  1. There is a liquor store on the airport road ( Uppalisan road ) that sells what you are looking for. Not only do they have triple sec and sambuca they actually have one of the biggest liquor and wine selections that I know of in Ubon.

Location: on the airport road, diagonally across the air force entrance ( you'll see two fighter jet statues outside ), 2 buildings past my restaurant ( peppers ).

They are open everyday from 9 or 10am until 9pm.

  2. I was scrambling for Turkeys earlier in November and called many different Makros etc.

Yesterday we got a phone call from Makro Surin saying they have 10 Turkeys available....if I still want any. 300 Baht / kg

You may be able to have the Turkeys transferred from one Makro to another at no additional charge. I had it done once from Makro Sisaket to Makro Ubon

Edit: as an alternative to Turkey for Christmas, it kind of depends on your nationality :). We are doing Lamb Shank. Were thinking of goose, but probably to hard to find.

  3. Yep. I was initially told only a few select branches in Bangkok but if you Have a look on their website there are regional branches everywhere. I applied today at the bank mentioned. Ask for Ploii. They have many farang customers with FCD accounts

Thanks for the confirmation I live in Ubon and when I previously enquired about a USD account they told me no problem but the account would need to be in Bangkok.

I will check again next week if things have changed as it was a while ago when I last enquired.

What does that mean "the account would need to be in Bangkok"?

We were able to open up a Euro and USD account at a Bangkok Bank branch in Surin. Later on we moved to Ubon and whenever we needed something done that can't be done online, we would go to the Bangkok Bank branch in Ubon that handles foreign currency and get it done.

  4. Yupp, was aware of that...they actually have a notice posted there in "English" about purchasing more than 10L between 2 and 5pm.

Thanks for the heads up though :)

  5. Coffee Hol has a great selection of Belgium beers, including many of my favorite beers (Rochefort, Kwak, Kasteel, Orval, Westmalle, etc). Peppers has several nice German beers I always enjoy while in there. Maybe Julian will remind me of the one I love but always forget the name of =). Our place (The Outside Inn) carries the aforementioned Lao Dark and Lao regular, plus Corona, Hoegaarden, and the usual suspects San Miguel Light and Heineken.

I will give that Coffee Hol a try

Any idea whare I could find this one ?

Erdinger Pikantus is the one you like :)

We do not carry the Franziskaner Weissbier, but carry a few different Weissbiers from Erdinger...both breweries practically neighbors :). We are currently out of stock of the Erdinger Weissbier ( new stock in on Thursday....supposedly ). We do have Erdingers seasonal Winterbeer "Schneeweisse" and a few others. And while it is not a wheatbeer, we also have a fairly unique beer to Thailand "Bitburger"...that is a love it or hate it type of beer

  6. I remember that Makro had issues keeping stock ( like Beer Laos ), but since about a year now I never had issues getting Beer Laos from them. The only problem I mostly ran into was trying to get a case between 2 and 5pm.

  7. Krungthai Bank opened up a foreign exchange center / bank on Chayangkul Road about 3 months ago. I haven't been inside there, but I think it would be worth a try.

    This is from their flyer:

    - Foreign bank notes buying and selling

    - International money transfer

    - foreign drafts selling

    - foreign clean bills purchased

    - foreign clean bills for collection

    - foreign currency deposits

    #045-313-304

They are located diagonally across Long Beach Massage.

  8. It is like asking, which is better: Coke or Pepsi, BMW or Mercedes, Beetles or Rolling Stones etc

It basically comes down to own preference and taste. Some will like Microsoft more than apple, some will like apple more than microsoft, some will hate both and others will love both.

For me, I enjoy apple products. Easy to use, reliable, very few headaches. What I do not like ( which I like with microsoft better ), is the ability to customize your hardware and software more. No way you can custom build your own mac with a specific case or power supply etc, nor can you for example install programs in specific folders.

I think that Microsoft is a bit ahead with certain things and are catching up on things they fell behind. I think apple will have serious competition on the way again.

  9. While it's not suited for transport to bring to thailand, but if I were in farang land, I would eat lots of Doener Kebab ( Germany ), In & Out Burger ( USA / California ). Yeah yeah, I know....Junk food. But I still like it.

I am quite happy with everything else available here....at times its <deleted> expensive, BUT, it is available.

  10. makro on Sukhumvit in Pattaya had Butterball & Norbest turkeys tonight as well as a turkey breast roast.

Do you remember the kg price on them?

    Edit:

Nevermind, I just saw your post in the other thread. 350 & 300. Basically double from last year.

  11. Earlier today I spoke to a Thai that knows the builder. The person's english wasn't that good, but from what I understood, the developer is taking deposits for the condos. If there is enough interest, they will start building. If there is no interest / not enough interest, they will cancel the project and return the deposit.

  12. Haha, after two days no reply...nobody has anything nice to say i guess :).

I can't help you with the differences between accommodations / advantages and disadvantages, however i do have some input.

I assume by now you fully trust your wife. If that is the case, you do not need to set up a "company". You can run the business as a sole proprietorship and be employed by the owner ( your wife )...assuming you meet the work permit criteria and age limit.

This business model will save you quite some paperwork, headaches and taxes.

  13. Theres a guy rearing & selling Turkeys in the next village to me, dont know who buys them as there not cheap, 1500 Bht a bird & theres hardly any falangs around here, cant imagine many Thais paying that sort of money...

Do you know if he sells by the bird or by the kilo? I am looking for some Turkeys for thanksgiving dinner and given the Turkey shortage, I am considering Thai Turkeys ( never had one before ).

  14. But ever the more satisfying when things like this happen:

CL quarter finals 2013. Dortmund needed to win to reach the semi finals. 90th minute, we're behind 2:1.

I bet quite a few fans missed this:

sorry, the clip is in german. And no, Hitler was not the commentator of the match ( especially after the second goal, you'll know what i mean :) )

  15. Hey all,

as some may already know, there is a Turkey shortage in Thailand this year and thanksgiving is around the corner. I am searching for 5 Turkeys ( Plucked...I believe that is the correct term for a turkey that is basically ready to go in the oven ).

Does anybody know where some can be found?

Also, is there any advice or anything to look out for when buying a turkey in thailand from a farm ( any deceases / health risks etc. )?

I am located in Ubon Ratchathani. I wouldn't mind driving a few km's to pick them up or have them shipped here.

  16. I just recently replaced my battery on an iphone 5 at an iStudio repair center. 3500 Baht

I did ask at the JJ Mall a week prior and they were going to do it for 1000 Baht. However, it would not have been a "certified" battery. The risk of it causing damage or even worse, exploding in my hands was just not worth the price difference. Also, I noticed that the after market battery only had 1100 Amp. If I remember correctly, an original Apple battery usually has around 1900 amp.
