  1. You just have to leave a few days before the extension runs out. You probably would of lost about 3 days is my guess.

    Thanks joe

It still appears a bit unclear about the validity of the visa , all it says is enter before , therefor technically you've entered before that date for you're first visa , so why can't you continue to use second visa ?

I've read before that a triple entry can be made to last 9 months with the 30 extensions but how would that be possible ?

I'm not trying to be argumentive joe and I respect all you're advice but I'm still a bit unsure how it all works !

  2. Hello all

Does anyone know what the validity is of a double entry tourist visa ? I.e my date of issue was 19/02/14 and the enter before date is 18/05/14

What I don't understand is if I activated my first visa on 20/02/14 and then paid for a 30 dat extension it reads like I would not be able to activate my second visa as I would have exceeded the enter before date.

    Thanks for any sensible replies

    Mark

  3. They give them 7 more days to regulate their situation/papers.

Enough time to plan a genuine 90 days tourist visa. Good. Where is the problem ?

    I wasn't aware you can get a 90 day tourist visa ?

I arrived here on a triple entry tv and am now nearing the end of my double entry tv which I got from Laos , I'm only 49 so at the moment limited to my visa options so for those that keep saying get the correct visa it's not that easy , I just hope I can get another double entry tv next month. I am not working out here and have proof of funds in a Thai bank ac to show I can support myself ( and gf ) but there's no guarantee I'll get a visa

Getting more than 1 is no problem. But the rules depend on where you apply. At many places you will not get a new triple tourist visa, but might get a single or double.

    Thank you.

    I totally agree.

I'm not an expert on this subject but I think you'll find you can only get a triple entry visa in you're home country.

When you go to the Thai embassy/consulate for you're next visa in which ever country you choose , it is advisable to take a proof of address and a bank book if you have Thai bank ac to prove you have enough finance for you're stay.

Personally I've not been asked for above items yet when I have renewed my tourist visa in Laos but with the new clampdown I will make sure I have them with me when I apply again in June !

That sound like very bad advice to me. The whole point of the exercise is to stop people using Tourist Visas who are not really tourists and forcing them to get the correct visa for their status. The declaration that you have a Thai bank account will raise a red flag immediately. A simple tourist usually does not have a bank account in the country they are visiting for tourist purposes.

    Den

Den I think the idea is not to stop tourists but to have more control over who is here by trying to stop criminals and people staying here with insufficient funds and maybe working illegally .

By showing you have funds in a Thai ac and proof of where you are staying shows you are not trying to hide anything from immigration .

Next year I plan on getting an o visa and then a retirement visa but at the moment I'm only 49 so my visa options are limited and a tourist visa is the easiest option

  6. Inthepink: I heard about investment visa's on one of the other forums, I'm not sure how it works or how stable the Thai economy is though. Right now I'm invested in several mutual funds at USAA and the TSP retirement fund that I set up back in my Army days both accounts are giving me very decent returns. Are there solid trust worthy mutual funds or real estate investments for me to look into in Thailand? Last I checked in order to by anything other then a condo on the second floor or higher I had to be married to a Thai national, is that still correct? I have seen far too many guys get burned in divorce settlements and I've had too many bad experiences with past girlfriends, so I'm ruling marriage out of my future completely!

Meatboy: I live cheap always have always will. One of the reasons I'm thinking Thailand over other cheap countries like Cambodia, the Phillipines and Vietnam is the food. I love the local cuisine, and it's mostly inexpensive especially the little out door restaurants they set up on the side of the road, I love the ambiance the food and the price I can happily eat at those places three meals a day for a month as long as I don't have a woman nagging me to go someplace else :P. I'm not a huge fan of beer, never have been, however, as I would be on an extended vacation I expect to go to a bar once a month or so and would expect to spend about 1600 bhat on a night of drinking with friends. You mentioned things are changing in Thailand and not for the better. Are you referring to a strengthening bhat, a weakening dollar, or is there a growing hostility toward farangs in the general populace? Also, with SHARKS I assume you are referring to schools that promise visas and decent pay but in the end provide neither and have you working in the country illegally, when I was in China this used to happen all the time. I think I built up some decent BS sensors in China that have served me well but I admit I'm still an amateur when it comes to thailand. Any advice you can give me on how to avoid getting scammed or ripped off would be greatly appreciated.

notmyself: I looked into the ED visa, the information I got made it sound like these are getting harder to get more expensive to obtain and more of a pain in the ass to renew. I'm still considering it as an option I'm just a little torn. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to take a job at a University in one of the cheaper cities that provides housing, then I can spend a year learning the language getting the lay of the land soaking up interest in my accounts back home. Then I can find the best way to move money into the country and stay for an extended period of time. I don't suppose they offer a one year tourist visa?

