  1. I use Facebook for some technical and travel groups. I care not one jot about wokeness, trends or upsetting snowflakes due to my straight-talking. If they burst into tears or cancel me when I speak the truth then that's their problem and certainly not mine. I do follow current affair/news websites if only for a bellyful of laughs at how fcuked up the politicians in ALL countries are. A bunch of corrupt, self-serving, virtual-signalling idiots the lot of them. I'm very happy with my own, stress-free life, doing hobbies that I enjoy and meeting good friends. I can't change the world and I'm not going to waste my time trying!
  2. Yep, that's probably the reason. Pity I can't install Windows 7 (much less bloated OS than the more recent Windows OS)
  3. Sorry, of course I meant the task manager ???? I ran the command line RestoreHealth and this seemed to reduce the CPU load. I ran wpd app and disabled all under the privacy settings. No change to the CPU load. If I examine the task manager most CPU load seems to be taken up by 'Antimalware Service Executable' and Microsoft Edge. @NextG, your arrogant 'I know all and you know nothing' attitude is not really helpful. I've put you on ignore and will consider the constructive comments from other posters.
  4. I'll try this out. The SSD was installed a few months ago.
  5. As mentioned, there are absolutely no issues with the SSD - it is maybe 95% empty.....
  6. The SSD is a recent upgrade to the old HDD and it was formatted and installed with Windows 10. It runs much faster than the old HDD and there are very few apps installed on this SDD.
  7. It's a SSD. SSD or HDD is irrelevant for my post. I already mentioned that the memories are under very light load - the laptop is not having to write/read from the SDD (or HDD) because it has enough RAM for continuous operation. The only item under heavy load is the CPU - see my screengrab below. When I say that it is my backup laptop, it is used every day and so it's not a question of waiting for Edge/Microsoft to load/update - the computer is running for maybe 18 hours every day. Thanks for the Slimjet suggestion - I'll try this.
  8. The RAM is not a problem - the RAM usage/load is never more than 50%.
  9. Yep, that may be it >> Windows 10 running on an older machine. For the apps that I need I could run something like puppylinux. Perhaps I'll install Puppy on a USB stick, boot from that stick and then look at the task window (is there one in Puppy?) to show the CPU load.
  10. The app you linked to is useful and I downloaded it. But it doesn't seem to show what services I can disabled without any negative effect on my laptop. For example, there are more than a dozen ServiceHost services running. Can I disable any of them? How do I know which are not needed (if any)?
  11. My SSD has about 80% free space and the load on it is about 5%. As for service running in the task bar, of course there are many, but I have no ideas which ones need to be running for correct laptop operation. (Is there an app that will disable any services that are not needed?)
  12. Naturally I have already checked the task bar for active apps. Apart from Microsoft Edge, there are none. (Is there an alternative browser that uses less CPU resources?)
  13. This is my back-up laptop. It has an Intel Celeron N3060 CPU at 1.6GHz, 2 core, an SSD hard disk drive and 4GB of RAM. There are no start-up apps running and I am only running Microsoft Edge browser. My antivirus software finds no viruses.... However, although the memory and disk usage is very low, the CPU load is typically between 80-100% and I'm not sure why! Surely a laptop of this type should be able to run an internet browser without hitting 100% CPU load. Any suggestions what might be causing this problem or things to check etc? Thanks.
  14. I've still got some XRP that I bought in 2018. This recent price increase means that I'm only 50% down on my investment!
  15. I have the same problem, so it might be useful for you to link to the other thread if you can.
  16. Please explain, especially with reference to the density of fresh water, salt water and the human body (with and without air in the lungs) etc.
  17. No problem, no onward ticket required, get your 30-day visa on arrival at Vientiane immigration.
  18. Luckily, apart from excluding the 8-year condition, my cover was accepted at normal rates.
  19. When I recently applied for medical insurance, (after my existing provider cancelled my policy for failing to declare a pre-existing condition from some 8 years ago), I declared EVERY medical condition and treatment that I have had from 11 years old........ ????
  20. (Also just added one idiot who is trying to mess up this positive thread to my ignore list)
  21. Amateur radio (I'm living in Laos right now, so am about the only shortwave radio ham) Building and testing different antennas Receiving pictures from the various weather satellites and international space station.
  22. He would probably accused the OP of trying to b*gger him!!
  23. My understanding is that in order to extricate the woman from the escalator, the trauma team decided to amputate her leg, but that this was then reattached in the hospital.
  24. I don't play golf, never have. I wasn't aware that one was even allowed to use any form of mechanical or electronic aid. IMHO, ALL such devices should be banned. If you can't estimate the distance, go get some better glasses!
