  1. I'm asked this question almost everyday in LOS. I am not caucasian so when I say I am from the USA then I get the "where you really from?". Is that racist? If so should I be offended and demand racial justice?
  2. Never made it to that step. Not even suer they do online or every prompt pay. Can’t get beyond “bring the gym manager”. I failed to apply the 3 rules for life in LOS: 1. Do not be efficient 2. Do not have a sense of urgency 3. Do not be on time
  3. I have been working out at an above average gym located in a below average hotel for the past two years. So far, so good until today. My current membership expires today and I went to the hotel cashier to pay for a few more months. I presented my gym member card which has my name, member number and photo. The cashier looked at the card and said “what is your room number”? I was not surprised by this because this cashier has only seen me coming into the hotel for the past two years. I replied I am a gym member and not a hotel guest. I then told him I would like to pay my membership fee. This caused a literal “five alarm fire”. The cashier then said “moment” and had about a five minute huddled meeting with the hotel manager and reception staff. The cashier then returned and said “bring gym manager. “. I went up to gym and asked the clerk for the manager. The gym manager was not in today and the gym clerk did not know when he would return. I went back down to the cashier and told him I could not find the gym manager. The cashier said “you come back with gym manager and pay”. So now it appears at this hotel gym fees have to paid to the cashier with the presence of the gym manager only. Okay I did not know this and learned something today. I read a few days ago Thailand was one of the global leaders in digital payments. Well not today and not at his hotel. The initials of this hotels are Orchid. As usual I as the foreigner was wrong for tying to pay my fee before membership expires. I failed to understand that the Gym manager has to watch as I pay the membership fee. But if Thailand as a country that allegedly aspires to modernize like S. Korea, Japan or Singapore then this kind of practice has to end. Just paying a simple fee or bill at times can be difficult when it does not have to be. On the otherhand if Thailand ever becomes a modern and efficient country then many probably could not afford to visit or live her.e.
  4. Wow. Because you called me "pathetic" therefore you must be a "genius"? I was the receiver of the package. Therefore, I would not have the right to demand compensation. As the receiver of the package I would only be entitled to receive on time delivery and/or timely notification of any delay. Of course I got neither.
  5. I did contact FedEx in the USA. Their call center is in India. FedEx claims to be an International company and they do not adjust their delivery deadline along national borders. This is an important lesson I have learned about FedEx: Depending on delivery destination the deadline stated on FedEx.com means absolutely nothing. Also, calling the 1-800 Customer Service means pretty much nothing. Therefore, I have done a lot more then you might think and much more has occurred than you might be aware of.
  6. Yes it is pathetic because FedEx has a standard for meeting delivery date and time deadlines. The Thai Version of FedEx seems to place a low priority on delivery dates and times. Also, on my first call to FedEx Thailand the rep claimed “package in Customs”. The FedEx tracking application clearly indicated the package had cleared Thai customs in under 2 hours and the package had been in Samui Prakan warehouse for mor than 10 hours. The package then was delivered at the end of the next day(a full 24 hours past it’s delivery deadline). But of course TIT-where deadlines mean very little. If it was “Siam” Delivery service then I would have nothing to complain about but it was FedEx(allegedly the global leader in On-Time Deliveries). Yes. your opinion must be right and I am pathetic in the extreme. Also, you lack the full context as to what the complete story about this issue is.
  7. Update. The Saga is over. I got a call from the FedEx driver at 400 PM on Saturday. He said “I am here”. Got the replacement card. I stand corrected: It took FedEx Thailand only 1.5 days to take my FedEx enevlope 400 miles. Progress in Thailand. Next time I send anything important to the US I will have to consider UPS or DHL in Thailand.
  8. It is more that that. 2 Million Baht is now approximately $56,000 + $560 annual fee. Thailand should consider offering a 5 year visa to anyone how buys a condo or apartment that is at least 3 or 5 Million baht. This would be an incentive for more foreigners to live or retire in The Land of Smiles. But of course this will not happen.
  9. Does Japan(like other advancedcountries) offer a long term Visa if a foreigner purchases real estate over a certain price.? Even the US offers foreigners who invest at least $500,000 in certain real estate an E2 Visa. Of course this is something Thailand has never done and will never even consider(yikes a “Free Visa”). This type thinking has and will always hinder Thailand from advancing.
