  1. Dumb question! Payphone... like every other country.
  2. The challenge is out there! Is the Skywalk overlooking a National Park? If so, I hope it isn't a 2 tier challenge... i.e. Broken by a Thai - 500,000 Baht. Broken by a Farang - 5,000 Baht.
  3. The same thing been happening here in Sydney for years (pre Covid). Wealthy Chinese buying houses and apartments, many just left empty as an investment. The aforementioned, as well as the easy money (very low interest rates) have driven up prices!
  4. Mistake #2... there aren't any 'small side streets' running off Soi Cowboy!
  5. You're doing a good job! At least you're having a 'go'. As a long time user of this Forum you've obviously read the comments uploaded by some readers to certain news stories that would be better left 'uncommented' on. There is a small minority of members of this Forum that have too much spare time on their hands and must make a smart_rse comment on anything and everything! Keep up the good work.
  6. Looks like YOU are ANOTHER (so-called) expert! There is a term given to long term steroid users who go crazy for the smallest, or no particular reason.. It's called "Roid Rage"... if he also happened to be intoxicated then that wouldn't help. I managed a Gym during the 90's and it was all too common.
  7. If I'm GOING to the Airport to meet somebody I always get the train(s)... But coming back into town, especially where you're going... and with baggage, the taxi (meter running) is the 'go'. Somehow, travelling on the crowded BTS in evening peak with a suitcase and possibly hand luggage doesn't appeal to me.. backpacks are bad enough! Taxi all the way, buddy!
  8. Myth or fact? Back in the 80's I met 2 *medical professionals from Ireland holidaying in Thailand who had been researching this very topic back in the U.K. (*don't know their exact titles but they worked in a lab testing food) At that time I was drinking (the original) Amarit because Singha (in excess) used to give me diarrhea. They casually mentioned to me that Amarit had very little preservatives hence its short shelf life. They weren't drinking beer so I asked how did they know that. They told me that they were recently testing many of the beers from around the world and they came to the conclusion that SINGHA was the worst! They had found it contained formaldehyde and minimal traces of lead. I'm assuming they tested the SINGHA that is for the export market as it tastes different to the local brew. Anyway.. that was 1985, things change. Unfortunately the old Amarit is long gone. A NEW Amarit came along in the 90's at the same time as Carlsberg.. both tasted the same, and fortunately short lived. Then came Chang???? Thai beer HAS preservatives!
  9. Another place (not on the tourist maps) to see giraffes, is SUKHOTHAI AIRPORT. There are large open compounds next to the main terminal bldg with giraffes and zebras roaming around.
  10. I've been using THAI since' 83 and never had a problem EXCEPT FOR THE EXPENSIVE FARES. I flew Emirates for about 8 years and they were by far superior... Emirates business class was AUD $1,200 cheaper.
  11. Changklan Rd night bazaar area still not running at 100% as it was in 2016. Loi Kroh seemed to recover well since Covid. Moonmuang Rd has a few visible changes. A couple of 'corner' dining/drinking establishments gone (since covid). The Nimman area would be the most noticable change, it's getting bigger, denser, busier by the day. Weekend night time parking a nightmare.
  12. Both her and J. Adern succumbed to the old saying.. if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. Gender equality in important roles is all good and well, but you gotta have the right people! The increasing number of woke voters these days doesn't help things.
  13. Also, never lean over a paper shredder when wearing a necktie... not so much mutilation, but strangulation!
  14. I occasionally take the o'night train to Chiang Mai. I Prefer the bottom bunk in non A/C. The so called CNX EXPRESS takes 14 hrs and has 14 stops. Try and travel small and light with a suitable LOCK on your bag. I sneak a bottle of Red onto the train and a small "tupperware" of pre prepared sliced up bread roll and cheese (cubes). I have the occasional drink behind the curtain.. on some trips there have been parties in the Dining carriage which go into the wee small hours. The views (more so) from the LHS of the carriage in the mornings are quite nice. Well worth doing the train trip at least once... then fly back to BKK. The CNX nightlife is near normal again!
  15. Guilty of acting out his songs... "...Do you wanna touch me? yeah, where?, there, yeah!"
  16. I've lost about 5 dogs over the years to snakes. The smart dogs know which snakes to attack, and which ones to leave alone.
  17. Then there's the old trick, when you've been drinking in the one bar for several hours and your hand goes in your pocket to "check the bin" ready to leave.... A fresh beer then comes over with the cashier yelling.. "..this one on the house!"
  18. A lot (not all) of those planes parked up were used for domestic routes. Quite possibly they're content on letting their THAI SMILE planes service those routes. THAI SMILE supposed to be a "budget" carrier but they're no cheaper than TG.
  19. I regularly flew Business on Domestic THAI flights. The 10.05am flight from CNX to BKK was a 747 that had come from Frankfurt and was always overbooked. I'd always check-in early at CNX and they'd bump me up to First Class for the 1 hour trip. I always remember one particular flight in 2011 during the floods when ALL the hosties and myself were over on the RHS of the plane looking out of the windows down at an inundated Ayuthaya. It's a far cry these days going CNX to BKK in a Thai Smile plane????
  20. Dunno what country you're in but in Australia the Government subsidizes renewables!
  21. It's funny how the biggest hypocrites all drive petrol cars, catch planes, use battery powered mobile phones.....
  22. That'll do me! Russian tourists getting the "rock star" treatment after their absence! Hang on to your hats for when China is out of lockdown and the first flood of their tourist groups arrive... the TAT will declare that day a PUBLIC HOLIDAY!
