  1. How many extra days will they get if the number of applicants reduce and use other means to remain in Thailand. One day up and 2 days down. An increase in extensions would offset the loss of visa revenue.
  2. Garbage. I get it every year and cost around 340 baht. Boots in the UK charge £8, not much difference. Of course they are ripping you off as it can be free on the NHS. It doesn't matter where you live on the planet, if you volunteer to be ripped off, you will be.
  3. An irrelevant and distorted generalisation. In fact the NHS is free to a large percentage of the population, children and those that have never worked do not contribute to general taxation. As far as expats are concerned, having made the payment in earlier years, treatment can be available at no additional cost. A national insurance record is effectively money in the bank and under certain circumstances can be used towards health care in other countries.
  4. Quite, medical bills only become a problem if you are not ready to switch the lights out.
  5. Obviously context is an alien concept.
  6. "They" being the locals, the Thai government will collect revenue from wherever and whatever application is made.
  7. Yes you were wrong, you changed the context to the concerns of someone else. Your words or not. "Furthermore...my response was to the statement that the poster was concerned Thailand would start taxing money already here in the bank. They already do. "
  8. No that is not the case. The message posted by the OP originated from what would appear to be Microsoft security, and that would only happen in respect of a MS account. Microsoft accounts require an alternative contact email address and security messages are sent to that email in case the main account has been hacked. If the OP has no MS account then the message has to have come from a bogus source.
  9. And some us never had a pension or health cover from employer in the first place.
  10. Nothing to do with gmail, message refers to suspicious activity on an MS account. Genuine security messages from MS would go to the alternative contact address.
  11. What you haven't said is if you have a MS account or not.
  12. It is down to the quality of the wood these days. My sister in law has just had her kitchen re-furbished and the walls on that were wood slats. The builder put blocks to waist height and Shera type fence slats on the upper part. The wood that was removed was the worse for wear, much of it warped and cracked and a bit of insect damage. Not that surprising having been exposed to the elements for around 60 years.
  13. Your last statement is incorrect, they do not tax "money already here in the bank", they only tax interest that has been "earned". It is a common practice in other countries to apply withholding tax where tax residency is in doubt. As already pointed out you are free to file a tax return and claim any over payment back. I had to verify my tax residency before I could open an interest bearing account with Wise, maybe you would prefer that arrangement.
  14. Why does lazy and incompetent come into it. I am a UK tax resident and the revenue dept say there is no requirement to file a return unless I need to, or are you saying every revenue dept is lazy and incompetent. The whole issue has been blown out of proportion by those that would look to profit from selling services to those that are unaware they do not need such services.
  15. CPI baskets mean very little at a personal level. Late 70s in the UK inflation touched 18% with interest rates around 10%, tough at the time with little government support but we weathered the storm.
  16. You need to bear in mind what you are applying for. An extension application is done at immigration in Thailand and requires funds in a Thai bank. A visa application is done outside Thailand and the funds can be in any appropriate facility.
  17. The reality is it depends on what you want to purchase. People's perspective on inflation will be influenced by their personal circumstances so there is no straightforward answer.
  18. Indeed. The number allocated is from the Thai registration system which includes foreigners. I used mine to register at the hospital and when covid came along the hospital registered me on the vaccine app as soon as it was available.
  19. I was in the UK this time last year and there were notices all over the place saying passport renewal was in excess of 10 weeks, but not seen any so far this year. With UK holiday makers leaving things to the last moment, renewal time can be seasonal and this is the worst season. The general election may well reduce the risk of them going on strike.
  20. I shipped my stuff over and used Asian Tigers and service very good, they use White's as UK agent. It was back in 2009 so things may have changed a bit since then. A friend of mine also did it about the same but he did it in his wife's name as there was no tax on used personal items for a Thai national returning to Thailand. He had to pay tax on a motorbike, fairly obvious it wasn't a joint asset. Are you sure you have interpreted what you read correctly? I didn't bother with the marine insurance as the premium was quite significant. Many will say better to buy in Thailand but it is a personal decision based on what you have, it is all about quality and like for like can be quite expensive in Thailand.
  21. At the moment I think it is only 25 or 26 countries on the E-visa platform. Only 2 in Asia, China and South Korea.
  22. Obviously you are not old enough to be aware chip & pin was introduced in the UK around 2003 and fully implemented by 2006, due to public reluctance and paranoia the US was 9 years behind the UK.
  23. Only a certain mentality would consider I made the post without first hand experience.
  24. Thailand offers visa free access to many foreign nationals, how many western countries offer visa free access to Thais.
