  1. Why not distort the context, par for the course on here. Net migration is the difference between emigration and legal migration. Apologies if you found that a bit difficult.
  2. Apologies, obviously over your head.
  3. First time I went to Vietnam in 2005 I wouldn't have been able to cross the road if not for my wife. She had been working there for a couple of years and would just walk out, motorbikes parted like the Red Sea, no cars in those days to worry about.
  4. Indeed, and net migration has 2 sides. The number of UK nationals emigrating is now less than half of what it was 20 years ago, only 92K last year. The government is so narrow minded they only look at one side, a lot more could be done in boosting emigration which would bring down the net migration. Frozen pensions would be a good start.
  5. A distorted way of looking at it. The true comparison would be the ratio above and below £18,600 in 2012 compared the same ration for £29,000 in 2024. The revised figure is directly related to UK inflation so anyone who was above in 2012 is likely to be above next year. The real injustice here is that pensioners, unlike those who work, have no control over their income and become disadvantaged in any legislation that relates to earnings. Frozen pensions don't come into it as if you did apply for spouse visa it woud be based on the pension received when in the UK.
  6. Very true, But what is your point. Do you think it is better to look for obscure options to protect an extension, as we had someone do recently, rather than get a new visa?
  7. If an office requires something such as a TM30 after leaving the country, wouldn't that be the same if you entered with a re-entry permit or new visa? My point addressed the difference between trying to protect an extension or getting a new visa, not differences between offices.
  8. For any 2 situations if one is said to be negative it can be taken that the other is positive.
  9. Quite. many seem to think they are entitled to be here and want to be seen as immigrants, despite the Non Immigrant visa status. This is reinforced to a certain extent by governments like the UK who say if you take extended holidays in Thailand you are no longer a UK resident and not entitled to a full pension. Begs the question if non immigrant in Thailand how can you have emigrated?
  10. Many have forgotton, or never knew, the law was introduced by Theresa May in 2012 and the chances are if it didn't affect you then unlikely it will affect you now. It hasn't been put on hold, the threshold figure has been amended down to just under £30K, think it is now £29,600.
  11. I have been here since 2008 and had a multitude of visas and extensions, marriage and retirement. Both last Oct and This Oct have returned to Thailand on new e-visa, just used the funds in my Thai account.
  12. What do you mean "now", been that way for many since 2012. Those that were not affected by the introduction of the income threshold then were probably on occupational pension and unlikely to be affected by the proposed increase. As the poster implied, Brits returning would be immediately on full pension, free healthcare and any applicable social security. Maybe not the lifestyle they hoped for but it is an alternative.
  13. What do you mean by "highway" There are no "highways" in the UK, only motorways and roads and it is not illegal to walk across roads. The 331 runs from Korat to Sattahip and designated as AH19 indicating it is part of the Asian Highway network but that is a route number rather than an indication of the road status, unlike Expressways and Motorways which are toll Highways. I have travelled it many times, particularly the northern section and pedestrians are far from unusual. In some parts the carriageways are 4 lanes making it extremely dangerous to cross.
  14. I think you are a little bit mixed up between a one year multi entry e-visa which may or may not be available on the e-visa website and a one year extension to a single entry 90 day e-visa. The extension would be obtained from immigration once in Thailand, not beforehand. As far as the e-visa is concerned, it would be £1000 for the single entry visa and £10,000 for a multi entry visa but there have been reports that the ME option has been withdrawn. Once in Thailand with the SE visa you would have 90 days to sort out your bank account and apply for a 12 month extension of your visa status, this is where the 400K THB comes into play. The number of days you would put on the e-visa application should be 90 as this would be the number of days allowed in Thailand under a Non O visa, even if it was multi entry as you would be required to leave the country after each 90 days of stay.
  15. This is the crux of it and pursuing "your personal circumstances" appears to me a distinct difference between married and unmarried. In view of the current climate in the UK it wouldn't be out of the question for a tightening up as you suggested on visitor visa applications.
  16. Quite poor reporting, the accident was about 20km NE of Pattaya. The 331 is a very fast road and at around 6 in the morning the light would not have been good. The monk has probably done it for years on end and his luck just run out. RIP.
  17. When VFS started doing UK passports in 2014 this guidance document was in place at the time. You can see on page 3 Table A that name and address evidence was required. At the time the intention was that passports would be returned to your home address. That never materialised and passports had to be collected . The current guidance only states that they may check where you live so up to you what you provide, but there is always that risk that VFS staff may want to follow previous requirements. If it is not a problem nothing wrong with being prepared. OS_Guidance_Gp2_11.13.PDF
  18. I have been doing my wife's applications for many years and never paid for any VFS service. My wife pays for the return of passport when attending the interview.
  19. Quite. The pensions increases this year would have brought my uprated pension to a level just over the current threshold, opening the door if necessary to a spouse visa. Looks like the door has been slammed shut and locked.
  20. The law was introduced by Theresa may in 2012. It was set at a level, £18,600 , so it would remove the ability to claim benefits. The government had no embarrassment in effectively telling those on a state pension they needed to be claiming benefits. Fast forward to 2023 and selective Tory memory prevails and in the failing fight against "illegals" family members of British citizens have now become a target. And this forum thinks they are hard done by.
  21. And up about 100% on 2009. Very few balls that are not curved.
  22. In my hospital the "appropriate "government approved" multiplier for foreigners." is one.
  23. It depends on entitlement from their social. My wife's BIL was entitled to a 2 bed room but they paid for a single bed which was much as you describe. His wife stayed most of the time but they did pay for a nurse when she needed to leave.
  24. Easy wasn't the point, all about the urban myth that if you don't have a re-entry permit you have "to start all over". Nov 22 I did a marriage extension on a new visa and yesterday did a marriage extension on a new visa and new passport, neither were much different to doing a renewal. It is not a Holy Grail and more about circumstances and how much remaining time on an extension there is to "protect". In previous years I let some months on my extension expire while away to move the renewal date from the summer months to the winter. The office is a bit irrelevant but you are perfectly free to move to Sri Ratcha and check it out for yourself. Failing that you could use an agent and then complain when challenged.
  25. Statements like that highlight the ignorance surrounding travel insurance. Countries like the EU can implement such a policy for short term visas, Thailand however would have to restructure the visa arrangements before considering such a move.
