  1. I tried a few days ago to unfollow a topic. I also inadvertently unsubscribed from receiving newsletters. I have tried to sign up again for newsletters but nothing is being received. How can I get them back. They are are not in the junkbox either.

  2. Does she have an older sibling? I have come across two families where the older, a girl in each case, was a chatterbox and the younger, both boys, almost mute. nI each case the younger only started talking when his older sister went to school. We realized that the older child was doing all the talking for the younger and he got all he wanted without needing to speak. Also he would have found it difficult to get a word in when the sister did all the talking.

  3. Another related thing. After a service, check that all the tools (including jack) are still there, or remove them before taking the vehicle in.

This happened a few years ago in Bahrain. I bought a new Volvo, and took it to the dealer for its 1000km service. It was returned to me minus: spare whee, all tools, jack, and all floor mats.

The dealer swore blind that they had not been in the car when I took it into the workshop. It took a letter to Volvo Customer Services in Sweden before they were all returned by being dumped outside my house.

  4. I have been using the UK Post Office to transfer money to my wife's family in CNX for the last three years. This has consisted of a payment of the same amount every month on or close to the same date every month with the occasional extra transfer for the likes of school fees or other one off needs.

Until May this year, the system was run by HiFX and I have had no problems at all. Then Moneycorp took over. They added an extra security question but system continued as before. Payment in May and June were made as normal.

Three days ago I tried to send money,(slightly more than before due to a birthday) and was meet with this message:

Please note before you trade. For this transfer you are required to provide us documentary evidence explaining the reason of your transfer and source of funds. Your transfer will not be sent if you are unable to provide this.

I tried the telephone helpline but could get no coherent advice on what documentary evidence would be acceptable. I can easily prove the source of funds but I am reluctant to share details of my income with anybody other than my wife and the Inland Revenue.

How I explain the reason for the transfer to their satisfaction is beyond my understanding.

I Emailed their Customer Services and received a phone call from a manager who tried to flannel me without providing any useful advice. However he did inform me that sending a transfer from the same source to the same destination regularly on or about the same date is "suspicious". I do not agree.

In the meantime the account remains blocked until I provide evidence of my Bona Fides.

Are there any members who can advise me?

  6. Tonight's BBC national news: 480000 passport being processed at the moments. i.e a backlog of almost 1/2 million. Extra 100 staff being hired to help, estimated 6 weeks to clear. This is due to the closure of all embassy passport offices. All UK passports are issued now from one place.

  7. I worked in the Gulf for 20 years. The company doctor insisted we all took Paludrine every day and Melaprim? every week. When I moved to Malaysia, the local doctor(Chinese but a graduate of Glasgow Uni.)was horrified, insisting that all anti-malarial drugs were for short term use only and could cause kidney damage if used for a long time. He also said that these drugs were not 100% effective and could cause difficulties in treating a resistant strain by masking the symptoms.

I stopped taking them, and many years later, in spite of getting bitten often (I am a family joke over mosquito bites) I have yet to be infected.
