  1. in udon thani , i,m sure bike for bike more farangs ride without a helmet than thais

they know the chance of police stopping them is small and when cought its only a

200bt fine , without an helmet they can ride around all day showing just how COOL

    they are .......

Most expats in Udon wear helmets.... well, the ones that live in Udon. Can't speak for the 'tourist' types. Most Thais do not wear helmets.

If you get stopped for no helmet, Thai or expat, it is indeed a 200 baht fine and a ticket.

The really COOL part is being able to ride around without a helmet for the rest of the day. You just wave the 'paid already' ticket and carry one.

Will be even more cool when your head scraps the pavement after you get sideswiped by a drunk truck driver...

  2. The Shostakovitch Symphony No 11 "The Year 1905" is worth the trip - folks. An orchestra masterwork (or as I like to call it "Brass Players Eat Tokyo")

If you can't see us live (and every concert we have folks from Pattaya and Hua Hin joining, so their are die hards out there), tune in on Saturday afternoons (Channel 9) at 4pm. Our Saturday concerts are broadcast live.

The TPO will move into Prince Mahidol Hall (2,000 seat concert hall on the campus of Mahidol University Salaya) in November. The hall is being acoustically designed by Muller (Same company that did the Esplanade in Singapore) so its going to be a spectacular venue. Don't miss us - we are pretty decent :)

  4. Its moderately corrupt in certain sectors, very corrupt in others, and less corrupt in others. Many shades of gray here - and there are people who are not corrupt, but if spend most of your time on Walking Street in Pattaya, or Patpong or Nana in Bangkok, you aren't likely to find incorruptible folks easily.

  5. Q: How do you call a Thai person with an IQ of 70?

    A: Professor

Interesting to see that at least he can prove that 600k out of his 65 millions are his own.

    Oh, ye, of little faith

I wonder why other countries don't accept credentials from graduates of Thai universities? The lecturers/professors are world class. Slapping women around in public, innocently assisting in millions of Baht bank transfers without asking any questions, selling diplomas.

My students with degrees from Mahidol have been accepted in many great universities across, US, Europe, Australia, etc, with no problems, and no problems "Accepting their credentials" (The people who spout this have yet to suggest what that even means...). Most university lecturers here are average or below average, some are pretty good, a few are excellent, a few are terrible - but painting everything black is untrue.

  6. Interfere in gang violence in Klong Toei? If you did you would have been a great candidate for next year's Darwin Awards. Don't get involved - you probably don't speak the language well enough to explain yourself, and you would most likely just end up getting yourself or someone else hurt.

  7. Yes - My area lol

LOTS of great concerts happening - A great resource for arts and music is this calendar - https://sites.google.com/site/bkkmacaldetails/

The best and largest music school in Thailand is the College of Music at Mahidol University (actually one of the best in all of SE Asia) and has a huge concert schedule of student, faculty artist and guest concerts. The website is updated daily - http://www.music.mahidol.ac.th/en/index.php (very active chamber music programs as part of the curriculum) - Mahidol students and faculty perform throughout Bangkok. Its also the home of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, the finest orchestra in Thailand - http://www.thailandphil.com/

The Goethe Institut has lots of great concerts regularly - http://www.goethe.de/ins/th/ban/en7396960v.htm A lot of the concerts at the Goethe small auditorium are put on by D & M Music (a local impresario - http://www.dmmusic.org/index.html# ) who features a lot of solo and chamber concerts

Siam Society has lots of great concerts regularly - http://www.siam-society.org/

Bangkok 5 star hotels will host events on occasion and advertise in Bangkok Post and The Nation - should look at for them.

    Hope that helps!

  8. The universities of Thailand have already agreed to move to a western school year calendar - to help transition to the ASEAN community education better. I would imagine primary and secondary schools will eventually follow suit

  9. "...................

Any good suggestions/advice and don't tell me to cut my losses and run. I have loved this woman for two years now. and still do, although I may be a fool."

Cut your losses and run, quickly...... As to the last part, you are absolutely correct (unless you are a troll, which would be my guess).

I am not a troll and a member for over 3 years, If you have followed my posts I was maried to a girl in Korat who sold the wedding ring after a month. There were many posts about that. Why would I waste my time, I have no foreigners in this village to talk to and I am the only foreigner at the schools I teach, so no friends there. The reason I made this post.

Perhaps you need to review your personal decision making skills - they seem to be a little frayed...
