  1. It is said that Dr Prin of Bumrungrad Hospital is the go to Ophthalmologist for the rich and famous here in Thailand. I'm neither, but I put my trust in him for cataract surgery and the result was perfect. Fortunately the operation was timely as I was millimetres away from glaucoma.

  12. I think you'll find that most, if not all. 7/11s have CCTV, which you can ask to see, in the event of a dispute over payment. If it's refused, you call the old Bill I
  13. I'm so glad that this hospital has shown its true colours to the rest of the World. A few years back I was sent there by speed boat and ambulance from KP and wheeled straight into ICU having had a suspected heart attack. Along comes a nurse with a clipboard asking me to sign an admittance form agreeing to pay 68000 tbh PER NIGHT for the pleasure of staying. It was Saturday night and I asked the nurse when would I see the cardiologist. Not before Tuesday she replied, there's not a cardiologist on the Island before then. Fortunately I had recovered somewhat and was able to work out that I would be racking up a bill for 200000 tbh having my blood pressure checked for the next 3 nights while waiting for the cardiologist. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I got my gf to call a taxi and take me to the state hospital, where I spent the night. I was given the OK and discharged the following morning and the bill, including medication was less than 7000tbh. Thankfully I was more fortunate than the poor Taiwanese.
  14. The Electricity company still does it
  15. Especially at the 7/11 opposite the police station in Koh Phangan. Fortunately there was a policeman standing next to me when I counted my change, which was 100baht short. He waited with me while the girl who had served me returned , she had handed me my change with no bill and disappeared immediately, before I had a chance to check the change. The policeman also told me that I could check the CCTV if she didn't pay me when she returned. She paid me of course.
  16. I made my usual 90 day report online, a few days ago and this time it was rejected, telling me to visit my nearest Imm office immediately, which happens to be Koh Phangan. I took copies of my online request and receipt and subsequent rejection from Thai Immigration and had to do the whole thing again by hand, together with a TM30 with the house owner (my gf) present. As usual, there was no explanation of why the online report was rejected and whether or not I could continue online reports in future. I will just have to wait and see! I've been here almost 12 years now and haven't left Thailand since October 2019 (my last re-entry) and I've found nothing in Thailand quite as traumatic as a visit to the Immigration office.
