  1. I don't qualify as a "brexit supporter" but I will point out the part where Boris failed to tell the truth and many idiots actually beleived him.
  2. Ha Ha Ha 40 years ago there was a lot less traffic so being like a lunatic was almost safe.
  3. That link is a very interesting and revealing read. It seems that rather than plod along making money from selling electricity, one would be better off selling the company that makes the power. I was under the impression that it is illegal for UK government bodies to "invest" public money because of the risk factor.
  4. From the looks of things it seems a bad idea for all forms of government to get involved in energy production. https://news.sky.com/story/stricken-council-backed-solar-farms-giant-to-shine-light-on-auction-12772777 So if anyone has a few million £ you might like to buy a ready made going concern with thousands of solar panels etc.
  5. Not a problem. Submarines are designed to sink
  6. Yes. In bad weather, all watertight doors are supposed to be closed and all crew members are ordered to don life jackets.
  7. I got my new passport a couple of days ago. The whole process took 12 weeks. That included a 1 week delay because the agent I used didn't read my emails. I ended up making a telephone call to them.
  8. Interesting. One might have thought there would be a memory support battery so that settings would still be remembered even if power were lost for a few weeks.
  9. Allow me to point out that a "boat" in naval terms is a submarine and they most certainly do take on water and sink.
  10. I realy don't know what all the fuss is about.......
  11. The governments planning is spot on. Don't forget they have a 51% (I think) stake in the electricity companies so in effect they are giving themselves a nice juicy pay rise. I think such rises in the cost of electricity are bad for the people of Thailand for all the reasons others have mentioned.
  12. Just got back from Buriram immigration office. First: I was told there would be a charge of 500 Baht for "Visa transfer". I told the young lady receptionist that was not right because it is a free service. She went away only to return after a few minutes to reiterate the requirement for 500 Baht. Once again I told her that was wrong and asked why she wanted me to pay. She went away and half an hour later I was given back my old and new passports with no charge for "visa transfer". Second: This thing about "visa transfer" is, as others have mentioned, a bit misleading. What I got was a rubber stamp for each original visa that was in my old passport. Information added to the rubber stamp was the date of issue, the place of issue, the type of visa and the expiry date. Also, on the next page there were a couple of stamps regarding my last extension and the date of my next extension. I'm sure many have already said something along these lines. Apologies to you for repeating.
  13. Wow. That sounds so impressive people reading it might actually believe it. I am intimately familiar with the truth of rice failures this year in Thailand. I strongly suspect the original information was fed to the FAS by TAT using their trusty tourist calculator or perhaps they lent it to the department of rice production
  14. There are quite a few companies making RCBO's. Whichever one is fitted please remember to test it regularly. I cannot recommend Safe T Cut because I had one in my CU and, unknown to me at the time, it failed. Not a shocking problem fortunately but one which went undetected for I don't know how long.
  15. I did not interpret anything. I quote exactly what was written in the letter. "The British Embassy would be most grateful if you would kindly stamp (name's) replacement passport with a replacement visa". Make of that what you will but I will be going to immigration on Monday and will let this thread know what was said/done. Watch this space.
  16. I have just received my new UK passport together with a letter from the UK embassy requesting that Thai immigration place a replacement visa in the new passport. That is what immigration will do There can be no argument about that. Where there is a difference of opinion is regarding Thai immigration charging 500 Baht for the service. That is wrong. The replacement visa is free however some local immigration offices like to make an off-the-record charge for it.
  17. There is absolutely no link between this and the investigations into EU corruption....
  18. I would have thought none of this matters too much so long as your wife actually lives with you and witnesses can support that. With regards to wokery comments better not start singing "Here we go gathering nuts in May".
  19. At a guess I would suggest that input wires were connected to output wires and the short circuit current would have been enough to heat up a few poorly made internal connections between cells. Probably would not have happened if panels were t'other way up. Mind you if there was a poor internal connection it would have shown up sooner or later anyway. I wonder how the explanation went to the insurance company.
