  1. I agree and understand both sides of the argument. One doesn't want to stop or slow the flow of the game and the other wants to "eliminate" ref mistakes.

There are technological advances being done and tested. One in particular that will help a lot already is the goal line camera. To accurately confirm if a ball has crossed the line or not is a great thing to eliminate a possible awful call by the ref and a major influence of the game...without slowing the game down one bit.

As for diving, I think a good solution would be ( assuming the ref doesn't catch it during the game ) to ban the player for the following game.

It's just an idea and punishment severity can be adjusted :). I think this would intimidate some diving, as there is no real consequence at the moment for diving.

I have a question regarding "miking up the ref"....what does that mean? As far as I know they are already miked up...at least with the linesmen and 4th official.

  2. Unbelievable. We have a COMPUTER inside the palm of our hand and people find ways to complain about this.

The desktops you compare your phone with have been on the market for decades. They had a lot more time to evolve. If you bought a computer in the early 80's, I'm sure by the mid 80's it was pretty much useless already.

It's pretty obvious you missed the point of my earlier posts. The point I was attempting to make is that iPhones and other cellphones become obsolete (or inadequate) much sooner than computers... It is worthwhile to consider this when making your purchases.

An iPhone 4 will NOT run the latest IOS... not even the last 2 IOS's. A 6 or 7 years old (and older too) computer WILL run the latest operating system. The laptop I'm using now is from 2010, running Windows 10 and it works extremely well and I have no need to replace it.

I understood your point. And yes, you are right, a cell phone smart phone are pretty much useless after only a few years. But...now my point...the smart phone has been around for only ~10 years. When was the first computer available for commercial purchase? 60's? 70's? I'm pretty sure ( without doing any research on this now ), that a new program written for the computer back then was way advanced and needed hardware to be upgraded in a similar timeline as a smartphone now.

In a few more years the smartphones should be a bit more evolved that they can last longer if needed.

I am still amazed what they managed to build into this small device.

  3. I noticed in recent weeks that the parking lot is pretty cleared up now. No more need to circle to find the lot to find a spot ( I also just used to go through to the dirt parking lot...easier and quicker to find parking ) and also no double parking. They really are doing a crackdown on long term parkers.

I took a picture of a sign they had posted by the parking lot ( several of the signs )

I'm not sure if this rule applies to the dirt parking lot further towards the back.

  4. Just found paragraph 103 in English and makes a bit more sense or at least easier to understand for me. Here is the quote for everybody to read as well:

    Section 103
Defamation of organs and representatives of foreign states

    (1) Whosoever insults a foreign head of state, or, with respect to his position, a member of a foreign government who is in Germany in his official capacity, or a head of a foreign diplomatic mission who is accredited in the Federal territory shall be liable to imprisonment not exceeding three years or a fine, in case of a slanderous insult to imprisonment from three months to five years.

    (2) If the offence was committed publicly, in a meeting or through the dissemination of written materials (section 11(3)) Section 200 shall apply. An application for publication of the conviction may also be filed by the prosecution service.

The confusing part for me was, the german version does not use the word "insult" in the first part of the sentence but rather towards the end, which made it sound like a generalization of the first part of sentence. aaaaaanways, doesn't matter anymore. It's all clear now :)

Regarding paragraph 90b, wouldn't Merkel / chancellor be considered a constitutional organ?

  5. I just took the time to read paragraph 103....this paragraph says that if somebody insults a head of the state or its representative WHILE in Germany or on German territory ( like a German Embassy ).

I didn't check, but I am pretty sure he wasn't in Germany or German ground at the time of the insult, thus I think there is no reason for him to get prosecuted.

Also, article 5 in the German constitution covers freedom of speech ( which includes satire...which is what this was ).

So, I still don't see why he is being prosecuted.

your German lacks mate. only the second part of the wording "while in Germany" pertains to foreign officials, the first part pertains to "head of state" without the limitation "while...".

the difference is made clear by dividing the wording in two parts using "oder" (or).

insults like "goatfàcker" are neither "satire" nor covered by freedom of speech.

    so now you see why...

German being the 3rd language I learned, I think it is fair enough that I did not and STILL do not see that part you mentioned being differentiated. The way I am reading it, they put the head of the state and its representatives in one sentence. Again, I must be reading it wrong, since he is being prosecuted. German, especially when it comes to law / bureaucracy is a pain in the a$$ language.

Anyways, while the word "Goatf*cker" itself is not satire, the entire context of the poem with the word and other word he used is satire. I had a smile on my face when listening to the poem. A retired German teacher busted out laughing when I showed him the video. If it is tasteful or not, is a different debate.

I wonder if Germany has a similar law that protects the head of the state of Germany...in this case Merkel. Because I have seen and heard quite a few publicized insults on Merkel.

  6. I said it in a previous thread about this already...

I really really really wish a bunch of other comedians / artists from around the world write / sing / paint some "nice" poems about erdogan in support of Boehmermann.

As you live in Thailand how about exercising 'free speech' on issues forbidden by Thai law and see what happens.

Can you explain what Thai law has to do with Germany kowtowing to Turkey?

No country in their right minds would sacrifice their citizens for a non secular muslim state. Germany under Merkel's helm is clearly not a healthy democracy.

Böhmermann going to court is clearly according to prevailing law, paragraph 103 German Penal Code. anything else is bla-bla.

Really? From that statement you take that I actually mean censored countries....REALLY????

Do I really need to rephrase that sentence to "from around the free democratic world that does not have absurd laws" or is that too vague too? Still don't understand what I mean?

But, also for the sake of argument...if enough people in a particular country stand up for what is right ( or believe is right ), there is jacksh*t the government can do. What will the thai government do if 10 million of their citizens write a poem about erdogan?

  8. 5 hours to go. No excuses for dortmund if they don't make it to the semi's ( unless the ref is against us of course :) ). No injured players, everybody fully fit and rested and the Klopp hype of last week has passed as well. 0:2 ;)

  9. It was actually a quite entertaining "poem". The poem does make rap lyrics look like kindergarten stuff.

I can definitely understand erdogan being insulted / offended...but that should not give him the right to file charges to boehmermann. It's sad that this is becoming a discussion. I wish Germany would just tell him to f-off and fix his own problems and people before worrying what's going on in Germany.

I also wish that comedians around the world stand up and write nice poems similar to boehmermanns in his support.

  10. Nothing changed here. Water still trickling in. The tank is pretty much empty now, so we called the water department ( the number in the op link ) and asked for a truck to come by and fill the tank. They said they can't do that, but we can go to the water department and pick up water for free.

Oh, and it was said another 2-3 days. Surprise surprise.

  11. Here as well ( city center ). Water just trickles into the tank. Last night the tank was almost empty and this morning half full. This has been going on for about a week now. At one point there was no water flowing into the tank at all.

Does the link you posted mention when they may have the problem fixed?
