  1. A good but sad read is a book called   Only13

Its a true story of a young girl entering prostitution and wanting to marry a rich foreigner and how it goes sadly wrong for her.

The beginning of the book talks about some Thai cultures and the reason for her story.

Sorry I can't remember her or the authors name but it's well worth a read if you can find it

  2. Rip , I don't know if the lady had insurance or adequate insurance but maybe the way forward would be to make insurance compulsory when entering the country. When checking passports on arrival check if the visitor has insurance from their home country if not make it compulsory to buy it here before being allowed to enter the country. That could save a visitors life and also save Thailand money

  3. Silly old bugger taking out a boat unprepared.

he was prepared he had a dingy not everyone bothers with a dingy as they think they will never sink. I had a boat so I know :D

He should have had a life raft , the dinghy was probably only with him as a means to get ashore when at anchor , I think more luck than planning

The inflatable is a form of life boat. A dinghy is a generally a solid hull and not usually for stowage or emergency. You expect a small yacht or similar to have the same as a cruise liner????

Never mind. Feel secure with a rubber duck in your bath tub !:cheesy:

Modern life rafts are very compact and relatively cheap so all sea going craft should carry one .

I had a 25 foot sports fishing and always carried a 6 man automatic life raft .

A dinghy/inflatable is better than nothing but not a substitute for a proper life raft

  5. I'm on holiday in Bang Saray at the moment and played the fleet navy course near Sattahip for a total price of ...140 baht ! No caddies here so it's a great value course. ( my friend has a book of tickets , 50 for 6000 baht )

    2 x 9 holes = 120 baht and 20 baht to hire trolley !

Have you got the address? or link from google maps?

If you travel towards Sattahip from pattaya on sukomvit the road veers sharp left at Sattahip , I think it's about 3 sets of traffic lights along you turn right into the naval area. There is a white lighthouse on the entrance to the base.

On entering you have to hand in your drivers license for a pass , then drive about 1 k to the t junction at the sea.turn left and about 1 k the course is on your left

  6. Why are caddies so well paid ?

I don't like to have a caddie but at most courses have no option . One of my local courses it is 150 baht for the green fees and 180 for caddie fee , then I buy the caddie a drink and give the tip at the end.

What originally starts at 150 baht for a game ends up being 600 all because of a caddie I don't want !

I sympathise with the original post because I've had caddies do the same , I've chipped from off the green and before I've had chance to mark the ball theyve picked it up and said give me so they can get back on the telephone quicker

Most can only dream of those sort of prices. To be fair to caddies at the courses around Pattaya they almost always automatically mark even if 6 inches away and will always ask before picking up - too many groups putt out everything so I think they actually do learn sometimes............

  8. There's 2 buses run from dmk to bkk regularly , number 554 and 555 if I remember correct. The bus stop is on the main road I front of the terminal , 35 baht and takes about 1 hour.

From bkk to pattaya/ jomtien aircon coach takes about 1 hour 45 mins and is 130 baht , I feel a lot safer and more relaxed on the coach than the mini buses

  9. If I really want to go somewhere, I don't mind if it costs me 100 baht. I have been to parks where they didn't charge extra but I don't expect that to happen every time. If you don't want to pay, simply don't go to National Parks. One less tourist is no big deal as the parks are overcrowded during the holidays anyway.

Good idea , if you really want to go don't be tight , infact let's pay 5x more for beer , rent , food fuel etc if we really want to stay here , let's face it 1 less foreigner won't make any difference

  10. Sorry if this is not the answer you are looking for but if you don't get any joy with cth and are desperate to watch sport this weekend another option is online packages. I use ilikehdtv and link my tv with a hdmi cable. The package I have is 450 baht a month , no rolling contract and the picture quality is the same as cable or satellite . There are many sports channels on it including all the sky sports , BT sports, Eurosport , the golf channel mutv etc. also included is movies , discovery , nat geo etc.

Another option is 365 sports ( not bet365 ) this package is sport only but has the advantage of last 5 days on demand ( good for catching up on early morning games)

Hope this provides an option if no joy with cth