1600 baht sounds a very expensive night out to me ! I live in nong khai and spend about 400 baht on a night out ( 5 large Leo's ) ! I manage on 40,000 a month for myself and Thai gf and that includes rent for 2 bedroom detached bungalow , water , electricity etc

  7. I'm not one to rag on thai English language news for bad grammar, but w-t-f does a moped have to do with anything in this story?

These people have zero professioanl pride in their work.

Just the most inane bs you can imagine, daily.

He was put in prison because he was caught on CCTV stealing a moped/scooter

Although he didn't deserve to be killed he was regularly causing problems and previously been arrested for racial insults

  8. In before the "Waaaaa - I can't drink that day and it's going to kill the tourist industry because WAAAAAAA !" replies.

Did you know that back in the "real" world there are places that don't sell alcohol on Sundays because, you know, religion and stuff ! There are still places where shops aren't allowed to open on Sundays. And they have these things called "Statutory Holidays" and stuff ! Don't they know it will absolutely kill all those business's if they are closed for a day once in a while ?!?!?! WAAAAAAAAA.

The absolute horror I feel every time I try going to the bank on on a Sunday ! Egads ! I have to wait ONE DAY until I can do my banking ??!? What kind of #*!?@& place is this !

It's really quite pathetic to whine about something that happens so infrequently. A couple religious holidays per year, maybe a couple elections. So what, 6-7 days out of an entire year that bars are supposed to close ?

    WAAAAAAAAAAAA

There are place you get the death penalty for being gay, or places you get tortured if you drink alcohol. There are places with laws in which positions you are allowed to have sex.....There are many crazy things on this planet, but how does one nonsense justify another nonsense?

  9. Good luck !

I have got iPad 1 and mine keeps crashing all the time . I have tried everything to cure the problem , ie re boot , closing all the windows and eventually deleting everything and restored it to factory settings but still it keeps crashing . When I look in the diagnostics it says low memory caused crash. I only started getting these problems after I could not do anymore software upgrades , is it apples way of trying to force me to buy new product ?

My neighbour has I pad 2 and that freezes regularly

  10. Instead of flying to udon how about getting the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok ( about 800 baht ) that will take you direct to nong khai. It's a maximum 15 minute walk to the bridge or you could get a tuk tuk for about 40 baht . To walk to the bridge turn left as you exit the station , you then come to the main road, turn left and cross the train lines continue straight to next junction ( not far ) its like a T junction and turn right and you're at the bridge.

Make sure you take a passport photograph with you for Laos visa and 35 us dollars ( about 1100 baht ) its cheaper to pay in dollars , 1500 if you pay in baht.

Exit Thailand getting you're passport stamped and wait for the bus just after you pass through immigration ( bus 15 baht )

On arrival in Laos go to winow 1 and get visa application and complete it , return it to same window with photograph and dollars and passport.

It usually takes about 15 minutes and you're passport is handed back to you at window 3 with you're visa and entry stamp so no need to queue at exit immigration , just walk straight through

Turn to you're left and accross the road is the duty free area for very cheap cigarettes.

Get you're exit stamp and catch the bus back (20 baht )

On arrival back in Thailand complete Thai entry visa form and then continue to immigration and you should receive you're 30 day visa exempt entry

  11. Also, I don't know how it will affect Nong Khai but does anyone know when the rail link from China to Singapore will be complete?

The small (98 Sq meter) land I saw on the river and quite central was priced at 7 million baht.

