you are transferring from. I use Wise to transfer from the UK and their exchange rates are excellent and the funds from the online transfer arrive in seconds. If you were to transfer sterling now you would get 45.54 nett to the pound in your bank. The op's situation requires knowledge that we don't necessarily have, hence my comments. He's not going to buy anything anyway, so we're arguing about nothing.

Unsure why 90-day online notify rejected

If you can't phone them and you end up having to go to CM, make sure you take a completed TM30 with you, this seems to be a sticking point with online reporting at the moment.
