smoking in any place where the public are admitted whether covered or not is illegal and punishable by a fine of 2000 thai baht for the smoker and 20.000 thai baht to the owner/

manager/driver Thailand has very strict anti-smoking laws. but like a lot of things in Thailand

it is not very high on the police's agenda

What about a public park. ?

    What about the beach ?

Fair enough - IMO its not complete show stopper, however, I think we'll end up agreeing to disagree....

.....when someone does smoke on a baht bus or in other public areas where non smokers are effected its a big deal for many.

Smoke blowing in peoples faces, ash getting in peoples eyes and at times embers landing on peoples clothes.... should those busy bodies just put up and shut up.. or should the smokers stop smoking where it effects others ?

    Sorry its a disappointment.

But as they say in thailand.

    Up to you.

Im happy for smokers to smoke out doors .   its no big deal :wai2:

You can certainly tell who the smokers are.... Its as if they truly believe that suggesting something else somehow dilutes the fact that smoking in public where it effects those who've chosen not to smoke is truly Antisocial.

Of course, there are other issues which require attention and many more serious, however, these activities are usually a necessity, crossing the road is a necessity and a choice, breathing in something else's second hand smoke on a baht bus or anywhere else is not a choice, it can be easily avoided if those who smoke were to have any consideration for others.

As this thread has shown, there are many who smoke who do have consideration for others, it is the few who give smokers a poor social image such as...

Unfortunately, many others do see the big deal....

    Im a none smoker.

Smoking on a baht bus,   get real.

its not a big deal. nonsense  busy bodies :bah:

In-line with the level of quality tourists & residents,  smokers here feel entitled to poison everybody around them. Their arguments to try to justify this nasty, disgusting habit and their right to light up anywhere and disrespect laws are ridiculous. There is really no point talking to anybody who feels he has to smoke  when in close vicinity or non-smokers. Best get up and leave, as far away from these smelly, disrespectful people. They will have a wake-up call when they get diagnosed with lung cancer. Trust me. Gone through it, due to second-hand smoke. Horrific, life-changing experience!! IMO smokers are plain dumb, with all the information that is out there.  MS>

You should be more worried about crossing the

road,     getting to the baht bus,    than death by second hand smoke. :wai2:

It is illegal to smoke or drink alcohol on a baht bus.

It has only happend to me a few times that someone has been smoking. They have all stopped when I have pointed this out to them.

The 2 occasions that some one got on sucking on a bottle of Chang, I have told them they are at risk of being pulled over by the police and they furtively stopped drinking and just kept the bottle at their side.

My method of telling them is straight to the point, look them straight in the eye and wait for it to sink in. Works every time.

Btw Baht busses are supposed to only carry a max of 11 passengers. 5 on each side in the back and one inside the cab. It is written in Thai script on the side....0 standing passngers. But..................

You tried  all that on the locals.  if not give it a go

    and report back :cheesy:

As a person who does find it objectionable particularly when they sit up by the cab and it blows in ones face, wounder what they would think should I be sitting up wind of them and broke wind after a very hot vindaloo.

Go for it,   make the trouser trumpet as loud as

you can,   if that's what your into.

  7. i would blame the Thai guy.

as there are no good  Thai ,  Riders / drivers in Pattaya.

They all do stupid stuff,   if not today, they would have done it yesterday.

Reckon the Thai rider just swooped across the lane as he missed his turning and

    this has happened.

But the falang will get the blame as usual,

so it dont matter,  who did what.

I have been told its some sort of auction system...I suppose the person with the fattest brown envelope wins.

at the beach further south of Jomtien in Bahn Ampur beach  a vendor told me it was ( from memory ) 50,000 baht per year

( my memory on this amount is hazy though )   I would imagine Pattaya beach is more expensive.

It may well be the true cost.

But a vendor will go straight into Lie mode,   when asked this type of question

regarding money,    they cant help it,    its a cultural thing of pattaya. :wai2:

What gets me is other Thais will say nothing even if they see this kind of thing. I have been pick pocketed, robbed at gun and knife point, had gold snatched from my neck by passing motorcycles, had things stolen out of my room, been over charged and short changed.

So tired of the Thai attitude towards Farang. They think we are all a bottomless pit of money and loss will not affect us!

If that was all in pattaya,    think you may need to rethink how you

go about your daily life,    as you must be doing something wrong

as we all know driving here is not for the faint hearted...

    deaths here are a daily event..whether it's a Car, Bus,Scooter,Bike...you name it...

    driver training is Zero..

shocking for us, but it's accepted here as part of day to day living....Sadly...

    Yes very true,

There is no consequences  for there actions,

the police dont prosecute the offenders.

small fine on your way,   that just not right.

A Hiso can kill people on the roads, and nothing is done to them, money changes hands if your lucky.

    all sorted,  shameful.

I never claimed to live in Thailand, but I am working with many who do, including Thai Police officers and many ex-pats. So keep up your correspondence bias. Makes no difference to me. I just wonder that with so much hate why you would want to live in such an ignorant horrible country yourself.

Ha Ha,     i just knew it,

    Have a nice day.

Yes i hate the murderous drivers riders of Thailand.  :wai2:
