  1. My old Swedish friend and I used to try guessing where farang were from, just by looking (and listening) Socks & sandals "probably British" ???? I found the hardest to be eastern Europeans due to their unintelligible languages! ????????
  2. None whatsoever... Been there, seen it, done it, bought loads of T-shirts.
  3. No sour grapes at all when the libido has been disappearing anyway. For the last 5 years that I lived in Thailand I never bothered with that stuff.
  4. First visited Thailand 85 and 86. Lived there 1998-2018. Only my thoughts on the bar girl thing is that it's 'too easy' a thing to do, there's no 'value' in doing it. In later years I never bothered.
  5. Easy to meet Thai women with ordinary jobs (ie not bar girls) on the many internet dating sites, as I'm sure you know.
  6. Ex girlfriend worked as a hotel receptionist, now works at the Land Office.
  7. They won't execute him, but he had better get used to fish heads & rice (gruel) to eat. Could be losing a lot of weight!?
  8. I don't think Thailand ever executed a Farang. Also I think they have a moratorium on the death penalty anyway.
  9. There used to be an Uzbek hookerq (way past her prime) hanging out outside Coffee World, corner of Sukh Soi 7/1 BKK.
  10. Thai libel laws. I notice that when someone falls from a high building (and dies) in Thailand the building is never identified. I believe that this is done so as not to fall foul of libel laws?
  11. "The Sun" used to shift 3+ million copies a day, but that didn't make it 'good'?
  12. "Elvis became a parody of himself".
  13. I remember many years ago in King Bhumibol's time the King's birthday was a no drink day. Then one day he hinted that he wanted everyone to have a good time on his birthday. It ceased to be a no drink day.
  14. This is why Air B & B was/is illegal in Thailand. For a room to be let out for less than 30 days it must be in a building that's registered as a hotel.
  15. Canada just extradited one of their's to Thailand. (Thailand gave assurances that there would be no death penalty).
  16. He could do exactly the same thing in poorer parts of Thailand and be just as popular? Remember that Thailand's still a relatively poor country. Part of why he was so unpopular with some in Thailand was because he was seen to be a champion of the poor?
  17. Will he fly into Bangkok, or to the north where he was/is extremely popular?
  18. Easy to say with hindsight, but what if the cops were talkng about this going to court, with the possibility of a spell in the monkey-house?????! 40k Baht, just under £1,000, I think I would take that offer.
  19. I liked Nong Khai town, spent a few nights there many years ago.
  20. I lived in Thailand from 1998-2018, I had also visited 3 times in 1985/86. Initially I was over at Soi Cowboy pretty much every night, but probably around 2005 I didn't really bother with it any more. I became quite cynical about that stuff. It was getting a bit too expensive, the girls weren't really into what they were doing anyway, and I didn't want to be hassled whilst drinking. In the last 10 years that I lived there I hardly ever went to such places, but a wealthy friend was still visiting nightly, as if he had first got off the plane on his first visit to Thailand 17 years earlier.
  21. When I worked in Saudi I had a Syrian friend/colleague who lived in Beirut. He was not able to visit Syria for either 5 or 10 years because he was dodging the draft. After that he could return and pay a $10,000 fine and everything would be ok. (this was many years before the war in Syria) It would seem that the draft is unpopular wherever it is. Also, many regular soldiers do not want colleagues serving with them who obviously do not want to be there.
