ABS will make a lot of difference. Been riding for 20 years and I thought I didn't need ABS, until last month when I locked my PCX's brakes and skidded on the road.

Get the ADV or the used Forza.

As has been mentioned several times before , if the Hondas "ABS" system has Hondas CBS - where the front brakes comes on even when you only apply the rear brake - any safety benefits seem to be wiped out.

  2. Yamaha have 3 Filano models. The regular at 52K , the hybrid at 55K and the hybrid , with ABS , at about 60K. ABS is anti lock braking. A good safety system to have on bikes , if available. Do not confuse real ABS with Hondas CBS system , which many experienced riders agree offers little in the way of safety.

It’s not a marketing gimmick. The electric motor provides for quicker starts and more responsive acceleration. Whether or not that’s important to you, and whether the loss of underseat storage is an issue for you, is your call. Is the extra HP and torque “worth” an additional 12,000 baht? Up to you. For me, yes.

is it a “real” bike? Well, it’s the perfect bike for Chiang Mai, IMO, so whatever.

Rather than spend an extra 12,ooo Baht on a 99,000 Baht Honda "hybrid" , have you considered the Yamaha Grand Filano. Their hybrid only costs an extra 3K , at just 55K. And its available with real ABS.

I used to go to Coventry (home of the (Coventry Bees?) for the stock cars. Another sport that could be suited to Thailand but...

When Thais realise that speedway is ideally suited to gambling.............

I went to Coventry a few times in the early to mid 80,s. Hednesford Hills in Cannock for the stock cars and bangers. Birmingham Wheels track sometimes. Still go to watch some races if in England at the time of the big races. The price of second hand cars may prevent banger racing.

  5. Many Hondas arent made by Honda , or for the world market. This bike is one of them. Engine could be similar to an XR 250/400. Another Brazil bike is the  CRF230F. The Kawasaki KLX 250 is 30-40 KGs lighter and may be a better choice , but as you already have a CRF , use that. Common and east to fix.

Aerox customers are more sports and technically minded. If not they would have bought NMax.

Yes , these sporty scooters can be modified by the more technically minded/sporty riders. Thats not a OEM quality issue. Thats performance modifications/customising. I dont recall any owners having to change brakes/suspension on Yamahas because they have had to , due to poor quality.  I havent asked/met all Yamaha owners in Thailand ! . If the standard quality  shocks arent good enougth for the OP , then change them for YSS , as i have known many Honda owners have had to do. I havent spoke to/met  all Honda owners in Thailand ! .

Why insist on buying OEM if other options are available and the price are almost the same?

I just don't understand all the fuss..

Buying OEM Honda just means your replacing your poor suspension shock with a newer poor quality shock. OEM may be cheaper though.

Depends on the model. A while ago i had a PCX 150 2013, the shocks on this bike were indeed poor and wobbled alot, didn't take long for me to replace them. Currently i have a Honda Wave 125 2019, the shocks on this bike work quite well, even two up. Before i bought it i thought i would have to replace them, but now i think they are ok.

I can of course not directly compare the two bikes anymore, but imho the shocks on the 2019 Wave are way better than the shocks on the 2013 PCX.

Yes , many who buy a Honda anticipate having to change various components in order to bring it up to "standard".  Some models more so than others. Maybe they have started to improve quality.

Well I found some at a Shell petrol
station priced @ 410 baht per liter...does it last 4 times as long as regular dino oil ?

Its much higher quality , if your in a hot climate , or using your engine hard , many say , including me , its worth it. For the first 5 years i was using Elf/Total fully synthetic 10/50. 280 Baht ?.  Now its Shell Ultra.

Thank you. I will study this later , but in the first few lines , it admits the massive negative environmental impact  of polluted waterways and de-forestation. A few lines further down it says bio diesel is fine for Caterpillar / John Deere tractors etc , but car companies haven fully agreed.  Id rather not use it , but if B10 is all thats available , i will end up driving a very polluting vehicle after 30K.

  11. Even the most modern of diesel engines will have expensive problems if they use B10 , or even worse , B20.  The "B" is oil (palm/maze/rape) , and trying to burn it causes the EGR , DPF units to clog/gum up , in as few as 30K. This oil addative idea really hasnt been thought through . To keep the engines running , it will be back to the days of de-coking. Not a step forward.  This is beside the forest devastation being caused by the burning , to make way for the palm plantations.

Easy fix for that - as discussed on AU and UK forums

Agree. It may be possible. But i have still to find a "before and after" dyno chart , detailing the improvement up to 40 BHP.  And the prices and availability of all the parts required , in Thailand. Could you point me in the right direction please.

  13. I would have expected the Yamaha to be about 420K. Its at least as good as the AT , but 30KG lighter.  I just checked the price list of the AT.  580,000 Baht  !!!.  Fell off my chair. And dont forget the Honda "dealers" will often charge even more than the recommended price.  Ive often found the Hondas to be overpriced by about 40%.  Yamaha are both cheaper , and of better quality.  Now lets hope some new models around 400/450 come out. Not counting the 25 BHP Honda CRF 450 , at whatever the price is.
