yes, until they start fine the clients using grab taxi. like they did where i come from. they catch you in an Uber, they fine you bc you are using an illegal service. simple.

you live here, know the prices. but that guy can get a higher payment from a tourist. and they are spoiled by tourist paying them whatever they want.

same as in every touristic city on earth. and believe me, sooner or later, grab taxi guys also start to do the same, have a look:

Grab has a rating system. They can easily weed out the scammers.

haha well yes, then GRAB is probably a good thing for C.M and anywhere that dont have meter taxi or them that dont want to turn on meter.

serve them right for taking the piรร for so long if they loose out.

In BKK is obviously different as theres many ok taxi guys compete and quick& easy just to get one off street.

I do not care for this wasting time waiting, what i read about, GRAB guys ringing you up, ask where you are, after you already put the exact location google marker into the site.

last time i try GRAB quote off internet, they want 180baht for route that normally cost 140-160.

So, like air b&b, they start out with a model that supposed to be cheap.

    have no costs etc.

then sooner or later as more people use it will be more expensive than regular.

but of course in that area,  if you only have took-took scumbags and dodgy taxi it is a better option

Agreed completely, when in BKK I use the regular cabs and ask for meter.... I have only good experiences... Well there's been a bunch that refused meter but the next one is just around the corner...

I think I maybe had one take the wrong route on purpose... But I don't know BKK well enough to know....

Grab in Bangkok calling you and asking where you are. Yes, this Happened the one time I used grab in Bangkok... In cm it didn't happen yet.. guess it depends on the area how clear it is where you are.. BKK roads if you are on the wrong side of the road it can be a long way around and no easy way to cross.

Explain us which kind of people can trust about someone tell about himself he is Buddhist and in the same time, kill or apologize killers ?

You miss totally to read Siddarta Gautama mind thinking and Ananda writings. You definitely don't know nothing about history, religions, philosophies, or whatever cultural things.

Your cultural instruction origin seems to be "ThaiVisa.com" or other sailor bins around.

So please, explain what you know about Buddhism and why someone who talk about kill pretend to be a mong ? Show us which kind of dumbo would trust that story time...

Don't you feel yourself also like to be abused ?

Please, become free... learn something, care about yourself.

IMHO Buddhist teachings doesn't say you can't kill in self-defense. Ofcourse it's easy to say that "we need to exterminate people x because they want to kill us. It's self defense.." used by perverse leaders throughout history.

And then ofcourse there's a difference between a real Buddhist and one that pretends to be a Buddhist..

Yes ok, here i was refer to using taxi in Thailand in general.

But even when must negociate, any farang who speak Thai should know the proper cost from an A to B?

I dont know about now, but thats the way it was when i spent time there many years ago.

Another nail in the coffin for taxis then, need to learn a new language to get the correct price. Seems reasonable. Good thing grab exists.

  6. 5 minutes ago, tingtongtourist said:

Of course not, but bus or van you pay total 10-20 baht for the whole trip instead of sit in traffic jam and watch the meter clock over.

Is actually a waste of time and money both for you and the driver.

this is what many farang here dont understand why taxi driver refuse the fare.

then of course when the farang is in a taxi caught in traffic jam, he will accuse the driver of going the long way or deliberately driving into traffic jam.

    555

They never use meter in Chiang Mai.

37 people said 'haha' to this comment and 17 people 'liked it', it really makes you wonder at some of the people who hang around on this forum, what is going through their mind, what they peruse on the internet, and what they do in their spare time. Worrying.

Only thing worrying is people like you who judge ppl based on what they think is funny.

You feel like there is a proper way to think and feel. You want to control people who do not fit your standards. Kind of like a Nazi actually.

    All heil the humor Nazi.

unfortunately but that is bc of 35 million tourists coming to thailand making these guys aggressive. moreover, they need to pay 1000 to 1200 to the owner of gaxi if they are drivers. that makes them more aggressive i reckon. can understand the pressure? just some empathy. you need to make 1200 baht a day just to cover the rent and you need to pay petrol, food and for your family waiting for food back home.

it is easy to speak from your comfy chair in front of your computer!

sure legal taxi guys improve their services but they will due to the fear of grab or uber. new regulations follow in time too.

anyway, no way i support grab or uber.

prefer to pay 50 baht more to a local guy. but that is me.

I understand the pressure. If they need more customers they can just join grab.

