In a country in Europe I'm just back from I've heard the announcement on radio that not moving to the side of the road to allow ambulance to pass carries a 5000 EUR fine. With number of such incidents reported in Thailand every year, maybe there's a way to discipline drivers into giving way to those trying to save lives...

I'm no fan of Boeing aircraft or company, but Dreamliner is my favourite bird from them, and TG already has a handful of them which I've flown several times. They do look a little dated from the outside but still wonderful to fly. So it makes sense for the airline to increase the fleet of these, regardless of politics.

Thais are waiting the whole year for these few days when they can behave like 5 year old children. Suggestion to make it only one day for the sake of not losing business is like saying scrap the Christmas and New Year holidays as they are bad for business. Imagine how much money bars and alcohol shops could make during that days of closures... And how much money is lost when people travel other places to spend money... Maybe should ban travel altogether so people spend money at home? Net effect of Songkran is positive and there are loads of childish foreigners flying into Thailand to join the fighting... in fact I think foreigners are behaving far worse than Thais when it comes to water games. But listen, this is Thailand and is ran by Thai people. They decide what they want to do and Songkran, a Thai New Year, is deeply engraved into their culture. I admit that I hate this week enough that I get to airport and get the hell out of here just before splashing starts... but that's not because of Songkran itself - which is a very gentle affair of washing away the bad of the past year, but because of what it turned to. There's a massive difference between traditional songkran, celebrated at home, or pouring fragnant water over someone's hands, wishing them good luck, and having a bucket of water emptied on you from a passing pickup. So maybe it's not Songkran that should be shortened or removed, but the water wars limited to areas where those "young at heart" can go and play Russians and Ukrainians.

Well... if she was arrested before the immigration counter, even if she had 20k, the rules of surrendering to border immigration would not apply and she would be treated like if she was picked up anywhere on the street in the middle of Thailand. That's something that was discussed many times before. When on overstay, keep low profile and get to the immigration counter, it's only after that, that the lower penalty rules come into play.

I agree that doing nothing is not a good way forward, and something needs to be done to get the debt, spiraling out of control, back in check. But HOW Trump approached it, destroying the global economy and doubling down on something that is very unlikely to work for US, and would probably affect US even more than others. So no, I don't agree with this tariffs. But agree with likely outcome of his ill conceived actions on Joe Citizen and the rest of the World.