Over priced for sure but it could be a sign.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

The rail link is a very big "if". All I can say is that re-visiting NK a couple of years after the bridge had opened it had appeared to hit the tourist trade quite a bit, it had become a transit point rather than a destination in itself. The town itself had grown considerably but it seemed that most of the tourist trade was passing straight through to Laos then. How much trade there is now for a GH is something that only boots on the ground can judge.

I've been living in nong khai 7 months now and it appears there's quite a lot of expats living here but not to many tourists . Competition is very high among bars and guest houses as there is more supply than demand. It's a great place to settle but a bit of gamble in my opinion to try and compete against the many already established businesses even if you're only trying to cover the running costs.

Why not come here on holiday for a month and get a feel of the place before thinking about starting a small business ?

  12. With out wanting to start a Thai bashing or political argument does any one understand the logic behind possible new changes ?

Is it the interim government who comes up with the new rules or immigration ?

The reason I ask is I've been living here for 7 months ( triple entry tourist from uk then double entry from Laos ) I'm not married to a Thai but we've been together for 2 years now. The problems I've got is I'm not 50 yet so can't get retirement visa. I'm financially secure but how can I stay here long term ?

Maybe people who have lived here for a long time and understand Thai culture/ logic can give some sensible answers ? . I love this country and it's people so don't want to hear the usual t.v shit.

I won't respond to any comments but would be interesting to hear sensible thoughts.

P.s another reason I say this is I've spent a fair amount of money here and think my money must be helping Thai economy

  13. What I don't like is not being able to update the software on my I pad 1 .

It used to be a good iPad but now keeps constantly crashing. I've looked on the Internet foe solutions to the crashing problem and found that many other people are having the same problem. People have contacted apple about the problems but apple simply say there is nothing wrong. I've rebooted it , deleted apps and eventually deleted everything and restored it to factory settings but still it keeps crashing

  14. I have a Vigo 3 litre, the T belt light came on at precisely 150,000 Kms as I was told it would by my mechanic.

Yep, there is a dash light to tell you to change it. 150,000 on a Vigo. This is the one time I would recommend having it done at a Toyota main dealer so you get a genuine part (hopefully). Many belt failures are because of an after-market belt fitted.

Thanks guys that sounds about right , when I looked it up on the web it said 100,000 miles so almost the same. Not sure if my model will have a warning light as its a very basic model but would like to think it has on some thing that important. I've got maybe another year or two yet before it needs changing but when it does I agree I will take it to a main dealer unless I do it myself

  15. Thanks for the non relevant replies so far ! , I've managed to research it myself and the BELT is recommended to be changed at 160,000 k

Well the owners manual for my Suzuki says 100,000 kms so given the lower revs of a diesel what you found seems to be in the ball park. The belt taken off my Suzuki didn't look any different to the new one! Not a complex job so better safe than sorry. Is this more relevant?

    Lol

The belt change times can vary massively between different vehicles including diesels. You're comment wouldn't of answered my question but yes it's definitely more relevant ! Hope I'm not sounding ungrateful for people's advice and thanks !

  16. He's only taking yabba about 3 times but that was enough to blow his mind

Sorry, but this is nonsense. All speed does in moderation is give you a lot of energy and a sense of euphoria. The real problem comes with using it all the time and not sleeping and eating. It becomes difficult to feel happy without getting high. Doing it 3 times would not hurt anyone who did not have some sort of serious mental problem already.

Sounds like you're an expert on the matter so who am I to disagree ?

I suggest you read a bit more about the effects of yabba on the Internet .

I have the guy living with me and know all his movements , which is never leaving the home.

He's never had a job so hence no money to buy yabba , as I said he was given it a couple of times about 3 years ago and messed him up for some time. He seemed to have recovered and was living with us end of last year and was ok until he went back to the village for new years eve , he took some that night and he's a terrified mess now and has been staying with us since jan 2nd he's NOT A REGULAR USER

  17. I guess no one forces this crap down his throat, so at the end of the day he going to fark himself up. Why would anyone care?

Do you drink beer / alcohol ? I hope you don't become an addict if you do.

Very narrow minded lots of things are addictive but yabba can have life long damage after only one or two times without ever taking it again so think about what you're saying
