Nationwide Face Mask Distribution Begins to Combat Air Pollution
tomazbodner replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
KN94/N95 do have moderate effect on pollution but only when fitting the face well (which most people don't know how to achieve), then you have apart from the proper respirator like on your photo also electronic respirators - they use fans and HEPA filters. Probably most popular was LG Pure Care. But they are expensive and battery doesn't last very long, so they are OK for someone using it for a couple of hours outside, but not for someone wearing it all day. It is however more comfortable to breathe in due to fans blowing air inside and trying your face if it's hot. Because of the fans blowing in and having higher pressure inside than outside, they also don't have to seal that well, although the silicone mask around your nose and mouth is quite tight. https://www.lg.com/levant_en/air-care/lg-ap300awfa -
Trump's call with Danish PM sparks alarm & International Tension
tomazbodner replied to Social Media's topic in World News
What cause for concern? That would be green light for Russia to take the other half of Greenland and Eastern Europe, and China to finally take Taiwan, which would mean the only foundry that keeps US technologically ahead of China would become Chinese. And no, with the speed that this is happening, TSMC would not be opening another foundry in US, so you'd be stuck with Intel at 95%+ failure rate. Or Samsung, which begged TSMC to make their advanced stuff, a request that was denied. So basically what Trump is doing would doom US technological companies and hand the dominance to China. Which, btw. has most if not all minerals, deemed "critical raw materials". And they already closed the tap on several of them to US. MAGA Masterplan! -
Where's misleading part? He called Danish Prime Minister, he was "aggressive and conflicting", threatening with tariffs and military action if Denmark refuses to hand over Greenland. Now Germany and France got involved: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/08/france-warns-trump-against-threatening-eu-sovereign-borders-greenland There's nothing misleading about the headline.

Trump’s $500 Billion AI Plan Leaves Europe in the Dust

I am sure someone said something similar about their technological advancements 20-30 years back.... And don't ever look at China as a socialist or communist state. They are the worst example of turbo capitalism, hiding behind communist mask. -
Trump’s $500 Billion AI Plan Leaves Europe in the Dust

And despite starting from first position, US is already falling aside... So possibly too little, too late. https://www.ft.com/content/747a7b11-dcba-4aa5-8d25-403f56216d7e DeepSeek, founded by hedge fund manager Liang Wenfeng, released its R1 model on Monday, explaining in a detailed paper how to build a large language model on a bootstrapped budget that can automatically learn and improve itself without human supervision. The challenge of this is that DeepSeek only uses below 5% of resources large AI players in US do, and that it gives it away for free, rather than 200$/month OpenAI charges. This puts expectations of making large returns on investment in US-based AI field on thin ice. One also needs to remember that OpenAI loses amounted to $5 billion in 2024 and are increasing due to "high usage" of their paid plans, which cost them a lot more to run than $200/month customers are paying for it. It is expected OpenAI to suffer losses of over $14 billion by 2026. Hence for users, DeepSeek seems a clear winner, just don't ask it anything about China. For investors, though... now that Wenfeng opened the Pandora box and told everyone how to build a model that beats OpenAI at a fraction of cost... to me this is like a Linux moment. Let's see what comes out of this but I think US is bound to lose supremacy battle, with or without the $500 billion from Japanese, which they don't have anyway. -

Went to The Mall yesterday. Traffic was worse than before free public transport, and shopping mall was full of people buying air purifiers... Even most expensive models were going out the door which I honestly haven't seen before... But the cheaper, standard models... all sold out. -

Thailand's Auto Industry Faces Crossroads: BEVs or ICE Transition?
tomazbodner replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Which makes perfect sense for the usage of cars in Australia. EV cars are in close to first generation and technology to make them practical for such use is still years away. But if you think back - first generation of most products was garbage. It wasn't for everyone. But those who embraced it have financed improvements which then made them practical for the masses. No direct pollution vehicles are likely going to be the same, especially in places that suffer from severe air pollution. -
