20 years later... came back to have a look
kickstart replied to Zendesigner's topic in General Topics
On my desk top I have adblockers, on my mobile I do not, the few times I look at AN on the mobile it is just about impossible to use, full of adverts spend more time deleting the adverts than looking at AN, and yes, they do take up a lot of space. -

You just put me back 40 years when I use to use Chestnut fencing posts on the farm, as you said they will outlast us and that is untreated. Re pressure treated pine post I have used them for fencing they will last a good few year's ordinary pine posts in the ground will only last a year before rotting out, just like using Eucalyptus post in the ground over here they just rot out. Treated pine posts, here ,no hope.

New one for me, as I said before most Napier is now Packchon or Packchon II ,it might be Napier variety, but where can you find it . My Napier is Napier Taiwan, have had it for some years now we make silage out of it, now not easy to find, and it makes better silage than Packchon. Have a look at Elephant Grass, similar to Napier but can be higher yielding, but does not like waterlogging, so not a good grass for growing in old rice fields that could well become waterlogged.

Citizens Await Digital Money, Hoping to Boost Economy
kickstart replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Two hopes no hope and Bob Hope, it has been worked out they is not enough money, almost in the country to pay for it, as they will find this out next year, when as has been said, it will be paid, then it will we made a mistake and cannot pay for it. I know you can say it will help the economy, but with us livening in a rural area it will be our local town, that is about 7 km, with two 7-11's and now a very expensive CJ, never mind we still have 3 shops selling mobile phones, if they allow this digital wallet to be used to buy things like this. -
The Official Maize and Rotational Crops Thread
kickstart replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Farming in Thailand Forum
Welcome back, you have not missed a lot especially the rain, this month so we have had 20 mm, with no more immanent the weatherman said it will rain but non so far for us, it seems the North is getting it all. Maize crops are coming it to flower, no rain no pollen, so a few crops are being cut for cattle feed, a few crops that have had enough rain are being combined yields not so good price is about 7 baht /kg not certain, but moisture will not be that high. See a lot of drones about spraying for Fall Army Worm, cost now is about 90 baht/rie, about the only thing that has come down in price! Some cassava crops have died, mainly the ones that were not irrigated, the ones that where are looking well, a lot about this year price will be down, now it seems harvesting is almost all the year round, use to be a cool season job. Not a lot of rain cane is growing, still a way to go, but yields are likely to be down. -
If you go to AN's Maize and Rotational crop thread page 14, they are post posts they about a biogas plant. One thing Nappier is not grown from seed, but from root stock., the main variety is Packchon II.

Rice prices spike threatens farmers in Thailand
kickstart replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If they are any left, by the time they have paid off all they debts, and this year not a lot a lot of rain, central regen, lower yields, and higher cost to pump water into the rice fields, like the wife's son in law and daughter, and others, are doing. And how much will the new government pay the farmers in subsidies, if any. -
What Songs Do You Rush to Switch the Sound Off?
kickstart replied to Neeranam's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
For me would be Shead O'Conner Nothing compares 2U, the original by Prince was miles better, the 2U, she was taking the Mickal out of U2, my favorite band. And nothing to do with the fact, that was number one the day my ex walked out the door. And anything by Michael Jackson, and Wham, and Geoge Mickael is not far behind. -

Thai it up: Weather officials forecast downpour throughout Thailand
kickstart replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I hope so here in Lopburi province we are almost is a drought, a lot of rice crops have yet to be sown, crops of maize and cassava are dying from lack of water, sugar cane is not growing no rain. This is about the third or fourth report saying heavy rain is due, if it is, it is missing us out. The Pasak Jolasid dam one of the biggest in the region has shut all its gates not letting any water out trying to conserve what water they is. June and July we had 110mm of rain, last June/ July 237 mm of rain defiantly an El Nimo year. -
I have thought that, the gray stone I get, literally coms from a mountain near Saraburi, just north of Bangkok the same sauce half of Bangkok is built of, I have been told it is granite. I know what you mean gravel that comes from a pit, like in the UK, weather the fact that that Thailand is tropical country and does not have the soil type for gravel, I could not say
-
Been busy ,I am in Lopburi, a long way from you, that is way I did not put in my location.

Normale, it is in our area, sold by the cube, our place where we get it from is only 6 km from us, we got some 2 months ago 500 baht/cube delivered .
-
That depends on where you live, you need to find a dairy cow area, they will have some shops selling Soya bean meal, I live in a big dairy cow area, and we have 3 places that sell SBM two of them also mix cattle feed.

Construction innovation with the longest concrete beams in Thailand
kickstart replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That length of beam will be built on site. It will be trying to lift all that weight at the same time you will need a lot of cranes all working together, that will be the fun bit. -
I had a T100R at the same time, they were built before the lock in at Meriden ,then sold afterwards, mine had the long cone exhorts, with a twin leaning shoe front brake only ever saw one disc brake modal I thought the owner did the conversion, not a factory job. The engine was no problem leaked a bit of oil, it was the electrics that were the problem use to eat CB points, and of cause Lucus lights, Prince of Darkness, as I found out on more than one occasion. Back to the op, a local bike shop, what 18 months ago had a SR 400 in a new one I think it was 160 000 ish baht.

Rice prices skyrocket in Thailand due to drought effects and export ban
kickstart replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That is correct, it happened 10-12 years ago? a world shortage of rice a blip in the trade for a few months. So, Thailand just exported more, just thinking how much money the exporters could make, and the rice price for the domestic market increased, a lot of people were not happy. History about to repeat itself. -
The Official Farm Photos Thread
kickstart replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Farming in Thailand Forum
Two firsts here, first time I have seen baled silage in Thailand. The farm is a large by Thai standards, the owner was not they when I asked about them, just the guys who milk the cows I said what grass did you use, they said it is not grass but corn/maize, that is the second first, never seen baled raped maize silage before They said a company did the job, they did not know who, the baler, rapper and plastic wrap would all be imported, these bales must weigh 500kg each. I have often thought rapped baled silage is the way to go, you can get mini bales would work well for your small farms.
