The Thai Education Ministry is set to revive a decade-old initiative, which was originally launched by a previous Pheu Thai government, to distribute a tablet computer to each student and teacher across the country. This initiative aims to promote equal educational opportunities.

The announcement was made yesterday by Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob and his deputy Surasak Phancharoenworakul, both members of the Bhumjaithai Party in the Pheu Thai-led coalition. During a gathering of ministry officials, their stated goal was to endorse good learning, with happiness.

Permpoon revealed that every student would be granted a tablet computer to lessen their expenses and diminish disparities in educational opportunities under the one student, one tablet scheme. He added that he was currently evaluating the total cost of the scheme, suggesting that if the current budget was not adequate, tablets could be obtained through borrowing or renting.

However, A previous Democrat Party MP, Suchatvee Suwansawat expressed his concern about the programme to the Bangkok Post. While he concurred with the use of modern technology to assist learning and minimise educational inequality, he was hesitant about the scheme.

Pheu Thai running the government wants to revive giving tablets to all school children and teachers... haha.. they must still have accounting on the profits gained from the last time they did this scheme..  perhaps this is how they plan to get the money to give all Thai 10000 baht. The tablets scheme last time was full of problems. Most of which the cost the government said they paid for and the equipment received did not balance out... then there was the problem that teachers has allowing kids to use them in the classrooms for actual school work.. let's not forget that not all families.. have the internet to use a tablet at home for school work.. but I guess new leadership men's developing new scams or using old scams they worked well in the past to generate extra income for the politicians.

Does he have to provide reasons why he should get the royal clemency?

    Good behavior - fail.

He is really sorry for his crimes - fail.

He compensated the damaged parties - fail.

He will never do it again - fail.

He was already a substantial time in jail - fail.

I am sure we could add 100 other reasons why he doesn't deserve what he asks for.

I'm sure he could provide a billion reasons to grant it.

Well we can all make smartass comments but none of us on AN actually has a clue as to his real state of health or what the current plans by and for him are.

It is certainly not impossible that he might be genuinely suffering the ailments that rich people of his age usually suffer (too much lavish foods, too little exercise, too much stress ... ), and all the excitement of the last few days has been almost more than his oldish body has been able to cope with ...

I guess we'll be in a better position any week now to offer yet more demonstrations of our collective nous and humanity.

You may be well and correct.. but it is obvious he is receiving special treatment and not as if he was a criminal in prison. This fact alone would make anyone with common sense know all this was played out as planned.

The powers-that-be may have been able to hold off MFP for now, but the genie is out of the bottle and the progressive movement will only get stronger as time goes on. A mere tip of 10,000 baht, IF the handout happens, won't be enough to enamour the electorate with the Party of Thaksin again. Young people do not care about PT.

There will be change soon enough. You can count on it.

Perhaps.. but maybe instead people will start getting more money in their pockets and change their minds. Money is the key... Thaksin knew this before.. So did the red shirts.. Especially the new law reducing payments to the elderly monthly..  Not alot of people are happy they have to send more money to family members because of this. Bad move for the last government. But maybe that was planned also . Reduce it now and when their new leader takes office increase it even more. Hmm.. something to think about..makes him look so good.. I would bet there were many things planned to get this new pm.. just took time to get it all on place.  I will not be surprised if he steps down for medical reasons and allows the real leader meant to be there take over.

  5. I'm sorry for this Thai couple... What a shame the police are there for arresting them. Clearly the fetis was a miscarriage and they were only practising their right to busy it. How can this be illegal? I can understand if it was illegally aborted... But a fall causing the miscarriage is not a crime. Nor would I think it is a crime to bury it. I wonder how large the brown envelope will be for them to be released and charges dropped for this bad arrest.

Does anyone react to hearing someone shout for help in Thailand?

Yes.. lots of men would quickly run to help if they were hearing the call to help join a fight or beating to a foreigner. Only problem is they would help the person doing the beating or fight against the foreigner. Hehe.. is this not the reason why there is never a one in one fight between a Thai and a foreigner?

  7. Thais on social security haha.. they make about 600 baht monthly.. They can not even afford to live in Thailand without some other income. At the very least if they did manage to afford to get to the USA. They could most likely find work to sustain them. They would not need to waste time every 90 days reporting in immigration nor would they need to do any of the other stupid things required to live here.

