  1. Were that to happend in the USA, then it's highly likely that they would have been shot.
  2. Those people who broke into the airbase should have been shot on sight. Their acts were actions of terrorists.
  3. Similar to my last sojourn in Luang Prabang, I'm on the west side of town, near the sports stadium, and within walking distance (2km for exercise) of the peninsula. Luang Prabang is my 'home' between my working and charity work in Myanmar. I'm waiting on a work visa to get back into Myanmar but it's taking some time....
  4. Dear Swissie I can assure you that I'm very happy relaxing in Luang Prabang, or dodging the bullets and bombs in Myanmar 🙂 My brother is a geneology specialist in his retirement, and apart from getting paid to trace the ancestry of others, he has been working through our own family tree. It's very interesting to find out facts about ancestors long-departed. I remember (just about), my maternal grandmother who lived out her old age in Greece. She was descended from Ashkenazi Jews from Romania, and my comment about Israel's Right of Return for her offspring was simply a point of interest (for me), and a 'baiting' comment for this forum! A more recent memory is that my father attended the Nurenburg trials, as chief coder for Churchill, sending back coded messages of the daily events...
  5. I mention this just out of interest (for me). Dr Google AI suggests that it is a solid case if one grandparent was Jewish (and provable). The good Dr says I can be non-Jewish or other faith or no faith at all - that's not relevant. But again - just an interesting fact in my family tree.

They can move VERY fast on a tiled floor - I had to jump up on a chair in Phuket when one came towards me at lightning speed!
  7. Interesting. Although I consider myself to be 'English', my middle brother has done extensive family ancestor research. My grandmother (who I vaguely remember when I was about 12 years old) was 100% an Ashkenazi Jew. Under Israel's Right of Return law, it seems that I would have the legal right to an Israeli passport and to settle in Israel 🙂
  8. Bob, how do you get away with it? I mean making up new accounts every other week..... and why?.....
  9. Wow, that is so sad! Did you cry a bit when you saw that man? Now I'll lie awake tonight crying about that poor man....
  10. How can someone with member #7184 be a TV/AN member for 25 years? I'm #184 and have been a member for only 22 years 🙂
  11. Hmm, "I won almost....' is not the same as "I almost won ....."
  12. China has some very important interests in Myanmar, from the various gemstone mines in the north to the important gas/oil pipeline linking the Indian Ocean port to mainland China. IMHO, that pipeline, which stretches hundreds of km across Myanmar is a clear weak point and impossible to defend if local ethnic groups want to damage it. It's a good 'bargaining chip' for these ethnic groups.
  13. TBH, most foreign volunteers would have a hard job translating into Thai, (based on my yonks of experience working as a TPV)...
  14. This is Thailand, a majority-Buddhist country, with different attitudes to nudity than France. Did she show the hotel her plans before she made the mural? I suspect not.
  15. I understand that the damage was only at one end of the viaduct and was not serious, and that it has already been repaired, but I don't think any trains are travelling across the viaduct, due to nearby fighting.
  16. You're right! They let you in.....
  17. Top bloke that President Trump.... Did you hear me? TOP BLOKE THAT PRESIDENT TRUMP!! Now where are my flight tickets?.....
  18. A bit of common sense is needed. If you already have a pre-existing condition, why would any insurer want to pick up the tab for when you need medical treatment for that condition? If you shop around, you should find insurance but it will exclude all pre-existing conditions, unless those conditions have been 'dormant' for many years. (Insurance companies are businesses, not charities).
  19. Top bloke that Tommy! Good for him to stand up to the corrupt UK police, politicians and judicary. Every day more and more citizens in the UK are realising just how corrupt the whole bunch are. Tommy is a journalist (yes he is!), and by not unlocking his phone, he is protecting one of his confidential sources.
  20. It's relevant - check the post about Israelis in Pai 🙂
  21. This woman is one of those troublesome Brazilians who are flooding the unspoilt city of Pattaya. I hear that there are at least 30,000 of this nationality within the city boudaries, and that they intend to create a new city for Brazilians, a-la 'Brasilia' model......
  22. But you're part of the problem! You're a foreigner. Why don't you go home and leave Thailand to the Thais?
  23. Nope, it's you that dislike them....... Israelis, like Brits and Yanks etc can occasionally cause problems. Do you think that Thailand should ban Brits or Germans? You seem to have a personal grudge against Israelis.....
  24. So funny reading all you lefties squirming and refusing to utter the words 'Thank you President Trump'.... The fact is, like him or hate him, Trump gets things done and he doesn't care if he upsets liberals and wokes on the way. Wish we had a leader like him in the UK.
  25. I use ChatGPT to create simple pictures that I can use in my online primary science lessons, such as: Can you please draw a picture of a boy pushing another boy who is sitting on a trolley. Thanks. (I just asked ChatGPT to create this image to use in a lesson about Simple Machines). But why am I saying 'please' and 'thanks'?! It's an AI!!! If the AI creates the kinds of image that I need, I also say 'thanks' lol..... Perhaps I should also ask how his/her/its day has been.....
