  1. AND lack of earthing to the enclosure and conduits.????
  2. Yes, I was confusing the two, thanks. This would now be a new passport with different number, but she still has the old expired one to verify I guess.
  3. Perhaps let us know how she goes this time with "leaving on the new one in a couple of days". We used to have a Thai consulate in Brisbane which is a couple of hours train/car ride away but they closed it down. Options are Canberra or Sydney these days for any passport renewal or emergency passport where one must apply in person and the cost in time, travel and acommodation really would make that a rediculous decision. Would not be popular with the boss if anything went belly up when arriving at passport control in Thailand for any reason especially if we decided to go entry on expired visa and it wasn't allowed on the day. Anyone married will appreciate that any such stuff up would be considered my doing and would tend to come up in any disagreement for the next 100 years or more. ???? The backup there would be , ok, here is her Aussie passport, next question would be, where is her covid insurance..?? The "safe" option would be to bite the bullet and just pay up for covid insurance, apply and pay for a tourist visa, for her as well as me. All up, the tourist visa would be around AUD$60 ........what's the covid insurance cost these days, stay is proped to be around 45 days.? An email to the Thai Consulate here in Canberra might help but in past experience, any government reply tends to be unhelpful and based on the first line of the query. ????
  4. If she exited on Thai passport, what documents did she produce to get on a plane to the US? Surely it would be similar for any Thai travelling to Aus where they need to show either visa or citizenship to the country the are flying to. So did she present her US passport also at departure time?
  5. So my wife is leaving Australia on an Aus passport, no problem there. Enter Thailand on an expired Thai passport which would appear to be ok given several answers above. She would need to apply for the Thailand Pass which according to Farang Kiwi, acceptable with expired Thai passport. (with any luck "Thai Pass" won't exist in August) No requirement for any visa as she is Thai with a current ID card. No requirement for any insurance as she is Thai. She has her international Covid certificate so ok there too. I do however see a possible problem when she goes to leave Thailand given she would need to show her Aussie passport, Otherwise the airline would require either proof of an Aussie visa or citizenship if she rocks up to the airline checkin with a new Thai passport. If she presented her Aussie passport, there is no entry details or stamp but it would be Aussie citizenship proof. So I'm thinking, leave Thailand on her Aussie passport but as mentioned doesn't have any entry stamp or entry card. Surely this has been done before and there has to be a clear answer. Admittedly there are ways around it by going Aussie all the way, but why should she have to apply and pay for visas and the like to go back to her country of birth. Perhaps Ferang Kiwi has more detail on their experience.
  6. It's her passport that has expired, her ID card is fine but I don't see the connection. Her ID card currency helped with her expired Thai passport to get her Aussie passport issued as a form of birth identity, but there were other avenues to cover that issue if it came up. Thanks, one less thing to be concerned about. Same thought i had. Thanks, cheers.
  7. In addition, the purpose of the main earthing electrode in the M.E.N. system is to minimise the possibility of the supply voltage floating above ground. Sometimes, well most times, a difficult concept for the lay person to comprehend.
  8. Seen this before somewhere however just checking current requirements. Planning to come back to Thailand in August sometime, I will be on a 60 day tourist visa (Aussie with Aus passport), my wife (Thai) will be leaving Australia on her Aus passport, but entering Thailand on her expired Thai passport of which we planning to get new while in Thailand. Then on leaving she would exit on her new Thai passport and re-enter Australia on her Australia Passport. This all seem legit etc....??
  9. That could be coming from anywhere on the earthing system. Digital meters are high impedance and will read inaccurately given that, especially in the hands of inexperienced and questionable installations.
  10. No, I quoted you so looking for your response as you made the statement. Crossy is a trained professional, as I am, so he would already know any test proceedure. I'm just curious where you actually placed the test probes of this voltmeter to get the so called "leakage voltage" reading and the type of meter used. Was there any other device connected to the "test points" in question.
  11. The gal pipes, depending on water quality, will, over time, rust up internally. Effect is loss of water flow and pressure. Unscrew a section and take a look. Chances are you will barely be able to see daylight for the rust buildup. Mum and Dad had all their gal pipes replaced here in Aus in the late 80's with a black poly pipe. Not worth a cracker. Splits in the pipe started to show after maybe 18 months and the whole install had to be replaced once again. Best ask locals what is best in your area.
  12. It would be interesting to know just how you "tested" for leakage. Some power supply units, usually cheaper smps are not built as isolation supplies and leakage there would be expected so most tend not to use them AND they are banned from import to many countries. The supply you show seems on the larger physical side and perhaps suggest it might be of the older transformer design which would more than likely incorporate some form of primary filtering which can get leaky. Possible it is double insulated which sort of rules the former out. Many problems can occur and without actually being there to test or look for possibilities, it's an almost impossible query to answer with any certainty. Usually the biggest issue are those who don't have a clue, jumping to inaccurate conclusions.
  13. Exactly....no way to stop this <deleted>. Aus has had "no call registers" for donkey's years, never works. If I answer and there is a delay on the other end, hang up. If I answer and it says, I'm from xyz and there is a problem with your computer, hang up. On and On....... hang up.
  14. Can't wait for this joker to start looking for some 4 metre salties to present his family to. They're tame too when bred in captivity........... pigs a*** !!!
  15. There are many underlying issues that could present the problems you describe. Best to get someone qualified to do some investigation as it would be impossible to define exactly from a distance on a forum. Any "shock" from mains supply should be taken seriously and advisable not to use equipment that exibits these characteristics until such time as the probelm is defined.
  16. Aus used to have the same sliding scale accounting arrangement for domestic but it was scrapped for a basic charge per unit many years ago. There are still tarifs to deal with but usually a simple deal. Commercial power, well that's another story completely. Hopefully Thailand will follow suite one day.
  17. Multimeters have a catagory rating which allows the meter to be used safely in varying environments. A 120 baht meter will never have a valid catagory rating and hence put the user in danger of electric shock. To save repeating specifics, I included a pdf below that should explain everything. ABC-meter-safety.PDF
  18. Actually, UNI-T have a model UT33A which is mains rated to Cat 2 which is load side of breakers downwards if you must play with electrics. Has up to 2000uF cap range as well as many others. Around AUD$30 many places.
  19. mmmm...no answer to query and I'm surprised a 120 baht meter even works let alone have a cap range. Don't ever poke it near mains gear.
  20. Should have been enforced right from the word go.
  21. All this crypto bs has to be up there with pyrmid schemes, just a new slant. Prefer a chunk of gold in my hand any day.
  22. As mentioned above, no insurance company is liable to cover the cost of the third party if any of the above mentioned factors come into play.
  23. Actually, it is. The impedence of this earth return to the MEN under earth fault conditions, commonly known as earth loop impedence, is what determines the trip levels of circuit breakers etc. Circuit breakers are commonly chosen to match these known levels, i.e. a lower current protection device is necessary as the impedence levels rise.
  24. Which is...??? I'd be getting the capacitor tested, well known failure point.(take it out of circuit naturally) These days a $20 multimeter will have a cap test range included up to around 20uF mark.
