  1. Article on EV depreciation in the UK: The fastest depreciating EVs unveiled - including Audi, Kia and Tesla (msn.com)
  2. Currently, we would need to have two cars, and EV and a standard diesel for longer journeys. I don't see that as being very "green". Yesterday we did an unexpected trip to visit a sick family member, Chiang Rai province to Chiang Mai and back in the same day, it was probably 500km return and of course over hilly terrain, bad for battery range, and return journey was in darkness. Tell me how that would be possible with current EVs ? We were only there for 2 hours at most, how much charge would a standard 230v outlet have given ? Charging points at local MG dealer or shopping malls is irrelevant for that scenario. I'd love to have just an EV as a sole car, but it is the range more than anything else that is critical to me. That will come of course, as battery technology and technology in general improves. So, yes to an EV but "not yet" is my current view. It is great to see the government is providing some subsidies for sure.
  3. 15Mb is fast enough for my needs. The vendor does the registration for you if I read their messages correctly, give them ID and selfie as you suggest.
  4. I'm looking for something like this as well: [ ส่งฟรี ] Sim DTAC ซิมคงกระพัน 15Mbps ไม่ลดสปีด เน็ตทั้งปี ไม่มีหมด internet Unlimited โทรฟรี ซิมเทพดีแทค ซิมดีแทค 15mbps 1ปี มีใบกำกับภาษี ราคาถูก Simnet 789 | Lazada.co.th Just need to be clear that it includes unlimited hotspot usage. Not sure about DTac though. I've found AIS to be incredibly good in terms of data speed so at least it is something that I know. As always, depends on the area.
  5. The iX1 looks fantastic to my eyes, and also looks like it could be a brilliant car. Pricing will be key !
  6. Interesting, I didn't know BMW had a plant in China. I think details of that financing agreement are: *** Monthly installments are calculated from price with BSI STANDARD package according to the Hire Purchase with Balloon agreement, with a 35% down payment for a period of 60 months and a final 35% Balloon payment of the retail price
  7. Thanks for that info. So quite reliant on Gas, plus some coal and some imported energy. Hydro makes sense where it is possible. With the millions of air-conditioning units running the country's power requirements must be large.
  8. This is completely unrelated sorry, but I've always wondered how Thailand generates its electricity. There is no nuclear I'm pretty sure of that, but I've not been able to find out much information on it.
  9. I asked the bank to photocopy them for me when I went in to get the confirmation of balance letter and they were happy to do so.
  10. In Chiang Rai it was all the same as above, except that I did not provide a map and was not asked for one, and my wife's Tabian Ban and ID card were not signed .
  11. Well it does say Compact SUV ???? More like a "crossover" if that has any meaning also !
  12. Well, I would be inclined to put small amounts of money in there periodically to keep the account active.
  13. That policy is fantastic value in that situation then. I looked at the MSIG Policy wording - the cover ends on the earliest of your departure from Thailand or the policy end date. So it will cover one trip only.
  14. Yes, but it is worthless if you don't take a pre-departure PCR test. If you just want something to satisfy Thailand Pass process then OK of course.
  15. If anyone is still reading - MSIG cannot change the dates on their Thailand Pass insurance policies. You have to buy a new one, and if you then email them the new airline ticket they will refund the old policy (which is not immediate)
  16. Yes, they say "Within 7 days" but you never know if something got lost in the translation, or if they may interpret differently... However I just looked at the Thailand Pass itself again, and it has the actual dates stated on it, "Valid For Entry From" and "Valid For Entry Until". Crystal clear, sorry for wasting everyone's time
  17. Ah, well my travel plans have changed again. I'm not used to this situation ! I've had to change my flight to exactly 1 week earlier - 24th May instead of 31st May. Same flight number same departure time but 7 days earlier. I assume I can just use the same Thailand pass ? I'll contact MSIG on Monday to change the start date of the insurance policy.
  18. Thanks all, insurance is probably OK as it is, I bought 60 days cover and I'll be traveling 2 weeks earlier, so that still leaves 45 days post-arrival. But I'll probably change it anyway to avoid possible confusion.
  19. I already have my Thailand Pass, but unexpectedly I may need to change my travel date by two weeks. Is it simply a matter of applying for a new pass and disregarding the existing one ?
  20. What does make it a little more complicated though is if the wife's Thai passport is in her maiden name, and the UK one in her married name ! Under current rules it won't be possible to renew the UK passport in that situation.
  21. Yes, Chiang Rai immigration office ignored it for me. I left Thailand 3 weeks overdue for a 90 day report, and when I returned and renewed my retirement extension they did not even mention it.
  22. A good case there for pensioners living abroad being paid more, not less !
