Thai Government Prepares to Recruit Thais to Address Labor Shortage
Eric Loh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is timely for the government to review the minimum wage and make changes to a competitive wage structure determined by market demand and supply for labour. It will help attract Thais and will also give a boost to the domestic economy. -
Buriram’s fried pork balls more popular than ever!

It’s pop culture. You will never understand as you in the wrong age group. -
Lots of trade potential for Thailand and Yunnan. Open up landlocked Yunnan province with a population of 84 million for investments both ways. Will also attract FDI into Thailand for countries that wish to exploit the economic opportunities. Kunming is a lovely tourist city with a Mediterranean type climate and Thailand too will offer a desirable destination for tourist from Yunnan.

Anutin: No one said we'd open the country and Bangkok on October 1st
Eric Loh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Because no one respect you nor respect your authority and your position. -
Total agreement. 3 years ago, the NACC snub the general public by refusing to disclose the investigative report and just gave a conclusion with a verdict vindicating Prawit of any wrongdoings. Now that the Criminal Court gave their order for full disclosure, the NACC will have to open up the report to the public. We can expect the report to be highly skewed and the verdict unlikely to change but at least we can hope that others can scrutinized the report and find evidence of malfeasance to charged the relevant officers. Credit to K Veera to keep pushing for transparency and accountability of this case.

Mine delayed a week. The hospital sent me a message. Called up and was told that supply was the reason for the delay. Still within the 10-12 weeks timeframe. Not concerned.

PTT and Foxconn sign deal to make electric vehicles in Thailand
Eric Loh replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Think it's electric car parts rather than making electric cars especially the electronic components that Foxconn has the technical expertise. -
The new restrictions by the China Banking Regulatory Commission to cut off fundings are targetted at countries like UK and Australia. They encourage investments into countries that have have association with the One Belt and Road projects. Thailand is the top draw property investment destination of the Chinese.

The Malaysia MM2H new policies are really draconian with the quadruple increase of the monthly requirement, rising the fixed deposit requirement by a whopping 567% and rising the liquid asset by 329%. Idiotic proposals that deserving got a backlash. It’s put on hold till Dec 22. Fewer than 1 in 20 current visa holders would be able to meet the new requirements. The Thai proposals are actually different from the Malaysian as it aim to attract and entice new wealthy foreigners and not targeted at current visa holder foreigners of which most staying here. So I don’t understand the outcry. However I do sympathize with then on the fact that things can change on a dime here.

There are sufficiently large numbers of high net-worth individuals - the same kind that wealth managers and investment bankers target - in the world to settle in the countries that can offer them good health care, nice weather and good array of food. An estimated 200 million retirees worldwide living of pension or savings and looking for a nice country to stay. Enough high income people for the Thai government to target and attract with new incentives. Other countries are doing the same -re-jigging of investment policies. All facing decline in tourist revenues during covid and post covid and needed new policies to appeal to these wealthy folks. .

Over 84% of Thailand’s COVID fatalities had not been vaccinated
Eric Loh replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I am not surprised by the withdrawals. Many instances of FDA and EPA approvals taken off the registration as new health and safety data surfaced. Drugs are rigorously tested for years before approval and these trials typically focus on a small number of patients. Once the drugs are approved and made available to larger number of people, issues will invariably pop up. The warp speed development of COVID-19 vaccines came out of urgency to combat a fast spreading pandemic. So far, the vaccines have done a remarkable job to save lives. There are inherently some uncertainties but the benefits have proved to outweigh the negative beliefs of some. -
Bangkok taxi fares are among the cheapest for a major city in the world. Most major cities fares for a short distance of 3 km ranged from 160B (Singapore) to 200B (HK). In Bangkok it is about 45 B for the same short distance. Taxi driving is tough and really don't pay well as the government keep fare reasonable for consumers while failing to keep up with increasing operating cost. The last fare revision is 7 years ago in 2014. Like you I always leave a small tip and they deserved it.
