  1. As I`ve posted several times before (and need to be careful to avoid getting it deleted). The upward movement in the Thai economy is almost certain to come to an end sooner rather than later, and the baht will weaken with it. This is because -

    1) Thailand is in the midst of a credit bubble, similar to Ireland and Spain 10 years ago. Money for cars and homes is far to easy to get, with little thought as to if you can pay it back or not. This has actually been highlighted by banks already with credit restrictions starting to be implemented in some areas. This bubble will soon burst.

    2) Since its move from absolute monarchy just 80 years ago Thailand has had an astonishing 18 coups. It is simply inconceivable there wont be another soon.

    3) A certain event I cannot mention will trigger point 2.

In short hand the upward movement of the baht relies on a stable political and economic background. Thailand hasnt had this in the 80 years of its existence (since it changed its name from Siam) so god knows why all you people think it will now.

Funny - when I arrived in Thailand in 2003 the baht was at 41-42 to 1US. 10 years is a a mighty long bubble.....lol Should I hold my breath?

  2. Why would it be a reminder that you are living in a third world county? The majority of populace in western countries live "paycheck to paycheck" with little or no savings. Paycheck stops, they are in trouble.

Does the OP not recognize this in his own country or origin?

  3. This thread is like a train wreck, but at least train wrecks get cleared eventually - the OP still hasnt caught a taxi to the airport.-Current ETA is 5-8 weeks, so rather than holding your breath, feel free to simply not follow the thread anymore.

Does that mean we get to enjoy 5-8 more weeks of this thread's verbal diarrhea? Oh Joy :)

  4. Good theory. I have often observed the corollary that dishonorable people cannot comprehend that they are surrounded by honorable people. Those who are not trustworthy think that those around them cannot be trusted.

    Very very true.

I have friends that constantly talk about how they want to go into business with me, but on the other hand have always bragged about how they've scammed people they've been in business with in the past.

And then can't understand why I don't express enthusiasm about partnering with them. . .

Knowing your failing with financial issues and bad money management, I know exactly why they want to go into business with you lol.

  5. Thais think that "sexpats" are just normal men with normal desires that are willing to pay for them.

And if you mean "sexpat" as described in the OP, most Thais would find that sort of person - one whose sole purpose to he here is open and unashamed mongering at all hours - quite distasteful.

Au contraire. Most of them would not even notice that such people exist unless they read about them on websites oriented towards foreigners like Thai Visa.

They know they exist - they are just too polite to comment lol

  6. 12 pages, over 48 hours and you still aren't on a plane. Hmm .....

As I've said many times, it'll be at least a month maybe two, can't get a new passport nor take care of the complex issues wrt the ex-wife overnight. . .

    > Well you put up with a lot of crap from some posters here in a calm and collected manner. Good luck, and I'll say again , don't let the kids get out of your care.

Thanks much, and you're right that has certainly been priority #1 in my book all along.

I plan to get certified English translations of the documents she signed wrt my having sole custody and giving up all parental rights under Thai law, and get her to sign those again before we leave.

I have nightmares about her next husband being one of those real shark divorce/litigation attorneys in my mum's home jurisdiction. She is that intelligent, unfortunately that's a weak part of my taste in SO's. . .

Why are you still here feeding this thread - go out and earn some money to help your family. You aren't making money by feeding the TV barstool warriors...

  7. ^ That's very difficult if your only language is English. One would have to engage the service of a translator, which would become quite expensive, in the long run, perhaps even more so if you were using a Thai partner as go-between. Which leads us to the point of why the Op is most probably posting, asking for help finding an apartment, here on Thaivisa.com and not Pantip.com, where the foremost language medium used is the Thai language

Also, I've found some quite good long term housing rental bargains at Mrroomfinder.com. Rather a lot cheaper than a Thai rental website with the added bonus of having an English speaking landlord, sympathetic to western rental norms.

Remember, we must stick to writing in English language only, here at this website.

Perhaps I shouldn't have assumed that the OP's reference to a GF was a Thai, which is why I specifically mentioned having her take the lead in their neighborhood perambulations.

I've found it easy to hire a native Thai speaker, whether by the hour day or week well worth the investment for this kind of project, remember every 8% saved off the rental price equals a free months' rent per year.

And I've found "an English speaking landlord, sympathetic to western rental norms" only comes with grossly overpriced real estate targeted at foreigners, which is exactly what I'm talking about avoiding.

I'm starting to think perhaps you're in the business?

Once again my recommendation, with which I have found great success to the point that the rents I've quoted have been met with mocking disbelief here on TV.com is to follow the methods I've outlined above.

Judging by your circumstances outlined in your other tread - I don' think you are in any position to offer anyone advice on anything.

  8. I just tell them in Thai that I want to look by myself and they usually back off. Once in a while one will keep standing around and I say the same thing again, but a little more forcefully and they go away. It always works for me.

A lot of people (most) don't know how to say that in Thai UG, hence the frustration.

But since they don't put in any time to learn it either, their frustration is just funny, and subject to snarky remarks tongue.png
