  1. In years to come, and when and if tourist numbers become excessive, I could see Thailand starting to require an e-visa before travel for most countries. In the UK we have the DBS system to help filter out crims/undesirables. A recent figure suggests that the ratio of tourists to residents in Phuket is 118:1.
  2. Looking back I would've probably chosen to live in Jomtien rather that Pattaya. In my 20 years in Bangkok I lived within a 20 minute walk of Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza, but in the last 5 years I hardly ever visited, no longer interested in that stuff.
  3. The last time I was there J B wasn't quite as downmarket as P B?
  4. Another Pro Tip: Smashing a bottle over someone's head could kill them!
  5. Rather like Pattaya, such places attract trashy people from all over the world. How do I know, I have been there often, but in my later years in Thailand I didn't.
  6. It's very hard to embrace plus size, unless you have arms like a gibbon!😆
  7. My old Thai friend would be in his 80's now, he said when he was a kid, 1950's, it was one day, and just sprinkling drops of water.
  8. I lived in Bangkok from 1998-2018, and Thailand will always be a very special place for me. But the only time of year that I didn't want to be there was Songkhran week! IMHO, a real pain in the ***.
  9. As well as impaired driving from booze/drugs.
  10. I accept that, but it's the millions of the Thais driving who shouldn't be that worry me!
  11. No, I'm talking motorbikes. Also, I lived in Bangkok, crazy traffic.
  12. Yes, holiday islands/resorts maybe not so bad, but I lived in Bangkok for 20 years😊
  13. RIP, way too young. In my 20 years there I avoided riding on motorbikes, the roads are just too dangerous to be on 2 wheels.
  14. Imagine doing manual work in that heat.
  15. James Baker, some say the best man not to be President of the USA.🙂
  16. Worrying! My Brit compatriots need to raise their game!😁
  17. I experienced a tremour in Papua New Guinea when I worked there. My job was to run a seismograph, some days I saw natural seismic activity several times. I also recorded a quake in Iran, whilst working in Saudi. The Tsunami earthquake came through loud & proud on our instrument, 4500 miles away.
  18. Bangkok isn't deemed to be in an earthquake zone though?
  19. Besides the collapsed building, are there reports of many damaged buildings in Bangkok?
  20. I lived alone there for 20 years. When I left I took £60k with me.
  21. I can see that you're not bright enough to discuss this. "anyting"! "dyslexic"😁
  22. Erm....we're talking about numbers of Chinese people visiting Thailand, and how long they stay, it's very relevent. Especially when there are 1,500 million Chinese people in China.
  23. The difference being is that once admitted to the UK it can be impossible to make them leave/deport them, even when they turn out to be criminals. Thailand's free to deport whomever it chooses.
  24. Thailand will eventually have to restrict the number of arrivals from India and China, 3 billion people living within 5 hours flying time of Thailand. For many of them it's the same kind of journey as flying from the UK to Greece, not that far/short haul, as flying goes.
  25. Free trade is going to involve not putting a 300% import tax on luxury cars?
