  1. Hey All,

I have been looking online for a while for a forum frequented by visitors to Phuket... im not sure if this is the best place so tell me to go away if not (nicely of course :o ). Other sites seem rather dead as far as user activity goes. I get the impression that this forum is really for workers/expats but take pity on a nice friendly young man and point me in the right direction :D

Im a 26/yr male who will be visiting phuket alone in early September and I was hoping to find some good places to stay etc and maybe make some connections in the process. Im looking to do as much diving and sampling of the local food as possible. Mmmm Thai food. A few good nights out and meeting some new people would just be a major bonus as well.

Ive never been to Thailand before and cant wait... *images of gorgeous beaches springing to mind*

    Just general advice appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

welcome to the forum toski - the forum is for anyone really, it obviously helps if you have a connection to the country - either by holidays, work, relationships etc... there are plenty of us that arent expats so dont worry about that

my advice would be to check out the webpages of a handfull of dive shops in the area you wish to stay... they will be able to advise you of guesthouses and resorts etc that are close to the dive shops or closest to the departure points for daily dives

as for making a few connections - just contribute to the forum, have a good read - people will soon get to know your name and will be willing to meet up with you when you get out there later in the year

    all the best

  2. gonna mark it in the diary now...

me n the mrs missed out last year but will try to get there this time

    :D

Maybe we can get a few of us, we can all chip in for a minibus, i dont mind driving being a non drinker :D Me and the wife, you and your missus, i have a friend and his thai missus would probably be up for it. Get that monkey from cheltenham with us :D

    ok drive!

from the 666 camp there could be up to 8 adults, 2 kids

reckon you should take us up in a 40ft trailer or a waggon-and-drag from your work mate... not sure a minibus will be big enough :o

  3. what is it with these sorts of threads?

i read the forum and sub forums for weeks before joining so that i wouldnt make my first post some complete <deleted> that everyone laughs at...

some TV members lurked on the forum for months before actually signing up - reading, learning and generally getting a feel for thailand and the forum

    jeeeeezus gimme a break

what would yer mates or anyone else say if you said you met a girl 30 years your junior 10 days ago and now you wanna marry her...

you think the opinions from strangers on the net are gonna be any different? what dyou wanna hear??

    TROLL :o

  4. amd - yeah i know the overclockers are waiting for conroe to make its mark - but in my opinion all who know the chip performance history will know that amd will answer conroe with something new

they always have and im sure they always will - they have been at the top of the gamers and enthusiasts market for years - conroe will take the lead and level the playing field for a few months then amd will return with something better..

    its tit for tat

  5. Don't think it makes a difference. :D

Not when it comes to yourself, You won the picture page rating thing didnt you??

Beat most of us youngsters aswell

Is brit a handsome man, as well as an all-around good guy, gentleman and a scholar? :D

I do my best! :D Dunno people say I get more hansum the more they drink, should I take this as a compliment? :o

judging from yer mugshot you posted in the TV Members Gallery - Yes :D

  6. Liars, cheats and greedy people. People who will promote themselves at your or anyone else's expense. Little people who think only of themselves. People with no heart. Sorry people who fool themselves into thinking they are better than everyone else. Well, that leaves out all my friends on TV. :o

apart from my gripe with big brother - im with Tip on this one - much as i like to argue with him :D

  7. as a matter of course i tend to stay well away from the ladies forum and have done since becoming a TV member - purely because i dont feel particularly welcome posting there - unless i have something directly applicable to the topic...

in an ideal world - men could post what they like to everyone else without fear of upsetting the women, and women would do the same -

however this is afterall an online community and to separate the opinions, of men or women, into their own forum is futile in keeping the community as a whole alive.

its a shame that the ladies feel as though their subforum is likely to be trawled by males looking to start an argument or windup the ladies but thats the way it is - its an open forum and unfortunately for the ladies a primarily male dominated forum - any group is gonna have its <deleted>

i am in no way saying that the ladies should be attacked or have their women related threads exploited by men but i wouldnt think it was out of the ordinary given the amount of members here

there is also a "report offensive post" button to click if you have a problem

online communities require moderation - alot of moderation - there are plenty of male and female moderators here - so moderate....

  8. After reading this forum for many months, we finally bit the bullet and applied for a UK Visitor Visa for my girlfriend. The advice and experiences related on here were invaluable and we were successful first time without even an interview. This in spite of the fact that I had huge concerns that they would reject on "reason to return" grounds as my GF has no job or property. Seems a simple statement signed by both of us was enough to convince them on that point.

    Anyway, thank you!

congratulations mate - i actually found this forum about 8 months after getting my wife to the UK but jeeez wouldnt it have been easier if id known about the forum beforehand.... glad you got some help from here

    all the best

Anyone have any similar success stories or advice regarding tourist visa's for thai ladies to the USA?

farang2rung - sorry cant help you but there are plenty of US chaps on the forum that can help you out - be patient and wait for some replies - failing that just search through the "visas to other countries" forum

    all the best

  9. :o

is it just me that goes to patong then????

yeah ive seen the link at the top of the phuket forum - but i was after some opinions of hotels that you or your friends / family may have stayed in

    :D

  10. I mentioned the fact that without passing the test in Bangkok there was no way my wife would even be at Heathrow,

My wife didnt have any test at all untill arriving at Heathrow - Once there I asked if it were at all possible to get her XRays done asap in order for us to catch our coach back to Bristol...

All in all I think we were in and out in 30mins max - just the way it goes i guess.

  11. Wanted:

Hotel in Patong Beach Resort - either on Beach Road or near the Bangla Road

    1200-2200bht per night (double) March/April 07

    pool with kiddies pool attached

Would usually stay at Patong Villa as its got everything we would usually need - this year in our crowd will be 4 young children... so a kid friendly pool is a must

Have looked around on the net but looking at pics aint the same as first hand experience... so if youve got any recommendations id appreciate hearing em.

  12. I wouldnt entertain the idea if confidentiality is paramount to you. There are however ways to share the one connection into separate networks but i wouldnt suggest getting involved with that unless you

a] have some understanding of VLANs & Routing

b] wish to buy a Router

c] need to share the single connection.

  13. farang deaths in Thailand prove so appealing for the scumbag British press - even more juicy when there's paedophilia involved.

that'll be another few million sun-reading chavs looking down on Thailand and anyone who visits.

its not hard to admire the no-bullshit style of alot of your posts g4s.. yet again i have to agree
