Was chatting about Duterte with my (Davao) gf last night & she said that a lot of her family & friends are worried about the Drug Lords paying for him to be assassinated, the way he's acting, he's almost daring them to do it.
On a brighter note, we also talked about how you see far fewer beggars in Davao than you do in Cebu, Manila etc... & she explained that Duterte set up a number of homes where they could get shelter/food so there was much less of a need for people to go out begging.

According to the PNP (Philippines National Police) Davao IS (!) the murder capital of the Philippines. The killings go largely unreported - remember Duterte's demand for 'respect' from reporters? The killings by the Davao Death Squad include wide areas including Tagum to the north and Digos to the South. The victims include street children and beggars.
As for the rhetoric argument. 12 days ago the shooting started. General Santos City is also a smoke-free city. The mayor is an ally of Duterte. There is no indication for an independent investigation. It seems the police report suffices. The implications are obvious, me thinks....
4 drug suspects killed in General Santos City shootout
KORONADAL CITY, Philippines—Four drug suspects were killed when they traded shots with the police in General Santos City on Thursday evening, authorities said.
Superintendent Maximo Sebastian Jr., chief of the Regional Special Investigation Detection Team, said on Friday that policemen—backed by a search warrant—tried to enter the house of Banny Marohombsar in Barangay (village) Labangal around 9 p.m. but were met with gunfire.
He said the operating team returned fire and engaged Marohombsar and his companions in a shootout.
Marohombsar, Jasper Calapia Tondog, James Mercado and a certain “Pogi” were killed. Another suspect, identified as Tintin Tan, was arrested.
Recovered from Tan was a .45 caliber pistol. Several other guns and a still undetermined amount of illegal drugs were also recovered alongside the slain victims.

Google beings up loads of results that points to Davao being the safest city in Philippines with this one coming from the Numbeo site http://www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/local-news/2015/06/23/davao-now-4th-safest-city-414856 so effectively feedback from people who live there.
My personal experience is that it feels safer than Manila, Cebu & I've stayed many times 30mins north of Tagum (Kapalong) as that's where my Filipina gf of > 6 years is from.

But having been to Davao many times over the past 7 years, I can tell you the city there is a lot safer than Manila, Cebu etc... And the people seem a lot more laid back & relaxed about their lives.

So if you stay in a 100 sqm condo, you would pay 3000 per month?Most pay by the SM...mine is 30 per month...either they do a good job or they don't, that actual amount they spend is out of your control, as you can be assured of one thing...they don't care what the foreigner thinks or any great ideas for improvement he may have. The ones where it is only 2-300 per month, per unit, seem to be falling down, and need millions in roof/pool/common area repair.
Edited: apologies I was thinking in sqf (I am British [emoji4]) so was thinking you were in a 1000 sm condo paying 30k in maintenance

When I first read the OP, I read it as they were paying 30k pm & thought What!!!
But I'm guessing it's 30k split across 78units (approx 385 THB per unit).

It's interesting that whenever a topic on Brexit comes up, the responses on TV are overwhelmingly on the side of the leave campaign.
Personally, as long as DC can negotiate more sovereign powers over immigration & finance/tax etc..., I think we're better of "Inside the tent pi55ing out".

Tried restiring (in the UK) at 40 & was climbing the walls after 3 months so did some freelance consulting before finding a role that gave me what I wanted (chance to work in different countries).
That landed me in Singapore for 6.5 years before the company tried to move me back to the UK so I retired (again) at 49 & lasted 1 year (travelling) before being offered a new role in Singapore.
Been back 3 months (50 now), not sure how long (anywhere between 2 more months & 3 years) it will be before "Retiring" again but next time it will be permanently (3rd time's a charm).
One thing my experiences have taught me is that being financially ready is only 1/2 the battle, you also need to be mentally prepared & have something to fill your days besides beer/bars/birds.

less hassles and people are less violent....Making the difficult decision to move elsewhere...sold the condos and car...gave away the bike and furniture...left with a backpack and a briefcase...
I have found life less stressful in an English speaking country...better food, healthcare, less hassles and people are less violent...

Depends on your situation (working Vs retired, married/kids Vs single/carefree) but for me (working & single) Singapore is the best place.
So much so I came out of retirement & got another job here after 1 year (fair bit of which was spent in Thailand as I thought I was going to settle in Bangkok, but the traffic/pollution got to me).

Citi Bank at Asok on the ground floor of the Interchange 21 Building (corner of Asok Montri and Sukhumvit) will definitely allow you to withdraw at least 40,000 in one go. I haven't tried more than that so not sure if that is the upper limit.
That's weird as they only let me withdraw 15k in 1 transaction with my Singapore Citi ATM card, but as they don't charge for the transactions I just do it multiple times if I need more (haven't needed to get more than 30k but I'm assuming I'd be ok up to my daily limit if I needed to).
I have withdrawn 30,000THB in one go with the same card from one of the ATMs in Terminal 21, can't remember which bank but i think it was Krungsri.

In fairness the Non-UK spouse has to have the right to reside in an EU country so I'm assuming they would need to stay in one for 3 months to obtain an EU residency certificate & then be able to live in the UK under this, as anybody from the UK can do (see Surinder Singh route to UK residency (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surinder_Singh_route).
