  1. During covid when people stayed home the fuel prices were nearly half what they are now. If everyone goes electric I expect the same to happen with reduced demand. Regarding electric prices, my point was relating to further taxation. If the gvt loses tax income from petrol, where do you think they will make up the shortfall?
  2. I got an email from them this morning. We'll approach it like many here, by ignoring it. If Netflix continue we'll just cancel our subscription. The only reason we've kept using it is for the Korean series that are sometimes decent. The western material just annoys us now on there.
  3. 31% is lower than I expected. I already made the decision 6 months ago to buy a new diesel, so I won't be buying another car for at least 10 years. I'll reassess the situation then. My main concern from all these electric vehicles is that electricity prices will go through the roof as the government increase tax, making up for the loss of tax collection from fuel. My electric bill at home is already way too expensive over the last couple of months in comparison to previous years.
  4. Probably my night walk up a stream in Doi Phu Kha, Nan. Had to be incredibly careful climbing over and under things as the snakes and other wildlife were everywhere. The tiny vipers and itchy caterpillars were hardest to spot. The huge leeches in the water, not so. We also had a moment when we entered an injured bear's territory (another day) half way up the mountain. Our ranger told us they often attack if injured. That was more scary than exciting though. I don't think we'd stand much chance with only sticks, especially on the steep slopes.
  5. It's definitely a better place since the renovations a couple of years ago. The overcrowding downstairs and in the carpark was ridiculous before. Now it's just the carpark that's bad.
  6. More vehicles are registered as more Chinese vehicles enter the market. I don't have anything against electric vehicles in general, but I'll let others be the Guinea pigs for now. Everything is great new, but what are they like down the line? I'll stick with my diesel for now.
  7. This is one of the reasons I bought a pick up truck. That stuff stinks and the family buy it often during the season.
  8. We were not looking forwards to the bill coming through as last month's was 3,200 baht. This month, even though we have used the aircon a lot more, our bill only went up to 3,800. Considering the headlines on tv and social media, I'm very happy with that bill. I was expecting over 5k.
  9. Should the lady not be claiming her medical expenses through her own insurance, then the insurer goes after him? Or does it not work like that here? Genuine question as I don't know.
  10. Did you drive on one of the busiest days of the year or was that during the period itself? I've found the roads to the west/south of bkk a lot nicer to drive over Songkran, but I did not travel on the busiest days (I've done 800km since the mass exodus started and got my best fuel economy of the year). I also wonder why having no police on the road makes the RTP disgraceful in the eyes of tourists. Most tourists would have been partying, shopping, or chilling on a beach somewhere. I personally think there are too many uniforms around when I want to relax at tourist holiday destinations here.
  11. Out of how many? That would help me decide how realistic the target is.
  12. Don't you mean per week? At just over £200 per week the UK pension would be about 37.5k per month compared to ฿600.
  13. In my opinion it depends on the history and who's been involved. If the locals have submitted official complaints about it and nothing has been done then there is a possibility of recompense. That being said, if it was a local who slipped knowing that it was dangerous, they are partly responsible. If it was a tourist who knew nothing, they should in theory have a better chance of claiming.
  14. Considering how young they start, a nice little highway code book taught in schools would make sense to me. Once the road is complete though, I will hate going to the Nakhon Pathom transport office even more. It's immediately after the exit road of it, making it incredibly dangerous to enter from the current Malainman Road. TIT.
  15. I got an email yesterday (Sunday) saying it is due tomorrow. I feel that's a bit short for a notification. Will give it a go today and see if it will be accepted or not.
  16. I mainly go there to see the elephants in their natural habitat. The landscape and search reminds me of Jurrasic Park. I don't really know of anything else to do in the area though, so just drove back to Sam Roi Yot
  17. If he was spending his own money and not taking jobs from others I think they'd be the same.
  18. For everything apart from this, yes. We all have weaknesses. I am as considerate as possible on the road which is why it angers me when I come across selfish drivers like this. They hold the entire flow of traffic up. If a car's going faster than me I let them past. I don't understand why others can't follow that basic principle.
  19. I wonder how many right lane hoggers these guys had faced in the day before this incident. I feel like doing the same sometimes having to pass over a hundred of these people every time I go on a longer journey.
  20. Not so easy when many of these right lane hoggers decide to travel the same speed as the car/truck to the left of them creating a lot of angry drivers like me behind.
  21. Each to their own. I think my ideal massage is more to help relax the mind rather than the body. I hate masseuses drilling holes in my feet and dislocating my fingers and toes. I also don't get the pleasure pain that some others do from a strong massage.
  22. The younger and prettier, the better for a 2 hr oil massage. I don't really want someone old enough to be my mum massaging me. A beautiful lady gently massaging me helps destress way more than a punishing properly done Thai massage.
  23. Any thoughts on the period pain leave for women? I can't help feel they're taking the mickey at this point. If they want to be treated equally in the workplace, having a few days holiday per month for a stomach ache is absurd to me. Take a paracetamol or something, like they would do at home anyway and get on with it.
  24. I've never been a dog person, but I've accepted them more since living here, mostly because I feel sorry for them. Most actual Soi dogs appear scared of people in my area. They do get more aggressive though at night or early morning when it's cooler. The Soi dogs that some consider pets are the most dangerous if you ask me as they are more likely to attack others on the street to please their owners. The ones with no attachment I feel are just happy to be recognised.