  10. Wow. 3 years of extending Tourist Visa's. I will pass.
  11. A long term visa for retirement purpose is difficult to obtain or nonexistent in many Asian countries. Thailand's greatest attractions have been low cost and many visa options. 1. Singapore, and S Korea offer long term visas to foreigners. You just have to invest or purchase a condo worth least $500,000. 2. Malaysia and Bali both long term Visa's but the financial qualifiers are very high. 3. The PI has some long term Visa options but I can't seem to make "heads or tails" about the requirements. I'm not even sure if the SRRV program is available now? Of course one can get a Tourist Visa to some ASEAN countries and do the "Visa Run" program. Thailand is not perfect but it works for myself and many others. I would love to stay in S. Korea formany years but I just can't seem find the $500,000 in any of my accounts.
  12. I think they work mostly on visa related issues?
  13. Would anyone on this forum consider this as an acceptable answer from an international shipping company. The initials are FedEX. This is actually a continuation of my saga in getting a replacement card from USAA FSB in San Antonio, Texas. After a week of phone calls to USAA (it was mostly 100 AM for me) I got USAA to send me a replacement credit card through FedEx. I was given a tracking# and a delivery date and time. I thought my problems were over. I was wrong. The FedEx Tracking page showed the envelope took this route: 1. Indianapolis, In 2. Memphis, TN 3. Anchorage, AK 4. Guangzhou CN 5. BKK All this took under 3 days. Customs Clearance took 2 hours and then the envelope was sent to the logistics warehouse in Samut Prakan where it has been sitting for 2 days. FedEx missed the delivery date and time. I called FedEx customer service in Bangkok and got an "Amazing" response. The representative first said the envelope was still with customs. This was incorrect and I told her the tracking site does not indicate as such. She put me on hold and then another representative came on said "if possible we deliver next week". I said this was not okay. She then said "no choice you accept next week or you come to Bangkok and get your package". Now my sarcastic side pops up and asked "will you pay for my flight from Chiang Mai? Now she is angry and said "no you pay or you wait". At this point I gave up because in Thailand the foreigner is wrong most of the time. In essence "I should just smile, bow and walk away". Just another day in the Land of Smiles. It took FedEx International 3 days to take an envelope over 9000 miles but it will take FedEx Thailand 4 days to travel 400 miles. My guess is FedEx Thailand is a local company contracted by FedEx International. I wonder if Lazada or Shopee could do better? Smile, bow and walkway.
  14. I know I forgot a zero. I meant approximately 50,000. Also, without air to air refueling this aircraft has limited range and endurance. In essence one it is airborne with ordnance it needs to find a tanker. What next for the RTAF? Buy a single KC-135 or KC-10?
  15. “tests”? Did she have an endoscopy? I have had similar symptoms in the past. But I had an endoscopy that confirmed the H. Pylori diagnosis and also moderates gastritis. Gastritis is stomach inflammation which can cause stomach cramps(sometimes severe), and at times the inability to eat. I would recommend an appointment with a Gastroenterologist as soon possible.
  16. He was connecting with people through the Line App but I can’t seem to find it on my phone.. Some of the merchants from KSK have moved to Airport Plaza and I will ask if anyone there knows how to contact Khun Samkuan.
  17. Wow. $100 million per aircraft(probably higher because Lockheed Martins gives discounts for those who order more), $5000 per hour to operate and the pilots have to the training course in Fort Smith Arkansas. No insult to Arkansas or anyone who is from there but I drove through it once and decided I will never go back.
  18. Canceled my ACA policy back in 2017 and no penalty. I have had the same CPA for 35 years who files my tax returns and he said their is no issue because I put my Thailand address on my tax returns.
  19. I’m with USAA FSB and at all ATM’s in Thailand I am charged 220 Baht + 1% Surcharge on the amount converted from Baht to USD. I could also add USAA always converts at a lower exchange rate. Now I am only reimbursed a maximum of $10 per month by USAA.
  20. Today I went to a Supersports store in Chiang Mai to buy a pair of shoe laces at 59 Baht. There were two registers open and 4 people ahead of me in line. All four were paying by QR code scan. I got to the register to pay with cash 15 minutes later. Welcome to the future.
  21. Consider the Samsung Tab S7 FE. I will have to replace my 2017 IPad Pro sooner than later. The actual tablet works fine and I replaced the battery but the keyboard is fading and Apple stopped making it. Next tablet will be a Samsung.
  22. The new version is called Bivalent. I got it at a pharmacy in Southern California in late September. It had just became available to anyone over 50 in the US.
  23. Against. A few months ago there a college football game in Ireland. The food vendor in the stadium was cashless. The cashless payment system crashed. The Vendor did something unique: Everything was free during the game.
