Driver blames “faulty GPS” for driving into a lagoon in Chonburi
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I feel sorry for the guy as he's now lost his car. The lighting isn't great on many of the roads here especially away from the main roads. The guys rear window isn't heavily tinted either which I think is worth noting. Google maps does also get confused sometimes when the GPS signal is poor. I'm not saying I'd drive into a lagoon like him but driving can be difficult here. -
Skyrocketing pork prices drive street meals up by at least five baht
alien365 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Do you not understand that many of us are unhappy with the price increases because we know this is causing further hardship for others? -
The police would be seriously rich, or have a price on their heads, if they started handing them out in my province.

Submarines are vitally important for Thailand - but not right now

I'm guessing from history the Japanese identified a key weakness in defence. -
They have parking tickets here? I seriously never knew.

I've just got the tape measure out and mine are 95cm and 98cm. I asked for 1 metre but it looks like I was short changed. At 6 foot 3, the surfaces in our previous place were way too low for me and was not good for my back. I'll admit the surfaces are too high for the rest of the family who stand on a small stool. At first I thought it would be good for them, as the in-laws don't have the best eye sight so I thought they'd be able to see better. Now I end up kicking their stool every time I'm in the kitchen so it looks like karma is catching up with my decision to think about my self for once.

Thai hotel threatens customer with ฿3m lawsuit over bad review
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
So many of the resorts in Khao Yai look atrocious to me and designed for the selfie crowds. Clearly there's a market for them but I'd never spend the money asked to stay in those places. I much prefer something more down to earth near a national park. -
I'm surprised it wasn't more based on my short drive on Phet Kasem yesterday. It felt a lot darker than normal with the streetlights and headlights not helping visibility at all. I think this made some drive with full beam on making it even more difficult to see anything. Bikes were so hard to spot, mostly going very slowly as were random cycles.

Education Ministry prepares hybrid Children’s Day event

Poor kids. Surely this is a punishment, not a reward. -
As usual, lose the Christmas weight I have put on. I hate my <deleted> it its Christmas mentality but its ingrained. Its easy enough to do though, drink less, snack less, and don't eat spicy food for lunch as it stops me exercising in the afternoon.

27th TITF Launches with a Focus on “Premium” Domestic Trips
alien365 replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
Sounds about right. They've got to line the pockets of their hiso friends. Lower cost family run businesses can forget about it as they mean nothing. That's how I read it anyway. When I travel I try my hardest to support the smaller businesses, smaller food stalls and the like, so I can't help feeling annoyed by this constant rhetoric for quality or premium tourists. -
The grand tour, Jaaggs episode. Downing half a bottle of wine and saying its corked. I love watching those three mess around. It's like they're my mates. Even something silly like Jack Whitehall and his dad. I know I shouldn't find it funny, but I can't help it. His dad is naturally the star of the show with his directness.

I buy these and really like the snug fit and comfort. They are not cheap but they are reusable for 30 washes. I also send them to my family in the UK as they work well with glasses (no steaming if worn correctly). You can get in blue and white also if colour is important

New Year Spending Hits 12-Year-Low Due to Omicron Fears
alien365 replied to Jonathan Fairfield's topic in Thailand News
If those figures are for the week ahead it looks like I'll be well below average. New year is just meh, during these times. Spent a fortune over Christmas though. -
Is Thailand really getting more expensive?
alien365 replied to BritManToo's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
We had some friends round on Christmas eve (outdoors on the terrace) and we used paper plates and plastic cutlery even (were bought years ago). The last thing I want is to start a 'keeping up with the Jones'' situation with my friends for standards sake. -
Is Thailand really getting more expensive?
alien365 replied to BritManToo's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I like to buy nice things but the in laws just break them if I do (not intentionally). We now have a mix and match of previous plates, cutlery (they lose those) and glasses (wine glasses and my glencairns are their favourite to break). -
My wife used to care but not anymore. I now wai whoever I want to and no one seems offended, embarrassed or confused. One day I may wai a person, the next day not, but they understand I mean well either way. I have however stopped giving a wai to very old people as I never seem to get a wai in return, not even a smile, just a look of disdain. They now just get a nod of the head with a feigned smile.

Anutin warns of prison terms for fake vax certificates
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It doesn't though does it. It just show people become immune to empty threats. Regarding your last point I think you need to seek help or move to North Korea. -
Taxi driver charged with negligence in death of Swiss tourist in Phuket
alien365 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
From a poster yesterday: "The Swiss “tourist” actually lives in Thailand and is well known locally as a keen cyclist. The taxi (according to the yellow taxi identification sticker on the side) apparently went too fast over the crest of a hill, lost control as a result of water on the road coming from a washing machine station by the roadside, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and simply smashed into the oncoming motorbike.." So it looks like he'll blame the water on the road still rather than his inexcusable driving.