It seems to be that any crime I have been reading in the news lately is being attributed to foreigners retired here. Which I find hard to believe as most foreigners retired here do so without being gangsters.

Must be good to be a traffic police in Thailand, they only work for a week every 3-4 months.

Wrong, I thought they worked near the end of month to get their criteria  before payday?

Saw quite a few ummm inspection checkpoints along the way south the other day. But driving on Friday morning I saw nothing to help elevate the congestion caused by minor fender benders. No cops arriving at the scene to get them to move to the side of the road.. however, I saw in other places several just standing around on the side of the road. My normal 5 hour drive turned into an almost 10 hour drive.  Hmph.

  9. Flying in airplanes have the stupidest rules for seating though when thinking about it. I flew to china once on Thai airways... The first 20 rows were empty the whole flight. When I asked If I could move to one of those seats.. they refused. So I asked them if those seats were special or different in anyway.. they said no. But I was assigned my seat and had to stay there. Cramped like a sardine in a tin can. I think they just don't want to have to manage all the plane if half it it is empty.. better to keep all passengers in discomfort elbow to elbow and foot to ass-igned seat in front of them.

Unfortunately it doesn't say what happened to this person, he could of been released 30 minutes later for all the clapping internet knows - in which case likely consider a win? Fast tracking deboarding and upgrade. Was he banned from future Thai airways flights? Was the return part of his ticket canceled? Was he charged?

  10. Even with the work permit and marriage visa and an 80,000 baht income monthly.  My wife could not use me to guarantee out house loan or car loan. Their rules regarding foreigner share the same attitude most Thais share being that we are not Thai. If it happened in a 1st world country the bank would be sued for very large amounts. No matter what a foreigner does here. Marries Thai and makes family and their lives here. We foreigners will always be treated as a stranger.

The guarantor route is the way many Thais go in order to buy a new car and do not have the money to show they qualify.  A friends wife had to do the as the friend would not pay for the car outright and a loan from Krungsri Auto was needed.  The local School director, the friend of the woman's father signed as the guarantor.  The FIL could not sign as he had two cars and a tractor on loan payments.  Of course my friend made the monthly payments so no issues, but just think of those who are not so lucky to have a foreign payment maker in the house.  You may ask, why did not the foreign husband sig as the guarantor and the answer was he is a retiree on a retirement extension of stay and has no WP so the bank would not loan the money for the car with him as the guarantor.

Those who take the loan default and the guarantor is on the hook and as you can see the stress is too much.

If you can not qualify for aa loan then the banks really should not be making the loans.

  11. It seems too much the coincidence that as soon as the MOPH approves giving vaccines to kids aged 5 to 11.. There is a sudden increase in covid cases for children here in Thailand. I am not saying they are connected because I do not want to have someone knocking on my door to collect tea money for saying false information... Just saying I noticed this increase in kids cases just after that announcement was made. Can anyone elaborate?

Phuket police deny ‘robbing’ foreigners, defend traffic checks

PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police have defended their officers standing in front of a restaurant in Patong after a post online accused police of “destroying tourism” and quoting foreign tourists as being “robbed”.

The response by Phuket Provincial Police, saying that the police officers were only doing their duty as traffic police, was posted online late yesterday (Nov 24).

The response came after a post on the “Phuket Sandbox – SHA Plus” Facebook page on Sunday (Nov 21) showed a photo of police officers in front of the “Kitchen” restaurant, located next door to the well known TaiPan nightclub on Rath-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd, at the intersection with Bangla Rd.

The police use these checkpoints as a collection booth. They could not possibly find traffic violators driving poorly at a checkpoint.  They could not prevent any accidents as well sitting there in one place demanding fines paid on the spot. This is not police enforcement or traffic laws. When will they begin to do real police work? I thought these checkpoints were supposed to be stopped by the government. I guess loss of income to the upper brass made them forget this quickly

Hope all the 'dirty farang' who have satisfied all the requirements to enter Thailand boycott KSR and spend their money elsewhere

"the traders' association at Khao San Road were adopting their own measures to fulfil the requirements of the latest Covid protocols called "Thai Stop Covid Plus". " So these people know better than the MOPH 5555 ????

Almost anyone nowadays that can read know more than the MOPH.. They can read also but seem to have blind spots when seeing something read that doesn't agree with their thinking.
