In Japan recently and smoking is banned almost everywhere. However they do have smoking 'stations' around and all I had to do was walk 100 yards to find one. Not too difficult really.

Special bins for the cigarette butts etc that were emptied/cleared regularly.

It's not that difficult to do.

But the Japanese are different than other Asians. They follow the rules.

  2. When asked if he ever gambled, my uncle used to reply, "Only when I eat out."

In Pattaya, there is a street food place on South Pattaya Road, across from the Wat, and down about 100meters east, in front of 7/11. They are cheap and the food is great. Down a small side alley 50-75 meters west of that is another street food place that is very good. Both are west of Tukcom.

In Jomtien, there is a complex on the left, 200 meters south of where Theppraya road becomes Jomtien Second Road. There are many places there, but I have not tried any yet.

I really don't think it is any better going to a restaurant. The food usually isn't as good as street food, and way more expensive. I used to frequent the Boat Bakery restaurant on second road, but the portions are small,  and I am sure all the waiters are zombies.

Also, what do you guys think about the safety of eating street food? The food usually sits for hours on end in the heat.

  3. When I stopped by Kokette last week, there was one lonely chicken being grilled. This was right before 6 o'clock . Then she took it off the rotisserie, placed it next to a raw one, then put the raw one in. I don't see how they can do business grilling one at a time.

So much cheaper to buy chicken with ugly dirty skin ? 7 baht difference for a kilo at most supermarkets...

I don't think its only 7 baht difference. Just tear the skin off and throw it away or cook for the pets, as MD said. I cook chicken breast with the least amount of oil possible or no oil. I like my chicken like I like my ladies: fresh, pure and moist.

I bought a cooked chicken at Makro the other day. It was heavily spiced up. Not bad, but microwaving a piece brought up a ton of oil.

  5. I saw a minor scooter accident aftermath on Pattaya Klang. A Thai guy in his 20s had come off his scooter (it might have been a one vehicle crash), and was being attended to by paramedics, the main one being a white farang. The kid's face was scratched up, and he was walking with a limp. I was surprised to see a white EMT patching him up. I was not surprised to see at least twenty people taking pictures and videos of this poor guy.

Indeed, one major reason I am becoming somewhat of an excellent chef, if I do say so, myself...

Now that I've discovered Villa Market (not to mention Tops) within walking distance of the railway station in Udon (an 8 baht ride from my home) I've usually got the goods for making terrific meals, on my own...

Good man. You can make delicious wholesome food!

  7. My neighbor was a three pack a day smoker, who cut down to two packs a day. He told me he had been smoking  for 30 years. At 54, he had a stroke. It was pretty bad. He couldn't talk for weeks  He had a physical therapist come several times a week.

Now he is back to two packs a day.

What have you done to change your lifestyle to make it healthier?
