Why would a developing nation with a comparitevely weak economy want to let all its prime real estate be taken by foreign investors - hiking up house prices almost everywhere? Thailand does pretty well out of the tourist industr - no need to let ouside investors actually buy the country!
Commercial and residential real estate ownership is a key lynchpin in any country's economic policy to attract foreign investment. That's why. And that's one reason why the USA, Europe, and Japan are in the economic stratosphere compared to Thailand.
Really? You honestly believe that? So with an open real estate policy Thailand would be pushing Japans USA and other European power houses? mmmm not really related to geographical factors and 100's of years of historical events then!
China is not doing too badly with an even more regulated system!
What do you think the cultural knock on effects would be? Thai fishing communities get pushed around enough now as it is by deveopers - with a much bigger market they would be obliterated - You really want to see Thailands scenic coast become entirely a second home community for the western rich?

With names like Sajid Mahmood, Ravinder Bopara, Owais Shah, Amjad Khan and Vikram Solanki in their squad they'll be hard to beat.
Err, that's England I'm talking about.
Yes England is a multi-cultural society Dgoz. In fact has been for around 50 years! Is this actually news to you?

Almost coming up to the first anniversary of Thailand Visa's most exciting, skillful and fun interactive forum game (which involves google earth)!

Saving face and non-confrontation has it's pros and cons. The reason Thailand and Thais appear laid back and outwardly non-judgemental is due to this. However I also have some issues with it. For example a few years ago my then GF was receiving some unwanted attention from a middle aged and often drunk Japnaese businessman. Her way of dealing with this was to be extra polite and extra 'smiley' towards him as this would teach him the right way to be - obviously i argued that if you behave like this then how will he ever know he is doing anything wrong! She argued it was not the Thai way to confront him over his behaviour.
I do believe that a number of Thais will exploit this social convention to their advantage - and it obviously benefits those with power.

A duck walks into a pub and says to the barman: "Got any bread?" Barman says: "No." Duck says: "Got any bread?" Barman says: "No." Duck says: "Got any bread?" Barman says: "No, we have no bread." Duck says: "Got any bread?" Barman says: "No, we haven't got any f*#@ing bread." Duck says: "Got any bread?" Barman says: "No, are you deaf, we haven't got any f*#@ing bread, ask me again and I'll nail your f*#@ing beak to the bar you irritating c*nt of a bird!" Duck says: "Got any nails?" Barman says: "No." Duck says: "Got any bread?

Lots of kind decent people throughout Thailand, and the stories make good reading. But I don't think we should be too blurry eyed and naive about Thailand. Start a topic on kind gestures in any geographical location in the world and the response would be similar (even London!) - perhaps we just take them for granted a bit more when they happen in our own cultural setting!

It amazes me that people shout troll each time a post like this comes along - but anyone who has spent any time in Thailand will meet losers and nut cases (yes, farangs!) in far more unrealistic and bizare situations!

hey all Im just wondering if there are any good movies out there about thailand like "Broken Down Palace and I believe Blood Sport with Jean Claud Van dam, Remember they have to be native english speaking but filmed in thailand like those two I mentioned above. Thx I know there's a few more movies out there but I forgot the names. o ya and "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story", had a fighting part in Thailand which was pretty cool. thx peeps,
There are a whole heap of films to do with Thailand, most of them are very substandard - but if you actually rate the films mentioned in the OP you may as well check them out.
Butterfly Man - laughably bad as taken as a whole but remarkably spot on in some places.
Bridget Jones 2 - More lazy Thai cliches.
The beach - So bad I didn't make it to the end.
Bangkok Hilton - run of the mill prison drama.
Air America - not seen it but apparantly poor.
A number of the Emmanuelle films are related to Bangkok - dull
Why not look for Thai made films and read the subtitles? Recommended are Bangkok Dangerous, Full Moon Party, Ong Bak (although it is a bit poor!), Beautiful boxer, Last life in the Universe, Jan Dara and Tears of the Black tiger.
Not seen 'Blissfully yours' and 'Tropical Malady' but they are apparantly well regarded.

Well i thought this was pretty obvious. Surely everyone knows that all pretty Thai women (yes, for some reason only the attractive ones) secretly fantasise about bisexual experimentation - most of these fantasies involve a really hot girl and a fat, balding, middle aged farang! Not yet met a pretty Thai girl who doesn't think about this nearly every waking moment. I'm afraid kF6vci your GF has not got eyes and feelings just for you - so you'd better bin her! Such a shame!

The great Muralli will be past Warnes tally in a few months!
But fair play, Warne, the second best spinner of his generation has done well!
One's a fine spin bowler, and the other is a dead-set chukka!!
You reckon? Must admit i'd never noticed any thing wrong with Podgy's action - must have a closer inspection during the next test!

You get a smooth traffic free ride to the new airport - but thats because all other traffic is banned because of another coup - this time Thaksin has returned!
Guardians snake avatar does a belly dance, but watching this you feel a sense of complete depression knowing that you have wasted a wish on something as pointless as this. This regret lives with you for the rest of your life - as you think if only i used the one about Shakira and massage instead!
I wish I could start every morning sharing a shower with Myleene Klass
