New Year alcohol controls - no selling up to 2 am outside special areas
sandyf replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thanks, but I didn't mean out and about in Pattaya. There are many places in Thailand that you will struggle to sit down for a beer in the afternoon, or have any lights on after 10pm. -
Of course there was. The original EU Referendum Bill 2013-14 was killed off in early 2014, a fairly obvious move as it conflicted with DC's promises to Scotland. A new Bill was then brought back to the House in 2015 after the Scottish vote.
-
How on earth could it have been a strong point when it wasn't official. When it was mentioned it was dismissed as rumours. But you are right to a certain point there was a failing in the leadership rather than the government. Many that voted No were voting against Alex Salmond rather than the idea of independence.
-
But a common issue. In 2014 David Cameron misled the people of Scotland in that he promised Scotland would have a greater say in dealings with the EU while at the same time already secretly planning a referendum on leaving the EU. The fallout from that referendum has reinforced the argument for Scotland to vote again. Westminster do not want to acknowledge the failings surrounding the 2014 vote and are using out of context personal quotes to try and deny revisiting the issue. They have no moral argument for this course of action and sooner or later it will be held again. If Brexit had gone the other way it is unlikely there would be the same strength of feeling over another vote so the problem for Westminster is effectively self inflicted through mismanagment of both referendums.

You need to get out and about a bit more. -
Views taken on self determination cannot be confined to one particular entity, to do so amounts to discrimination. History has proven the Wesminster stance on self determination changes to suit the agenda at the time. Discrimination is a way of life in the UK with several laws having been introduced to try and stop it, you are of course free to feel what you want.

You have made a response against a quote made by someone else, a breach of the rules.

The point is I was always under the impression that there were laws, whether they were followed or not. -

For years since 1972, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act, which was passed to prevent civil servants from having afternoon drinks, has only allowed alcohol sales to be made from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to midnight. https://asiawinenews.com/2022/07/thailand-to-end-50-year-alcohol-ban-from-july/ -
You obviously do not agree with independence so a closet unionist then - your words I believe. "So, when have the Scottish Parliament decided to have the next referendum? Oh. Hang on a minute. They can't. There really is no point in trying to argue about it. Scotland did not (could not) vote on remaining in the EU. They didn't have an independent vote. Scottish Parliament cannot lawfully hold a referendum as and when they please. Scotland do not have a fully independent Parliament, if they did they wouldn't keep complaining about Westminster. They don't have their own currency. They don't have an independent legal system. If it were up to me I would give Scotland independence. No ifs or buts. Just leave. No money, no support, no pensions, no funding. I doubt, however, the Scottish would vote for that."

The standard alcohol hours, 11am - 2pm and 5pm - Midnight have been that way for 50 years so nothing new there. For some years there has been special areas that got an exemption in the afternoon and an extension until 2am, which all came to an end with covid. It was a slow process getting back to the standard hours and even slower for anything else. For many years in the lead up to a major holiday there has been an attempt to get the hours altered and invariably it gets knocked back, so with monotonous regularity we end up with a thread like this. -
So tell us what happens to "Belfast" in a 7 year interval? The government decided 7 years was an appropriate interval regarding another referendum on self determination. Obviously you feel that interval was only appropriate for NI and not Scotland, which would in fact make it discrimination.
-
This is a fundamental problem among unionists, the perception that the right to self determination was taken away in 2014. You would have plenty to say if were never allowed to reconsider a decision, just think of the savings in closing the divorce courts.

Nothing odd about it. The people who work there are immigration police who's job it is to maintain the Immigration Act. Whatever anyone thinks it all means the act has specified that any Non-Thai entering the country is an "immigrant". "Alien" means any person who is not of Thai nationality under the nationality Act. "Immigrant" means any alien who enters the Kingdom. https://library.siam-legal.com/thai-law/thai-immigration-act-definition-sections-1-5/

Since when was self determination attached to any particular country?
-
You are wrong, Scotland can be described as an independent country. What it is not is an independent sovereign state. It really is the height of hypocrisy. In 2009 the Westminster government went to court in support of the Kosovo UDI claiming that every country had the right to self determination, but it would appear that does not apply to countries under Westminster rule.
-
You would have to quote the text from the Referendum Bill that makes that a fact. Of course you can't as Westminster didn't think it through and specify an interval. Westminster set a precedent in the Belfast Agreement of 7 years between referendums on self determination so there is no moral argument against another taking place in Scotland.

The only thing that is simple are those that believe in "simple majority", it is now time to believe in reality. Mr Springford, author of the study, added: “There is a gap between the things politicians want to say about Brexit and what the data tells us. I think it’s become impossible to argue that Brexit has not hurt the UK economy.” https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-cost-uk-gdp-economy-failure-b2246610.html?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=IND_Morning_Headlines 21-12-2022&utm_term=IND_Headlines_Masterlist_CDP
