  1. Unfortunately he sold out to ghost writers in later years and I gave up reading their garbage some years back..
  2. Prices have tripled, at least, during the last 10 years. Israelis and Russians have been buying, building and renting decent properties on the Island and prices have shot up. Before you book anything, make sure that the property has access to year round water, as lack of rain in Koh Phangan and Samui, along with a virtual non existence of planning permission for new properties is creating a MAJOR problem.
  3. I watched The Valet (2022) yesterday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well acted, funny, sad and above all entertaining.
  4. Most of the stuff I watch is recommended by the IMDB users, as is Lost and according to the majority it's worth watching to the end. I've just finished Season 4 and I'll try and remember to give you the heads up when i get to the end.
  5. I don't know about the rest of you, but I love a series that is binge worthy and LOST is just that. Gone are the days when you couldn't go out on Monday or Tuesday because your favourite show was on the box, Now, you can catch up when you like. Some of you will have seen LOST as it finished in 2010, but if like me it went under your radar, do yourself a favour and give it a try. You will know almost immediately whether or not it's for you. Me, I've already watched more than half of the 121 episodes and I'm really enjoying the series.
  6. Yes, very sad, especially being all young people. What I can't understand is that very little that goes on in KP gets in the press. When I came here 11 years ago, I was told that more than 100 people died in MC accidents per year on KP, and I've heard of some terrible examples. It makes me wonder if that kind of news is deliberately suppressed.
  7. Just to update those of you still interested, it seems that there were 7 fatalities, including the reckless driver, who, being Burmese, probably had neither driving license nor insurance. The brand new pickup is owned by a building firm owned by a well known lawyer, who no doubt will not be held criminally accountable for allowing her overloaded pickup to be driven by a macho kid. The police now have their dead scapegoat to carry the can and all that now remains is the passing of envelopes.
  8. It's quite possible that she didn't know that she was pregnant, it seems that nobody else did. I knew a young lady, many years ago, who went to her doctor to complain of stomach pains. When he examined her he told her she was having a baby and sent her straight to hospital, where she gave birth 2 days later. She'd had no idea that she was pregnant.
  9. "Can't cure stupidity of the Thais/Burmese riding the pick-up" They're young blokes Robin. I remember some of the stupid things that I did when I was young, I was banned from driving 3 times, which may have saved my life. These kids aren't going to question the safety of all piling into the pickup, it's the job of those responsible for the transport to keep them safe.
  10. My gf met one of the doctors from the local hospital about an hour ago and she told her that there were 20 people (mostly Burmese construction workers) in the pickup and sadly 3 of them died. Everyday, probably throughout Thailand, we see overloaded pickups and motorbikes going about their business and everyday someone dies and will continue to die until someone says, 'you can't do that' and enforces it.
  11. Apparently it was a pick up carrying workers, guess what, driving too fast and couldn't make the bend near the temple of the main road to Chaloklam
  12. I'm in Madawaaan. The accident (or Cruise ship) was somewhere between here and Chaloklam
  13. Since around 8am I've heard at least 10 ambulances with sirens blaring and it's still going on. Obviously some are return journeys, but it looks like full moon party weekend has claimed more victims. There goes another ambulance!
  14. I recently watched the 2011 movie, The Lincoln Lawyer and thoroughly enjoyed it, which prompted me to binge watch season 1 of the current series of the same name. great TV and I'm waiting until season 2 is completely on line to watch it. Written by Michael Connelly, who created Bosch, another binge worthy series.
  15. Depending on how badly you want to stay there, maybe a couple of thousand baht would encourage her to complete the TM30.
  16. Unfortunately Thais do not learn how to drive competently. I had to teach my gf how to drive after she had completed her lessons in Koh Samui and passed her test, the test being a total farce.
  17. I use Wise to transfer currency from one country to another and their rates and charges are hard to beat. I wouldn't transfer the money in one lump, however.
  18. Show this to your wife, she'll say we're all nuts.
  19. When I first went over to Thong Nai Pan, a few years back, it was a dirt road and it had been raining heavily the night before. We were two on our Honda Click and that was a challenge. I didn't go back until the new road was finished and I wondered how I'd managed it before.
