  1. Could it have been that the aircraft originally earmarked for the flight had a technical fault which was not discovered until the flight crew went through their checks? The first available aircraft was slightly smaller. I think thta the airline behaved well and even gave you compensation. I cannot imagine Thai Airways in the same circumstances doing any more than closing the check in and walking away.

  2. I worked in Malaysia in the early 1980s. Mahathir Mohammed took over as Prime Minister and, in an anti colonial backlash, required all teaching in schools to done in Bahasa Malayu. This annoyed the Chinese, Tamils, Kadasan Dusun, Bajau, etc. because their second language was English. Teaching of English was discouraged and I found many teenagers, who had been taught Mathematics and Science subjects in English, unhappy and anxious to get me to correct their homework. Their textbooks were all in English and Bahasa had not the vocabulary to cope with scientific subjects. Even now they still have to use English for transport matters., Vis- Terren, Peletfom, Bas etc It appears to have now worked through to the latest generation..All in the name of national pride.

  3. My nephew has telephoned my wife with a request for help in obtaining a passport because he wants to work for a huge salary in Taiwan.

After obtaining a passport he will pay an agent to get a work permit and with this he will buy a ticket to Taiwan where he will be able to pick up a " good " job.

    I suspect a Scam.

I remember, that, about 2 months ago, thai press reported that police in Isaan had received complaints from a large number of thais who had paid money to agents who promised similar work in Taiwan.

I think that the same gang is now operating in Chiangmai. Please warn your relatives.

  4. The last time I was in Thailand, I very carefully filled out a TM28 and ensured thatmy sister-in-law, as "housemaster" filled out in a TM30.

We went together to the police station for the ampeunan saw a young lieutenant, who had no idea what we wanted and sent us to the tourist police office in the city. they sent us, with a flea in the ea,r to immigration. After trying 4 offices in the immigration complex and meeting total incomprehension, we left with mission unfulfilled.

  5. Go out Chotana road (hwy 107) to the outer ring road, turn right along it (hwy 121), cross the river and immediately after Pakhoi market, turn right again, turn right immediately after the market and follow that road until you see a migrant workers barracks with a blue tin roof, turn right to pass that roof on your left. Approx 100m on the left you will see a one man coachbuilders business. Ask him.

  6. The purchase might be made from local vehicle companies, because the domestic automobile firms are able to provide the buses at 10 million baht per vehicle, whereas foreign sellers wanted 15 million baht for each vehicle.

A couple things about above statement. 1) I wonder if the Thai built bus would equal the quality level of a foreign built bus, and 2) I wonder if the higher price for a foreign built bus is really a Thai govt self-inflicted cost from import tax.

    No, It is the bung

  7. At that age the starter dog could be worn and jamming. Next time it happens, put the car in 2nd gear, get out and rock it back and forth. You may hear a click as it disengages, If that cures it, then remove the starter and if possible renew the gear on the end.

  8. Anyone know If this service is available to other parts of the UK at different times???

The embassy used to do it every year at Sandy Stewart's garden party at Ardvorlich. This is no longer on going.

I was informed about the visit to Edinburgh by Khun Yut . The embassy's website news page gives some information but you need to keep watching it.

I believe that in the past, visits have been made to Manchester and Newcastle.

  9. My wife's passport had expired. She contacted the Royal Thai Embassy in London (a long distance away!) and was told that, as there was a new issue of passports, she would have to attend in person with the application. However, embassy staff would be visiting Edinburgh (a lot nearer!) in the near future, she could wait and make her application there.

So, she made an appointment for 1600 on Saturday 11 July. She was seen promptly, the process was a bit stop and start as she had to have fingerprints, official photographs, etc taken and all checked. We got away at 1920. There were about 25 applicants still to finish when we left.

I heard later that, over 3 days, 6 embassy staff processed approx 350 applications. The fees were £25 for the passport and £8 carriage.

Her new passport arrived this morning, 29th. by Royal Mail Special Delivery. WELL DONE Royal Thai Embassy.

I cannot but compare this treatment with the contempt wit which the British Embassy in Bangkok treats its citizens

  10. My granddaughter has an i-mobile Hitz 328. She left it unused for about 2 weeks. Ithas been on the charger and the display lights up with a battery full icon, but it will not switch on.
