Considering I have spent the last 7 years building and running 35+ websites I think I have a pretty decent grasp on this whole interwebs thing

If you don't think Googs search results have fallen off after the past few years you aren't paying attention

A couple of off the top of my head recent examples, Googling 'how many days is 90 days from April 7th' and being told August 11th  (they gave me the business days without stating it was business days and when I hadn't asked for business days)

For a website guru you aren't paying attention.
I think most people know that normally the first 4 or so answers are sponsored sites so are to be dismissed.
Be more patient and read a little further down. The first few actually state they are referring to business days so you should dismiss them. Under that is the answer you're looking for ..... I personally think that Giggle has improved by giving me more options to answers on general questions.

You sound just like my impatient Canadian neighbour!

  2. I've just got back from my local Bangkok Bank branch up in the boonies.
Up to the desk and asked for facial recognition for my account. I was not informed about this, I was in the area on other business requiring my passport so decided to drop in.

    • Passport and bank book required.
    • Copies of both were done and a form to be filled out with current phone number, all to be signed.
    • Check that you have access to mobile banking.
    • Photo taken by desk webcam.

I asked about internet banking and she told me that it is not affected, it's only for mobile banking.

    On a side note:

At my branch you can open an account with a pink I.D. Card or passport with no problems. If using the I.D. Card the account details (name) is written in  Thai whereas using a passport it's in English.
I.M.O. It's easier to use a passport as there can be no confusion that it's for a foreigner. I've seen problems at immigration because an account name was in Thai for a foreigner!

  3. I've bought a couple of bikes from a local Yamaha dealer, including an Aerox.
On both occasions they wouldn't budge from the listed price but it was an 'on the road' price with the usual freebies :
Crash helmet (full face with Aerox) , rubbish rain jacket and maybe a rice cooker!

It took 45 days to get the book, plates and tax disc with Gov. insurance. All was dated from the day I took the bike so I was covered by the mandatory insurance.

You know that draught Guinness is available almost everywhere now, yes?  What's so revelatory about bringing some cans here?

Canned Guinness is not available in Thailand, don't bother looking.   However, cold, draught Guinness is available in hundreds of bars.

It might be in the tourist cities but certainly nowhere to be seen up here in the 'boonies' at any provincial city I've visited.

By the way, I never mentioned cans .......

  5. On a side note:

I haven't had a cold Guinness since I was last in Bangkok over 5 years ago! I miss it sooooooo much.

The only decent supermarket we have nearby is a small Tops in Robinsons and they don't stock it.

Does anyone know if the Tops in Khon Kaen or indeed anywhere nearby stock the black nectar?

  6. I buy frozen peaches / apricots / mandarins / various other fruits to bottle from Makro. The glass jars I use come from the family and neighbours who eat jams and assorted pastes etc. All jars and lids are boiled in water / vinegar solution before use.

Although I devote a whole shelf in the fridge to my delights, I could store the bottled fruits in a cupboard. When the fruits are cooling down (in iced water) you can hear the seal of the lid 'pop' tight shut and the button goes down forming a vacuum. When in season, I also pickle several kilos of beetroot, onions, small cucumbers etc.

I've got the time and enthusiasm to enjoy the fruits of my labour! ????

Yes I just bought and used. 69 baht from memory, compared to this mentioned above which is 289 - but doesn't need mixing or water.........

Is 4 x the price worth it?

Have you previously used the powder products so can you compare @Madgee ?

    1. Not really. But I was grouting small areas on different days so it was worth it for the convenience.
    2. Yes, I've used various small bags of coloured powdered grout with ok results.
    3. I found the quality of weber ready mix superb.

I've been there done that while we're together 19+ years we did have legal will  "if she passed first " would go to me to live in even though property was in her name , just in case family members decided in trying to claim ! under thai law at that time ! l would  have to sell property and house for memory as foreigner l could not own land house no issue ! We did divorce my fault not hers , never bothered about house was all part of our divorce settlement agreement  was very ammicable " I contested Zero nor did she her land originally from her mother, After land split between siblings years prior to mom death land title was in her family name & transferred later to her married  name  All land was gifted from mother to her , way l looked at it was her land anyway not mine ! family land to keep, House yes we built the house improved property considerably & once divorce , l moved on we had no children if we did have 99% she would of without hesitation place property in kids names .. You could ask your soon to be ex " IF Willing to place  house in both your kids names ? Next property I bought went via: lawyer advice started a  company & purchased land , motor bikes etc, all through company must have 3 x Thais 1 or 2% can't really remember correct % amount  but could never be voted out or off land we did have have quarterly company meetings informally ! no big deal land could not be taken off me via % thai low in company by thai law ! no choice must have legal % of Thais involved " Sorry for long story no issues once l sold land later on , or you can set up leasing contract 30 + years land & house !, Considering you have kids together it's roof over your kids heads " before yours ! No difference in west lose up to 75% + in family law courts  of everything you own prior or during marriage especially with kids involved ! my opinion let it go & move on ..

    Don't worry folks ........
I've sent it to Bletchley Park, they're working flat out on it now!   :coffee1:

  10. Yes you can!
It's called DTAC Net Immortal 365 days.

Unlimited data ........ Various speeds at various prices.

I prefer to use just one sim for all my needs. If there was a huge price difference between keeping the same number (over 10 years now) and using a separate sim just for internet usage I might consider it. I use the unlimited 10mbps deal which has been superb for all my needs.

    JMHO.
