I am coming on visit to Chiangmai next month. I have refernce to a German Micro Brewery in Ratebeer website. The address given is 345 Moo4 Chiangmai-Lampang Road, which I deduce is in the Nong Pa Krang area but Google Maps can not find it. Nor is the location map accurate (it send me to a residential area.)
Please , sombody give me accurate direction starting from a landmark like BigC or the Railway station. Thanks

I cannot comment on the CNN interview since I have no access to domestic TV in the USA. However the BBC interview seemed mild compared with what he could have faced from one of the UK domestic presenters such as John Humphreys or Jeremy Paxman

First check that all the bolts fixing the disc to the wheel are tightened to the proper torque, then check the disc is true. If the disc is warped try to get it replaced under waranty

They are waiting for an auspicious day. It is also for prestige, the longer they can keep the corpse and the higher the number of monks attending the greater the family face.

Excuse my ignorance, but, who is Owen Wilson?

Chiangmai has quite a big Christian population. They are mainly chinese immigrants or refugees from Chairman Mao. Also the native Thais do not need to belong to a religious group, they will join in any celebration regardless of its origin as long as there is enough Sanuk

I cannot see how the USA is affected except for the win in the USD/THB rate.

Ref. Pisico' s account of encounter with uni graduate. "Thailand has never been divided" only 200 tears ago Thailand consisted of at least 4 separate Kingdoms.

About Democracy or mob rule Khun Voranai of BP wrote a good piece he entitles: Suthep the false prophet.
This morning army chief said: "Soldiers will watch the situation from s distance and allow the political sector to solve their problems among themselves." He added: "The police would not definitely allow the protesters to intrude into Government House, Parliament or Metropolitan Police Bureau headquarters."
Fast forward a few minutes and the BP reports that now "protesters are welcome at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters."
Dysfunctional? That is the best way to describe Thailand if there is not a strongman in power telling the drones what to do and think.
Thai people as a whole as intellectually lazy. Patronage, loss of face, dismal knowledge of their history and a mindset anchored in traditions that are a perfect anachronism compound their inability to be proactive and rationally functional.
They are copiers, repeaters: that is all they know and told to do. There has never been any incentive to create independent thinkers in Thailand. Where are the public libraries built by this or all the previous administrations?
A young university graduate said to me recently trying to explain the reasons for this "revolt" (his word, not mine). "Thaksin wanted to divide Thailand. He wanted to build a canal down south so that ships could go through it on their way to Thailand and other points in Asia." How is that bad? I asked. He was irate, grabbed my arm and said: "what if I cut your arm from the elbow down: would you like it? That would be the same." I am a human being, not a tract of land, I replied. But he was adamant: "Thailand has never been divided or separated. That is bad!" I closed my argument by saying that would have brought revenue to the country as it is the case in Suez and Panama.
He blurted almost in anger: "Suez, Panama: what is that?" This chap is a Thai teacher.
Those who may dispute my comment (and possibly brand me as a Thai basher) I ask them to provide a list of Thais, recipients of a Nobel Prize in any discipline. A list of Thai inventors and what they invented to make of this a better world. A list of writers, artists and philosophers who have contributed to the enlightenment of people the world over with their work and influential thought beyond Thai borders.
By the way, territorial size doesn't matter when it comes to talent, inventiveness and creative intellects. Just think of Great Britain and the plethora of contributions to the whole of humankind. Great Britain is an island and Switzerland is a small landlocked country.
Thailand is.. TIT

I have a permanent travel insurance from my bank for a small monthly fee. It covers me up to 1/4m £ per annum.
Will a Thai hospital treat me via this entry fee or insist I use my insurance? Furthermore, how much of this fee will be diverted into official's pockets? Remember the shortfall of the airport departure tax .

In another report today, Thailand is near the bottom of the list in proficiency in English language. I thought that expertise in ICT needs expertise in English

All airlines have staff trained to look after unaccompanied children provided they are delivered to the checkin and collected at the other end. You must make the arrangement in advance. My daughter travelled many times unaccampanied.

Am I thinking the right way?
If the gov collects 500 baht from 26 million tourists they get 13 billion baht from this but the cost to the gov is only 200 million. That's 65 times more money than they need to pay for the foreigner's medical bills. How can they decide that 500 baht is fair when less than 10 baht would pay for the extra expense to the government?
Also, will they still collect from people who have work visas and Thailand social security who leave for a holiday or something like that? (I read that if you have a work permit you will pay for Thailand SS every month.)
According to the PTP government themselves in various newspapers they plan to collect roughly 10 billion baht/year this way, and they need roughly 300 million baht to cover the hospital bills. They have confirmed that this leaves an estimated 9.7 billion baht, which will be spent elsewhere by the PTP government.
The government has not specified what "elsewhere" means, but given their track record, I think most people are able to figure that out for themselves
How much of it will reach the government coffers?

Not quite on Topic, but where did you get the buffalo excrement?

Is EK THIP (Fatty's) still open? I used to use it a lot but I have not been in Chiangmai for a while.

"Parts of the fees would be used to compensate medical service costs for foreign tourists, Pradit said."
Bullshit!
You must be joking!

Footwear and underwear are diffcult to find in Falang sizes but can be bought on line free of VAT (from UK at least). A good waterproof coat like Drizabone or Barbour. and a couple of good wooly pullovers, it does get cool outside the city. Remeber a wooly for MIL and/or Granny she'll love you for it.