50 baht more for a real taxi, sure, but that's not the case. In cm the real cabs ask 500-600 for a trip that is 170-180 with grab...

    well, they say different here:

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-uber-thailand/thai-transport-authorities-crack-down-on-uber-grab-drivers-seek-ban-idUSKBN16E17R

    check here too.

and tell me, how this works?

legal taxies pony up a million to get registered officially while grab taxis do their business with white plates.  according to a taxi drive i talked, he said 1.2 million baht for a plate in bangkok if i dont remember wrong and he was saying like investment will pay itself in like 7 years with the cost of taxi car.

open your eyes a bit and understand why these legal taxi guys get aggressive.

yeah it is easy and selfish to think like 'i do whatever i want and call my taxi wherever i want'

Clearly something wrong with system when they pay 1.2 million and the end product is easily outcompeted by a random dude with a car and a smartphone.

Where did those 1.2 million go and for what??

They thought them how to drive? How to navigate? How to speak with customers?? All solved by common sense + smartphone app.. 1.2 million was a waste of money... I feel bad for them...kind of... But then when they overcharge themselves out of the market they have only themselves to blame.

    555. what the hell is he doing. as shown the thais are generally very nice tolerant people despite what some say. personally i think he deserved a night in the cells and a slap

Thais throw all the manners out the window when they step into a motor vehicle. Giving no respect or right of way for pedestrians or in this case a man in a wheelchair.

haha! That was your 420th post btw...
I haven't been stonned in years, but these days I'd just want access to CBD oil for various medical reasons, without any worry or hassle.

CBD oil would be awesome. For backpain, relaxation, recovery after training etc. And not getting high. Good for sleep as well I heard... The fact that it's illegal is absolutely disgusting and shows a really really awful side of "governments".

grab is a half foreign owned company providing illegal services and their service is never great as they say as well.

and it steals the jobs of locals and money goes to Singapore possibly tax free?

I never understand the logic of calling a grab taxi in a bus station where there are lots of other taxis.

for what, for paying 30 baht less?

Grab Taxi should be closed bc it is illegal. Legal taxi guys pay tax and pay to mafia and pay for queue and all. grab taxi guys pay nothing.

If you were in the same situation, you do the same to protect your turf and to feed your family. easy to speak from here.

    For paying hundreds less.

    For ease of communication.

Protect their turf?? How about start using the meter .. if they use the meter I would go with them.. just like I do in BKK... At least in BKK more than 50% use meter... In Chiang Mai it's 0%.

the problem with Songthews are that most of the time the driver does understand where i want to go and the pricing is so whimsical, Tuk Tuk smelly and noisy little things.  with Grab you know the price and there is little confusion regarding your destination.  done deal. these guys need to grow up.

The only taxi that works well in Chiang Mai is the airport taxi.. very good prices and they know where to go etc... Outside that cm is either inhale exhaust fumes (red car, tuk tuk) or pay ridiculous amounts to unmetered meter taxi. Grab wins every time.

lets just hope that the pot gets stirred real hard. facing actual consequences such as loosing face to the chinese could actual put things in motion. younger chinese are highly educated and well travelled, why should anyone keep up with the random bs that gets thrown in our way. the growing pains of the banana republic are loud and dreadful but we all have to grow up and face reality. things that dont want to develop will eventually die out and disappear.

Good point. The Chinese might be known for being rude. But China has highest average iq in the world and the younger ones are social media savvy etc... Problem is that Thais are pretty bad at fixing obvious problems so this will simply deter the higher level Chinese and leave only the china trash horses left...zero baht bus tours etc..looks good for numbers but horrible for Thailand.

Question is can BJ make the divisions and deal with the issues effectively without a camera crew?

Camera crews are ready. Big joke goes up on the podium. Cameras flashing. Kapum. Kapum.

Big joke starts talking: there has been problems with bribery in the past. But I have talked with everyone and they have promised to stop taking bribes. If anyone is asked to pay a bribe they should call me directly and I will come and fix it. *Applause* cameras flashing. Kapum. Kapum.

We have implemented a no tipping policy to complement the law. The officers that previously broke the law will not be breaking the policy. Because policy has the word police in it. *Break for laughs and applause*. Case solved forever. Big joke style.

If the present "taxi Thai mafia" operatives  had some courtesy, stopped wanting to overcharge all the time,

tried at least to look like they enjoyed their work, showed respect  & drove properly (like Bluebird in in Indonesia) nobody would want to use any other kind of taxi.

The ball has been in their court for many years but they just do not have the intellect

nor desire to pick it up

Yeah, I never ever saw or heard of anyone in Chiang Mai turning on the meter ... But it says meter taxi .. but they always refuse... Go figure.
